【SEASON 6 EPISODE 14: PART TWO】
Jules needed a distraction for the last five minutes of panicking she was set to do before her fight with Zara. She couldn't just stand at the edge of the mat and watch as the audience piled in anymore. It was actually making me sick to her stomach.
So when Eli asked Jules if she wanted to go to the snack shop with her so he could buy himself and Demetri some nachos and soda, she just couldn't decline.
She sighed as she nervously bounced on her toes in line. The people in front of them in line just finished ordering and walked out of the line, making her and Eli move up.
Eli chuckled at Julianna's nervousness. He looked down at her with a small smile as he watched her trill her lips. "It's all gonna be okay. You just need to breathe and calm down." He reassured, turning to face the man behind the counter just as Jules snapped her head over to look up at him. "Hey, a nachos and two Dr. Peppers?"
Julianna stared at Eli like he had three heads, her eyes as wide as saucers. "Calm down?! Do you know who you're dating?" Jules spewed out in a hushed whisper.
Eli chuckled at the question, looking down at Jules as the worker behind the counter got his nachos and drinks. "Yes, I've been dating her for over a year now and I was friends with her for a decade before that." Eli said in a teasing tone to try and get his girlfriends mind off the fight.
His eyes moved to the worker and saw him adding cheese to the nachos. Eli turned his attention back to Jules and turned to face her completely. His head dipped a little so it was closer to hers and his hand gently grabbed the edge of her chin, making her meet halfway until their noses were touching.
"You're not giving yourself credit for how good you are. You can take Zara—you have taken her down!" Eli cheered, his eyebrows raising and a small laugh passing through his lips.
Jules didn't respond––only gulping at Eli's words as the anxiety in her stomach continued to churn. She felt a little sick from how nervous she was, but when a voice called her name, she was pulled out of her thoughts, her and Eli turning to look at who called her name.
Around twenty feet away was Bert and Anthony, the two younger boys having big smiles on their faces and posters in their hands. They raised their posters up and Jules giggled at their signs. Anthony held up a green sign with "JULES RULES" written in big, blue bubble letters while Bert held a yellow sign that had a cartoon image of a jewel with "OF THE VALLEY" next to it.
Eli smiled at not only the signs, but Julianna's reaction to them. Keeping his eyes on Bert and Anthony, Eli leaned toward Julianna's ear and pointed to the two boys. "Plus, you've got the whole valley on your side." He whispered.
From across the room, Bert lowered his sign and gave Jules a thumbs up. "You're gonna kill it!" He yelled before he and Anthony walked into the arena to find seats.
Jules watched the boys until she couldn't see them anymore. She let out a small sigh, shaking her head as she looked back up to Eli. "That boy is like a son to me. I'm gonna miss him so much." She whispered, frowning a little at the thought of not seeing Bert as much anymore.
The worker finally came back with Eli's nachos and two Dr. Peppers. Eli quickly paid the man, handing Jules one of the Dr. Peppers as a silent way to ask her to hold it while he grabbed the other drink and the nachos. He turned to look at Jules just as she unashamedly took a sip of his soda.
Eli laughed, nodding his head to the entrance of the arena. "Okay, we've gotta go. I've gotta get a front row seat with Lex and Demetri." He told her and Jules nodded, still taking a sip of her soda.
When they reached Demetri and Lexi in the front row, Eli handed Demetri his soda and the nachos to hold so he could give Jules one last good luck kiss and some words of motivation.
Lexi stood right beside Demetri, who was sitting down. She gushed at Carmen holding a sleeping Laura in her arms. Lexi clasped her hands together and rested them under her chin as she smiled down at the baby.
"Hello, angel." Lexi whispered in a slight baby voice even though the baby was asleep and couldn't hear her.
Carmen chuckled at Lexi's excitement seeing Laura and her eyebrows raised. "Do you want to hold her during the match?" She asked Lexi, sitting up straighter and holding Laura out to Lexi.
Even though he wasn't in the conversation, Demetri leaned in, shaking his head. "I don't think that's a good ide–"
"I'd love to." Lexi interrupted, leaning down and carefully taking Laura out of Carmen's arms.
Demetri sighed, looking up at Eli standing in front of him, watching Jules walk toward her dad and Miguel at the edge of the mat. "Oh, there we go." He muttered, making Eli turn back around to see what he was talking about.
