What type of graphics do you make and which is your favorite?
Seems fantasy type covers are ones I sway to by default- even when I don't mean it. Oops. But I do like making them because they allow for creativity. But, since I am fairly new to graphic design, I do not have a favorite yet. I try my hand in everything. Though, I do like making those trippy/modern art affects like glitches/3D and etc.!
How long have you been designing graphics?
I got Photoshop CS6 in late December. So, it has been about six months! Though, I haven't been on much as much as I would have liked haha. I rarely get on, but I would love to get more practice!
How did you start?
Now this is a story and not a pretty one at that hahaha.
Let's see. I will have to take you guys back to 2013, when I discovered graphic art on the Wattpad forums. Before then, I had NO idea that there was such a thing. I was a sheltered child, but they looked like magic and I thought that maybe I could try and make my own cover! I got inspired to do so because when I asked for an 'orange cover' I received an orange- the fruit, in the background, with two of my characters in front. I thought it was hilarious, but it was not what I was looking for. Actually, that wasn't my main inspiration haha. My main inspiration was @RachelS8766. I had a friend on Wattpad that requested covers from her often, and I was at awe every single time with every single cover. They were amazing, and I died to know how they were made. I tried a few times on PicMonkey, but those images were so terrible. Let us forget about it. I'm going to repress, live in my ignorance, and refuse to remember that time haha. After that, hadn't picked up photo altering of any sort until this December, where I had the proper tools and most AMAZING support. A lot of thanks to Rachel and Jenna <3. From there, I just learn and absorb everything I can from the masters and look up some cool techniques on YouTube!
What is your favorite part about graphic design?
Honestly, the whole process is addictive, but my favorite part is when I have all the pictures cut and positioned before I add any effects. I love looking at that mid-way point and imagining all that I can do with the lighting, blending, brushing and etc. To me, that is the most magical point because your imagination runs wild and you can let it run wild.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I get my inspiration from friends. They are goddesses. Sometimes, it can be a song. Other times, it can be a single stock I found that gave me an idea. Some day, it can be a movie. Pinterest is also a good source of inspiration. As you can tell, I have a wide variety of inspo I draw from haha.
How long do graphics typically take you?
Oh no, do I have to answer that *blushes, chuckles, and slips slowly underneath table in embarrassment*? I don't know haha. I am really new to this and the time varies. A few weeks ago, it took me about 5 hours for one. But last week it took me 3. Hopefully, it is a sign that I am approving, but I would love to get the shortcuts down faster haha!
What advice would you give aspiring designers?
Hmmmm XD. Well. I have not been out in this field for long, so I don't feel that I am worthy to share my advice haha. But, I will share what I have gone through so far so in hopes that it will encourage people who want to start! If you have tried on PicMonkey or any other site, do not let that determine your potential talent! If you always wanted to try, try it! The opportunity may take a while to come, but take it once it presents yourself and do not be afraid. Do not be overly critical of your beginning work either. Start designing and practicing out of your love and passion for the art, and do not let other people deter you. There will always be great designers out there, but as long as you do one hundred percent of what you want to do then you will eventually get there! There will be people that will undermine you too, but just design because you want to! Art is always a progress where you better yourself, discover new things, and fall in love with graphic designing over and over again- no matter how many times you want to head bang your laptop xD.
A fun fact about yourself:
Fencing is my go to sport, and I have been fencing for eight years now! I have attended a few competitions, but for me it is more of a hobby! And I know it says a fun fact (singular case, I have noted), but I will not be true to myself if I do not mention my addiction: memes. Hmu with those dank memes, fam, ye? Only the freshest.
