What type of graphics do you make, and which type is your favorite?
Since I’ve been on Wattpad, I mostly make covers. However, whenever I was on graphic forums (this is when I first started), I was making a lot of signatures (they’re like 500x200px banners) and blends (they are the 500x500 or 800x800 chapter images/banners). My favorite, however, are fanfiction start banners (600/650x200) and I really miss making those. It’s super fine to try and make graphics that are stretched more horizontally than vertically!
How long have you been designing graphics?
I started when I was about fifteen or fourteen, so around four to five years!
How did you start?
I use to write 1D fan fics (note: I re-read some of my stories and puked a little in my mouth. Seriously. Why did I ever do that) and I really loved the story banners and I wanted one for myself however, I hate asking people for help or for anything in general (when I work in a team project I generally do everything myself; it’s really bad). So, I downloaded the free CS2 that Adobe offered and began making stuff. They were awful, and what’s hysterical is that I used to think I was the bee’s knees.
What is your favorite part about graphic design?
The fact that you can take so many images that you would presumably think don’t go well together and make them into one cohesive and beautiful picture. I especially love when I first start making the graphic and I only have my model (literally hardcutting the model is my daily struggle) and I already know that that’s the hardest part so I just get on dA and test out everything and it’s just a nice process. A lot of times, you don’t realize how you created something, or how you thought this-and-that will go well together, and when it does, it feels really nice!
Where do you get your inspiration?
Other designers. A lot of times, I will go through people’s graphic books, or I’ll get on TDA (The Dark Arts) and go through galleries and just see the amazing designs by everyone. Or, if I’m feeling lazy, I’ll put on some Logic of Gambino and just make something; they’re not inspiring, but they make me feel soulful and creative!
How long does a graphic typically take you?
A good one? 4-10 hours. A quick one? 1-3 hours.
What advice would you give aspiring designers?
Do. Not. Give. Up. Always try and try and try again. Always take your time when you make something. A lot of times we just want to see the end product and that’s it. But don’t do that! Don’t rush yourself and always look for improvement. Accept criticism; it hurts, especially when you think your graphic is amazing, but I swear it makes you better! And once again: patience, practice, perseverance.
A fun fact about yourself:
I do slam poetry and won first place in a Texas Showdown for MSA (which, btw, doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it was).