Eli laughed seeing Lexi holding Laura and finally sitting down next to Demetri. Ever since Laura was born, Lexi would come over constantly to see the baby. Sometimes it would be on her own, sometimes she'd drag Demetri or Joey, and sometimes she'd come over during Eli and Julianna's to see the baby.
"I have a little baby." Lexi sang happily under her breath, turning to Demetri and Eli, who was finally sitting down on the other side of Demetri. She maneuvered around to let the boys see Laura in her arms and neither boys could hide their smiles looking down at the baby.
Lexi looked around the arena as Demetri and Eli whispered to Laura. Her eyes landed on Zara walking into the arena with the rest of Iron Dragons trailing behind her.
Lexi grimaced, the corners of her lips twisting down into a frown. "Ew..." She muttered, making Demetri's head snap up, his eyes wide.
"That was a complete switch. Do you want me to hold her?" Demetri asked, not realizing Lexi was talking about Zara and not Laura.
Lexi turned back to her boyfriend, her eyebrows furrowed. "What?" She asked before she looked down at Laura in her arms and realized Demetri thought she was talking about the baby. She looked back up to Demetri and shook her head. "No. I'm not saying ew to Laura. Look what just walked in." Lexi muttered, nodding her head to the area of the room Zara just walked in.
And from across the arena, Julianna's jaw clenched at the sight of Zara. The girl made sure to stand directly across the mat from Jules and she had a big performative smirk on her face that Jules just wanted to punch off her face.
Johnny noticed the way Jules tensed the second Zara and the Iron Dragons walked in and keeping his eyes on the opposing team, specifically Sensei Wolf, Johnny leaned toward his daughters ear. "Hey, ignore her bullshit. Just keep your head in the game." He whispered.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the girls' final match will begin momentarily." Gunther's voice echoed over the loudspeakers, making both Lawrence's look away from the Iron Dragons and up to the speakers.
Johnny sighed, stepping back so he could look at Jules and Miguel at the same time. "Just focus on what you need to do out there and nothing else. Both of you. Don't think about overall points, just win your fight, okay?"
At the same time, Jules and Miguel's faces scrunched. They turned to each other in sync before Jules turned back to her dad and shook her head. "No." She scoffed out, crossing her arms over her chest. Johnny's eyes widened at Julianna's abrupt undermining. His eyebrows raised and he moved his focus onto primarily Jules.
"What?" He asked and Jules shook her head. "There's no way in hell Silver's getting himself another title." Jules grumbled under her breath, her voice laced with venom as her eyes moved across the room and to Silver. She glared at him for a few seconds before her eyes moved to Miguel beside her.
Miguel was smirking and when their eyes locked, Jules felt herself start to smirk back. She turned back to Johnny, nodding her head confidently. "We've got this."
Johnny looked back and forth between Miguel and Julianna closely. Neither of them seemed nervous anymore. They both just stood in front of him with heads raised high and confident smirks on their faces.
He smiled at the two of them, nodding proudly. "Badass." He hummed.
Julianna's smirk turned into a smile and she laughed to herself, still feeling her blood pumping fast. Loud feedback from the microphone made the three turn their heads back to the center of the mat. Jules turned her body completely to face Gunther as he smiled at the audience in front of him.
"Who's ready for karate?" He yelled and the audience roared in applause. When the cheering died down, Gunther continued. "Our championship fights will follow the same structure as our semifinals."
As Gunther repeated the rules Julianna has gotten to memorize like the back of her hand, she put her hands behind her and pulled them back in hope to crack her back. Once she felt a couple pops, Jules sighed and started to crack her neck, shaking her hands by her sides.
"The individual title goes to the competitor who scores the most points over these three rounds." Gunther explained before his eyes moved away from the audience. He looked back and forth between Zara and Jules on opposite ends of the mat and he raised his free hand to gesture to the two girls. "And now the final match to determine our female world champion. Please come to the mat, Julianna Lawrence of Cobra Kai and Zara Malik of the Iron Dragons. Good luck to you both."
Gunther stepped off the mat, nodding his head to Daryll as he stepped onto the mat to ref. Jules let out a big exhale, her shoulders deflating as the air left her lungs. Johnny sighed from beside her, nodding his head. "All right, kiddo. It's go time." Johnny whispered, patting her back.
