Google Helpline
The next day arrived quickly, and it was the day of the google helpline challenge. Team Lyle were all nervous, but they knew that they had this one in the bag and they were going to nail it this time for real and hopefully they'd take the lead.
All of the interns were sat in this large office with separate computers and telephones or headsets each, team Lyle were all sat near each other and they felt ready for anything.
"Good morning, welcome to the google helpline. You will man the phones for exactly one hour, and before you begin; please log into your google account on the computers. Click on the icon, accessing your google account so that we can review your work later." Chetty explained, standing at the front of the office. The interns followed the instructions carefully.
"The helpline... Is open now." Chetty announced, and everyone started to talk on their phones.
"This is google helpline I'm Emily how can I help you?"
"You're saying you're locked out of your gmail? Well the good news is..."
"But I'm gonna play a hunch here, delete all of your cookies. Did that work? Great!"
"Glad I could help."
"The problem is you probably have too many gmails open at the same time..."
"... It's not a problem, you're gonna click on the gear icon, then settings, then advanced settings..."
"Yeah you can actually have the same tabs open across all of your devices."
"So the browser keeps opening windows and you're telling me that's from amazon?"
"You'll have to sign in to google wallet and update your credit card expiration date."
"Well the counter sync problem occurs when you switch time zones, are you on vacation?"
"Your device probably isn't compatible with google play."
"Okay see that box at the bottom of the window? Click that twice for me."
"Times up!" Chetty declared, pointing at the clock and everyone stopped talking or in Billy's case; singing.
"So soon?" Billy said, surprised. "Man, I was just getting warmed up here!"
Everyone in team Lyle was giving each other high fives.
"Please submit your log files so that I may review your work later." Chetty told everyone.
Emily clicked the blue button, satisfied with her work. She actually did it, she didn't mess up and say some stupid answer. She had Stuart to thank for that- like most things.
"Happily, just click the blue button." Nick smiled, clicking his blue button.
"Where's that at?" Billy asked, confused.
"Click the blue button, upper left." Nick pointed to Billy's computer screen.
"Mine's not blue mine's grey..." Billy kept trying to click it so it kept making this beeping sound and it obviously wasn't going to work. Everyone turned to look at Billy, all of theirs had worked accept his and the team looked at him with worry.
"Up in the corner? It won't work."
"The blue one."
"Mine's not clicking, mine's grey. Is anyone else's grey?" Billy clicked and clicked and clicked but it just wasn't working. Emily bit her nails in worry that something was about to go very wrong.
"Did you not hear my opening remarks?" Chetty shook his head, walking over to Billy.
"Yeah, no I heard most of your opening remarks it was just- I was getting in the zone I was pre-gaming." Billy told him, but Chetty just sighed and he looked very disappointed.
"It was very clear that you had to log into your account, so that I could review your work later." Chetty pointed out. The team started to worry even more, widening their eyes.
"Well the good news is you got to review my work now. You don't need the instant replay because you saw the touch-down live in person." Billy tried to get Chetty to allow it, but it didn't look like it was going to work.
"I don't really understand that analogy, but I do know that; attention to detail is a paramount importance here and my instructions were explicit," Chetty explained. "And if there's no recording, then it's as if you didn't show up today."
"Except I did show up, I'm sitting right here Chetty." Billy said.
"Well according to your log, you're not." Chetty started. "And since every intern must complete the challenge to be scored..."
"Please don't finish that sentence." Emily said, as Stuart closed his eyes and sighed, they all knew what was coming.
"Your team, will unfortunately receive a score; of zero." Chetty finished.
"Zero?" Nick said, not believing it.
"Well done, Mr McMahon. Perhaps more studying, less pudding." Chetty said, patting Billy on the back and then he walked away.
"Come on Chetty! You're not gonna trip us with a technicality, he's right here!" Nick tried his hardest to reason with him, but he just kept walking.
"Oh Billy Billy Billy, what have you done?" Graham rose from the other side of the computers, looking down at Billy and the team. "It's you lot I feel bad for. It's really hard to get here, some of you are probably pretty intelligent. You deserve better, I'm sorry."
"Okay, I'm done." Emily said, standing up, and grabbing something to throw at the boy, but Stuart and Neha quickly grabbed her. "You're not going to be talking much shit when I shove this thing up your ass!" She yelled at him, still trying to throw it, only for Stuart to grab her wrist and pry the thing out of her hand.
"This isn't pictionary, or study time, you can't throw things." Stuart told her and she glared before yanking herself out of their hold and walking off, shoving Graham as she did so.
After the challenge, they found a pacing Emily in a smaller office and sat down around the small space and talked together. Billy wasn't there for some reason, so it was all of team Lyle minus Billy.
"Well that's great. Another win for team Graham." Stuart sighed.
"There's only one challenge left, even if we're perfect it won't be enough." Yo-Yo added, looking down. His right eyebrow was almost gone.
"You're right Yo-Yo." Emily agreed. She looked around at the others and realized how much they all deserved it, even Billy. But he just messed up that day.
"We had 'em too." Neha said.
"We did, but you know it's just a little hiccup, a little adversity, alright?" Nick tried to make it seem like Billy did nothing wrong.
"No, Nick come on, face it. Look, Billy's a great guy and everything but he kind of blew it for us today." Stuart said honestly, and Billy made his way into the room, obviously hearing what Stuart had said.
"Yeah I know what your saying but-" Nick got cut off by Billy.
"The kids are right Nick," He said, Stuart turned around and realized that he heard what he said and he started to look really guilty. "I just wanted to let you guys know I did study last night, I tried my best it's just uh- you know today on the phones, I just... It's my fault."
Everyone looked at Billy sympathetically, and Stuart still wore this look of guilt. Something which Emily had never seen.
"He was right when he said you deserve better," Billy looked down at Stuart. "I'm really sorry that I cost you."
Billy then left the room, leaving the remaining members of team Lyle in a weird silence. None of them really knew what to say. And after a moment Nick went after Billy.
"Damn." Stuart sighed, running a hand over his face.
