Scene Fourteen

The repairs don't take long, and before too many sixty tick intervals, my captain is back in his cockpit, and crew and passengers alike are being released from the medic bay.

Nicholas drops down into his special chair with great fanfare. "I don't know about you guys, but I'm ready to leave this scrap of rock behind."

Reverend Shipping seems more melancholy as he straps himself in. What he's thinking about leaving the place that murdered his wife after years of giving himself to helping it, he does not utter.

I really need to establish those telepathic connections for times like these.

But, perhaps, I don't need it for now. Because, once upon a time, Orion was fleeing a moon he was once such a part of in grief and shame and pain, heartbroken over a woman, hated by a people he loved, and burdened with a broken boy who only wanted security.

Only, for Orion, he was the broken boy.

I turn to analyze my captain, smoothly taking the ship into lift-off. Humans really are such a resilient species, to feel so deeply and then to lose so much, only to keep living, one day at a time.

"Next stop," Orion calls, "the Asteroid belt."

The very place that was his first stop after fleeing Ganymede. And I realize, it's not just me who has realized that Orion and Reverend Shipping share so much in common. He has, too.

And that is the true reason Orion came back to the moon he fled.

Because humans heal in such dangerous ways.