Jules swallowed down her nerves and nodded her head. Just before she stepped onto the mat, she turned her head to Miguel.
The boy smiled at Jules and nodded. He didn't need to say anything, Jules knew he was saying "you've got this" with just his smile and nod.
Julianna took a deep breath, gaining back whatever strength and confidence and anger she could muster up for this fight and she smiled back at Miguel.
She stepped onto the mat and walked forward until her and Zara were just a couple feet away from each other. Zara smirked at Jules, looking the girl up and down before letting out a small hum. She looked back up to Julianna's eyes and gave the blonde a fake smile, shaking her head. "Play it cool all you want, but we both know that you don't have a shot at winning this." She hummed with a smile so no one in the audience knew what she was actually saying.
Standing in front of the girl, Jules didn't seem to be that nervous anymore. She scoffed, raising her eyebrows in annoyance. "I made it this far, haven't I?" Jules asked before she took the smallest step toward Zara. One just enough to make Zara straighten up a little, but not enough for Daryll to make her step back.
She copied Zara, looking the shorter girl up and down and smirking when her eyes met hers. "And don't forget about what I did back in Barcelona." Julianna whispered. She looked at Zara's hair and Jules had to hold back laughing when she noticed Zara's ponytail was a little to the right to hide the area where Jules ripped out some of her hair.
"I like the way you've been parting your hair to hide your bald spot by the way." Jules hummed, her smile genuine now as she thought back to the fight. When she looked back to Zara's eyes, the brunette's jaw was clenched and her hands made shaking fists at her side.
Zara shut her eyes and took a deep breath. Her hands and jaw relaxed and when she opened her eyes again, she smiled up at Jules, tilting her head a little.
"Just enjoy your 15 minutes of fame because you're just a valley girl that had no proper training and no real motivation." Zara said in a sickly sweet and fake tone. Again, Jules mocked her. She took another step toward Zara and tilted her head the same condescending way Zara just had.
"I want to see your ass get kicked. Is that not motivation enough?" Jules asked, a fake frown on her face as her eyebrows drew together.
Zara snickered, her eyebrows raising as a cocky smirk made its way onto her face. "Oh, threatening now..." She said, an obnoxious smile on her face that was pissing Jules off. Zara, picking up on Jules' anger, drew her eyebrows together in a fake concern. "Getting nervous you'll end up as just some notch on my black belt? Like your brother?"
Jules tilted her head, her jaw clenching so hard, she was shocked her teeth didn't shatter. She could definitely feel a tension headache growing, but she ignored it. Zara giggled at Julianna's anger before turning around and walking back to her side of the mat.
When Jules got to her side of the mat, she was close to shaking in anger. Johnny didn't even have to see his daughter's face to know she was pissed off. He kept whispering her name, trying to get her attention and calm her down, but Jules was too far gone. Her mind was in the fight already.
After they bowed to the referee and each other, Jules raised her fists up and bounced on the balls of her feet to keep her entry high. Her mind tried to focus on the audience roaring to her right and her family cheering her on behind her.
"Come on, Jules! She's all yours!" Johnny screamed for his daughter and from beside him, Miguel clapped as loud as he could before bringing his hands up to cup his mouth. "Let's go, Jules!"
"You've got this, babe!" Eli cheered from the other side of Miguel and Jules smiled at that behind her fists. Her mind went back to her first All Valley. Her and Hawk had just started dating and when she was up on the mat, he said those exact same words.
"Ready?" The referee, Daryll, looked back and forth between the two girls before throwing his hand down. "Fight!" He yelled before running back.
Zara ran for Jules, sending punch after punch to earn a point. Julianna's eyes widened, not expecting Zara to be so quick. Zara was a lot more aggressive than Jules remembered the girl being in Barcelona.
Jules gritted her teeth, blocking all of Zara's hits before pushing her back. Zara stumbled backwards slightly and Julianna took that as an opportunity to spin around, raising her foot in the process and kicking Zara in the chest.
"Point!" Daryll yelled.
Zara barely gave herself time to even react to the punch before she ran at Jules. She let out a war cry as she sent as many punches as she could Julianna's way.
Julianna's arms started to ache from Zara's punches, but she still blocked every single one. Every time Zara threw a punch at her, Julianna took a small step back. Something Zara didn't notice until there was a good foot and a half between them.
