6: Merritt by Claire

Dear almostgabrielle

We are extremely sorry we published this interview so late. It was lost in a mist of deliveries we thought we had published.

Hi! I'm Claire, I'll be your interviewer today, How are you doing?

I'm doing well, how are you?

I am all fine, doing my jobs as well, thank you for asking, thank you for being my 3rd client for the interview, I hope that we'll get all along as well, Mallorie.

As of now, I noticed in your Wattpad profile that you had 105 followers, I followed you just now so that you can achieve a good amount of followers, let me ask now, what's the concept behind your Wattpad username, and why is it's @Merritt_Coolness?

Well, I wanted to find a creative name for my profile, nothing too complicated. And "Merritt" is my last name, so I wanted to have some part of my name in there to make it a bit more interesting.

That's good to know, I noticed too in your bio that you loved Harry Potter Fandom, what makes you admire it?

Because of the storyline. it's full of magic and amazing plot twists. plus the movies/books can capture your heart in a heartbeat.

I see, well I'm not much of a potter fan anyways since I'm more of a different approach, like gaming and vice, still it's great to know that about you.

Let's focus on your writing world, what inspired you to write your stories and what motivated you to complete them?

Well, ever since I was little, I've always been motivated and inspired to write. my current book, Stardust, is kinda based on my own experiences at Disney World (aka the Most Magical Place on Earth). but obviously, some of the stuff came from my own imagination.

That seems to be wonderful! Disney though to be honest was the first childhood fandom that I liked too, I watched many of those shows when I was a young kid.

I noticed in your profile that you had 3 stories that have many reads, maybe in hundreds. But let's not count the face claim one since maybe it's not a story.

I was getting curious too when I checked some of your 2 works, Just Another Borden, and Unexpected Adventure, what was your concept behind that two stories before you write them?

Well, I'm a big fan of paranormal investigations (but not horror movies). you never know what's going to happen when it comes to the paranormal. and the unexpected adventure is also from my favorite childhood of mine, muppet treasure island. one of my lower school teachers introduced that movie to me in second grade, and I've loved it ever since. plus, the music is just so catchy!

I see that's good to know.

Out of all the characters you have created, who is your favorite and worst character, and please explain why?

hmm, that's a hard one! my favorite character has to be Jackson Mavericks (from Stardust). he's so sarcastic to the point where it's funny. I don't think I have a least favorite, I like all of my characters!

That's great to know from you, I think you loved all of the characters you had created.

What are your favorite genres to write and read and please explain why?

Probably fantasy. you can make up your own characters, decide if they should have powers or not, and you can start creating your own worlds and put them on paper!

Seems interesting, honestly though I loved fanfiction with mixed plots, as long as you know the fandom.

Are there any deleted or changed chapters from a completed book that you could share?

None that I can think of at the moment. but when I do, I'll let you know 🙂!

I understand.

Out of all the books you have written, which one is your favorite?

Probably Stardust. I've been working on that book for a really long time, and i like the character developments in all of my characters!

Did you ever expect your work, Just Another Borden, High Queen Eleanor the selfless and Unexpected Adventure to reach 150, 50, and 50 reads with many votes sooner?

No, not really. I didn't even expect to reach 50+ reads!

I see, maybe sooner it will, patience is worth for good rewards sooner.

If you wrote an alternate plot for your book, Just Another Borden, what would happen?

idk. . . . I guess that I'll have to think about that while I come up with the next plot for book 2 🙂!

I see, I wish you good luck with it.

Have you already placed Just Another Borden or some of your works in any contests or review shops? If so, what place do you earn, or what did you had learned from the review?

I haven't put my book in any contests yet. but maybe i will in the future!

I see, once again, I hope that your stories will achieve such good benefits sooner.

Tell me about your writing journey and how it has progressed?

well, I've been writing since second grade and haven't stopped writing. and I feel like my writing has gotten better and better each time I write, after so many years of practice. it's worth it if you have the patience!

I see that's good to know.

In the case of writing your works, what's the mood of your writing space and how do you do your research?

I usually sit in the same chair that I sit in every time I write. it's very quiet 99.5% of the time. I do my research whenever I need to get some ideas, which isn't very often.

I see, maybe taking a bit of research would help for your work, I usually do that mostly for the time when I didn't know what something, mostly an object or term was called, or maybe hunting for character names and designs.

If you ever felt it hard to continue, did you ever feel like giving up writing?

Sometimes, yeah. there were just some days when I feel like I'll never be able to finish something. there are other days where I'm like, "I know what i'm doing. i can finish this". if you ever feel like giving up, don't. keep working hard, and you'll not regret it.

That's good to know, as others like me had believed though in writing, once you made this, you must accomplish it, there's no turning back.

Amen! I've been working on the same book (stardust) for five years! it's a slow process, but it's definitely coming along!

What are your hobbies or interests outside of writing?

Outside my interests in writing, I like to listen to music. I sing in my church choir whenever I get the chance, and I enjoy reading. that's another way to get me inspired to do my writing.

Oh, I see!

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors?

Yea, I do! j.k. rowling, Brandon mull, j.r.r. Tolkien, George MacDonald, and ridley person.

Wait, I mean, what's your advice for those people who wished to become a great writer like you?

Oh, wait! I read that wrong! my bad! Another piece of advice that I have for writers is to not give up. keep working, and everything will come together.

I seriously thought you asked me which writers aspire to me, lol!

It's okay, I hereby end our interview here, thank you for your time, Mallorie, I truly wish you the best and so, thank you very much for being my client for the job.

And thank you for interviewing me (even tho I misread that one thing towards the end, lol)! it was fun!

Same for you, it's okay though, we all do mistakes, even if I could be it.