With the distance between them, Jules raised her leg to kick Zara in the chest, but Zara put her hands up, blocking it.
Before Jules could even readjust herself for her next move, Zara kicked her in the side of the head. "Point!" The ref yelled and Julianna shut her eyes in pain, groaning.
She shook her head slightly and opened her eyes. Jules winced when her blurry vision gave her a headache. She tried her hardest to hold her ground when she saw a fuzzy Zara running at her again.
Julianna was quick to block all of Zara's blows towards her and try to get her own in. She went to kick Zara in the stomach, but Zara beat her to the punch, hitting her in the gut and then immediately throwing a kick to her side.
Jules groaned, her hands going to her stomach as the ref raised his hand closer to Zara. "Two points!"
Jules shook off the pain, straightening back up and running for Zara. She went to kick her side, but Zara blocked it. Jules stumbled slightly as she brought her foot back down, losing her footing and Zara stuck her leg out at the sight, hoping to sweep Julianna's legs.
Jules gasped to herself, jumping over Zara's legs and spinning while she raised her foot higher to kick Zara in the face.
"Point!" The ref yelled and Jules could hear her dad cheer from behind her. "Yes!" He screamed as Zara groaned.
The loud buzzer made both girls immediately stop fighting. Julianna's fists dropped and she threw her head back to catch her breath.
She turned to face her team and walked toward them as Johnny raced to meet her at the edge of the mat. Jules was breathing through her flared nostrils as her dad walked up to her. Johnny got right in her face and placed a hand onto her shoulder to get her attention.
"Hey, hey. Look, you're doing well—you're doing great out there, but you've gotta calm down." Johnny said, but Jules was hardly listening to him. Her eyes were off to the side and her jaw was clenched tight.
Johnny sighed, untying the black headband on his head. He reached out for his daughter and Jules jumped when she felt the fabric touch her forehead. Her head snapped back to her dad as he smiled down at her. "You're fighting aggressive, which is good, but you're too angry. The points are close, but it's not enough. She's baiting you, alright? She's making you gas out." Johnny said softly as he tied his headband onto her head
Jules groaned, shutting her eyes. "I know! I know. She just..." Julianna's words died out on her tongue as she subconsciously looked to the audience. Her eyes landed on Robby and she sighed, trying her hardest to calm down.
She shook her head, turning back to Johnny. "Nothing. It's nothing." She whispered, but Johnny knew Jules. He knew his daughter and he knew she was lying right through her teeth.
Johnny moved his hands back to her shoulder and squeezed so she could focus back on him. "Look, whatever it is, you've gotta calm down. You're only one down right, that's nothing. You can pass her easy." He reassured and Jules nodded.
"Hey, sensei. Can I talk with Jules?"
Jules and Johnny turned to Eli, who was looking at mainly Johnny. Their was a silent plea in his eyes, hoping Johnny would put aside his protective dad hatred toward him and just let him talk to Jules.
Johnny looked back and forth between Jules and Eli. Julianna's eyes were glued on Eli, her posture straightened and her eyes softened a little looking at the boy and Johnny sighed. He turned back to Eli and nodded. "Yeah, sure. You might have a better shot at getting through to her." He muttered, raising his hand to gesture to Jules still looking at Eli.
Just before he walked away to give Eli and Jules some privacy, Johnny leaned toward Jules and kissed the top of her head. As he pulled away, he whispered a small "you've got this" into her hairline and then stepped back.
Eli stepped forward, taking Johnny's spot in front of Jules. His hands instantly found her face and he moved her until she was looking at him. Jules tried her best to focus on Eli and the way his thumb gently caressed her cheek and slowly, but it was just too difficult for her.
"Hey, what's going on?" Eli asked softly.
Adrenaline was pumping through Julianna's veins. Her head snapped to the side since she couldn't turn around to face Zara and she suddenly felt her throat tighten as she spoke.
"She won't shut the fuck up!" Jules spat and instantly, Eli pulled Jules closer. Until their noses were touching.
Julianna's mouth clamped shut and her lungs filled with air from the sudden gasp she let out at the action. She stared up at Eli with big eyes and Eli just looked back at her with the same calming smile he had been wearing the entire day.
"Just block her out. You've got a crying baby in your house 24/7, you live with your dad–" Eli cut himself off to laugh. He looked away from Jules for a second, his eyes moving to Demetri in the front row of the crowd, bickering with Joey and Sam sitting in the row behind him.
Eli turned back to Jules and his smile was softer now. "Hell, you're dating me and one of your best friends is Demetri. I know you know how to tune people out." He chuckled out, nodding his head to Demetri.
It took Julianna everything in her not to laugh with Eli. She pressed her lips into a line to stop herself, but Eli saw the way the corners of her lips twitched and he felt a warmth in his chest knowing that he was making Jules feel anything right now that wasn't anxious or angry.
"Just tune her out." Eli stated, his thumb still making gentle strokes across Julianna's cheek.
Jules sighed. She felt like she was having some internal battle with herself. Even though she knew Eli was right, another part of her was eating away at her mind––telling her that she couldn't do it, telling her that Eli is wrong, telling her that Zara was right.
Her eyes widened and it seemed like she shrunk into herself as she looked back up at Eli. "But what if–"
Jules was cut off by Eli sliding his hand to the back of her head and pulling her into a kiss. Eli didn't care that Julianna's dad, brother, and mom were all watching because he felt Jules immediately melted into him. Her hands found his chest to clutch his shirt and she smiled into the kiss. Eli's hands found her waist, pulling her closer to him as Jules snaked her arms around Eli's shoulders.
When they finally broke apart, Eli rested his forehead against Julianna's and smiled. "You can do this. I know it." He whispered, his voice barely audible. "Just breathe."
Finally calming down, Julianna closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She could feel Eli run his thumb up and down her side even though the gi was such a think fabric. He smiled watching Jules take a couple more deep breaths and physically relax.
"There we go." He whispered and when Jules opened her eyes, Daryll was calling her and Zara back to the mat.
Jules took one last deep breath and Eli moved one of his hands back to Julianna's face. "I'll stay right here, okay?" Eli asked and Jules nodded her head, pushing her shoulder back to seem stronger. "Okay."
Eli leaned in and kissed Julianna one more time before he dropped his hand and stepped back to give Jules room to get back up onto the mat. "I love you." Jules said as she turned and stepped onto the mat.
Eli smiled up at her, nodding his head. "I love you too." He hummed back and when Jules turned to face Zara, Eli straightened up, taking a step closer to Jules and grabbing Julianna's hand.
"And Jules?"
Julianna turned back around to face him and her eyes widened when she saw the smirk on his face. For a second, Jules was frozen. It was like she was sent back into a time machine and staring at the Hawk she hardly knew from the beginning of Junior year–only this time, he had a teal mohawk instead of red.
"No fucking mercy." He told her and god, even his voice sounded like it used to.
Jules thought back to the first time she heard "no mercy." It was in this same building two years ago when she was fighting her first All Valley.
And then Jules thought back to the first and only time she ever actually listened to that motto:
Jules standing over a bloodied Anthony Lewis the night they took down Silver's Cobra Kai.
That same anger Jules felt that night, that frustration, that pain, that blinding anger all came right back to her as if she was back in that specific moment only this time, all of those feelings were toward Zara, not Anthony Lewis.
Julianna licked her teeth and her entire body straightened up taller hearing those words echo in her head.
No mercy.
No mercy.
No fucking mercy.
Jules smirked down at Eli and nodded her head, making Eli's own smirk double in size.
As Julianna started to walk toward the center of the mat, she could hear her dad, Miguel, and Eli all cheer for her from behind. She stepped right up to Zara, who was still wearing her all-too-cocky smirk.
"You're wrong by the way. Look around..." Jules told Zara. She looked around the arena and to the crowd. Jules smiled at all the cheers that got louder once she looked their way. Her eyes caught Demetri, Joey, Bert, Sam, and Anthony all starting to stand when they saw Jules looking at them. Lexi was right beside them, still bouncing Laura on her knee, but her smile was just as wide as the others.
Keeping her eyes on the audience, she leaned closer to Zara, letting out a small laugh. "They're all cheering for me." She whispered.
Jules turned back to Zara and saw her already looking up at her instead of the audience. Julianna's eyebrows furrowed as she took another step toward Zara, lowering her head so she got a better look at the Zara's face.
"The valley has been obsessed with karate for decades so trust me when I say, they know who you are and they don't give a shit about you." Jules spat.
"Opposite sides of the mat, please." Daryll called out. Julianna quickly looked to the man and nodded her head. Just before she walked to her side of the mat, Jules turned back to Zara and smiled.
"I'm not just a valley girl. I'm the valley girl." Jules muttered, walking back to her side of the mat. Sure, it was probably extremely cheesy, but she didn't care.
As cheesy as her words may have been, she smirked when she saw Zara look to the audience. Zara's jaw clenched when she realized over half of the room had signs for Jules.
Not her.
Zara blinked, shaking her head to get out of her thoughts before walking up to Julianna and the referee. Jules didn't think Zara was scared, but she was definitely on edge. Jules could see that. Eli could see that. Her dad could see that. Sensei Silver and Wolf could see that.
When the round started, Julianna ran towards Zara. Zara went to throw a punch to Jules, but the blonde caught her fist and punched her in the stomach.
"Point! Lawrence!" The referee yelled, lifting his hand on Julianna's side. Zara jumped on her toes, readjusting her gi and before she could even have time to go back into her fighting stance, Julianna kicked her in the chest, sending her backwards.
Jules didn't give Zara a chance to recover. Jules didn't want to give Zara a chance to recover. She ran at Zara, kicking and punching.
Zara's eyes widened at Julianna's sudden offense and she raised her arms so her forearms would get all of Julianna's punches, but with her arms raised, she didn't see Jules raise her leg as high as she could to kick her until Julianna's foot was already kicking her in the head, knocking her to the floor.
"Knockdown! Ten points!" The referee yelled and when Zara hit the ground, Jules kicked the girl in the chest.
"Another point! Lawrence!" The referee screamed and Jules could hear her dad cheer for her from the sidelines.
Zara scrambled back to her feet, wiping the side of her mouth with the back of her hand. She looked pissed—like she wanted to tear Julianna's head off, but Jules didn't flinch.
Julianna cracked her neck to the side and bounced on the balls of her feet. "Come on." Jules muttered under her breath so Zara couldn't hear her. "Come at me."
And then Zara lunged.
Julianna ducked under her punch and twisted to the side, her leg shooting out in a clean sweep that took Zara's legs right out from under her. The other girl hit the mat with a hard thud, the air flying out of her lungs.
"Knockdown! Ten points!"
As Zara groaned and turned onto her side, trying to push herself up again, Julianna took two quick steps forward and jumped. Her body spun in body midair and as she started to come down, she brought her heel down in an axe kick that landed right on Zara's mouth.
The sound was sickening—a crunch and crack echoed throughout the arena and the faintest clink of something hard was heard bouncing on the mat.
Julianna's eyes widened and her breath caught in her throat as she stared at the little white specks near Zara's face.
Teeth.
The referee ran toward Julianna's side to check on Zara. When the girl didn't get back up, Daryll faced Julianna and raised his hand closest to her. "Knockout! Winner!"
She could hear the crowd lose it. She could hear her dad and Eli yelling her name like she'd just won the fucking lottery.
As Daryll stepped back, Jules stepped forward—closer to Zara.
Once she reached Zara's feet, Jules leaned over her so she was hovering above her and with that same sickly sweet smile Zara always gave Jules, Julianna gave it right back to her.
"Welcome to the valley." Jules breathed out. Zara just groaned in pain as a response, making Julianna lick her teeth to hide her satisfaction. "Bitch." She finished.
Before Jules could even stand up straight, she felt arms wrap around her waist and lift her off the ground. Julianna squealed in shock, her hands holding tightly onto the arms wrapped around her as they spun,
"I told you, you could do it!" She could hear Eli say into her ear before he finally put her down. He kept his arms around her waist so she would stay close and he leaned down, crashing his lips onto hers.
Julianna smiled into the kiss, wrapping her arms around Eli's neck to pull him back in.
Eli's hands settled on the small of her back as the kiss deepened when suddenly, Eli was ripped from Julianna's hold and sent stumbling back a couple steps.
"Move!" Johnny yelled, stepping in front of Eli so he was with Jules. In a second, Johnny had his arms wrapped around his daughter and he was hugging her tighter than he ever has.
"I'm so proud of you, kiddo." He breathed out so only she could hear him.
Jules shut her eyes and hugged her dad back tighter to stop herself from tearing up. She took a big inhale and then relaxed into his arms. "Thanks, dad."
When Johnny finally pulled away, his hand went up to cup Julianna's cheek for a second before he pushed a piece of fallen hair from her ponytail behind her ear.
"Dude!" Miguel cheered, making Johnny and Jules step away from each other so Miguel could have a moment with Jules. Immediately, he wrapped his arms around Julianna's waist and lifted her off her feet. To hold back yelping from getting carried, Jules giggled, holding onto Miguel tighter so he wouldn't drop her.
When he finally put her down, Sam pushed him out of the way to pull Jules into a hug. "I'm so happy for you." Sam muttered into Julianna's shoulder, pulling the blonde down to her height. Jules smiled into Sam's hair, hugging her a little tighter.
"She got what she deserved."
Sam and Jules pulled away from their hug and Jules smiled at Robby and Tory waiting to congratulate her.
"Even though you stole my move. I thought your thing was hair and mine was teeth?" Tory asked playfully, her eyebrows furrowed in a fake confusion as she pointed to herself.
Julianna took slow steps toward Tory, her hands behind her back. "Yeah, well..." Jules hummed pursed her lips playfully and shrugged as she stepped right in front of Tory. "I couldn't have done it without you."
Tory's entire face broke out into a smile and in a second, she was wrapping her arms around Julianna's shoulders and pulling her into a hug.
Jules hugged back almost instantly and the two girls stayed like that for a couple seconds before Jules let out a dramatic sigh.
"And she totally didn't see that coming." She muttered and Tory groaned at the reference again.
"Weirdo." Tory grumbled as she peeled herself out of Julianna's arm. Jules practically cackled at her own words. She saw Tory fighting herself not to smile or laugh back before Robby stepped up, resting his body weight on his left crutch.
"Nice going, dweeb." Robby said, pulling Jules into a hug. Jules scoffed, rolling her eyes as she started to smile.
While she started to hug Robby back, her hands traveled up until it reached the top of Robby's head and before he could pull away, she ruffled his hair. "Thanks, loser." Jules hummed happily as Robby groaned.
"Make room! Make room!" A voice yelled, pushing people to get through to the crowd.
Suddenly, Robby was ripped from Julianna's arms and Lexi appeared in front of the blonde. She had a big smile on her face as she squealed, jumping toward Jules for a hug. "You did it!" Lexi cheered, her voice an octave or two higher than normal.
Jules relaxed in Lexi's arms, hugging the girl softer than she had everyone else. Her eyes closed and she put the weight of her head against the side of Lexi's.
"I love you so much." Lexi breathed into Julianna's shoulder.
Jules giggled at the girls words and they pulled away. "I love you too." The blonde hummed back, her eyes on Lexi as she pulled Joey into a hug.
"Yes!" The boy cheered, pulling the girl he's watched grow up into a bear-hug. In Joey's eyes, Julianna was his second sister. She was always over at his house growing up whether it was for sleepovers, play dates, or even nights when Johnny was stuck at the police station and Jules needed dinner. He was so happy for Jules winning.
Jules groaned at the tight hug, feeling the metal of Joeys crutches jab into her side. She squeezed the boy back quickly to reciprocate the hug before she patted him on the back to let her go.
"Your crutch is in my rib." Jules winced and instantly, Joey was off of her.
"Sorry." He muttered, as he quickly regained his balance and readjusted the crutch under his arm.
Julianna suddenly felt a body walk up to stand beside her from behind. She turned her head and her eyes widened at Daniel standing side by side with her.
"Incredible." The man breathed out, pulling Julianna into a hug. Jules was quick to return the man's hug, smiling against the edge of his shoulder.
"Congratulations to our new Sekai Taikai girls champion, Julianna Lawrence!" Gunther announced into the microphone. Jules and Daniel pulled away from their hug and Julianna turned to face the audience.
As soon as her eyes were facing the crowd, the cheers got louder. Julianna giggled, throwing her fist in the air in victory.
Eli crashed into her arms again, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her into his side as she basked in her glory. She wrapped her hand that wasn't up in the air, around Eli and started to wave to the crowd.
Her eyes landed on Bert and Anthony sitting with Devon and Kenny. The two boys raised their signs higher when they saw Jules was looking at them and their smiles doubled in size.
Julianna laughed harder, her ribs starting to hurt. It could've been from how happy she was—or her fight—or maybe both, but Jules didn't care. She brought her hand to her mouth and blew a dramatic kiss to the boys before she settled into Eli's side completely.
