Yugi vs. Kaiba! The Heart of the Cards!
((Amari's POV))
I smiled as I stood beside my brother, watching him duel his best friend Joey in a battle of Duel Monsters. It was our favorite pastime before class started. I smiled and looked over Yugi's deck. He had some strong cards in them, but could he win with them? I shook my head. What was I thinking! Of course my brother would win! I smiled as I watched him lay a face-down and end his turn. Joey must not have been paying attention, because my brother said,
"Hey Joey! Earth to Joey! Hey, are you in there? It's your turn!" My brother smiled as he spoke. I smiled back. How could I not? It was impossible to not smile when he did. Ever since we were little, he had a habit of making me smile, no matter how terrible my day was. Joey, on the other hand, wasn't smiling. He was thinking hard, looking at his hand for cards that would defeat my brother.
Tristan came up behind Joey and smirked. "Aww! Isn't he cute when he's thinking?" he said, putting Joey in a head lock. I giggled slightly. Joey scowled slightly. "Tristan...Yugi here is teaching me how to play Duel Monsters!" Tristan looked confused. "Drooling Monsters?" Joey growled angrily (or was it out of annoyance?). "Duel Monsters, ya nimrod!" he yelled, pushing Tristan backwards. "Sheesh!" Beside me, my best friend Tea smiled. "They've been at it for hours," she said. "Joey's starting to get the hang of it, but Yugi's like an expert!"
I smiled. "What can I say? Yugi's a genius when it comes to dueling! Even I haven't beaten him yet, and I've taken him down to 200 Life Points before!" I said. Joey smirked as he put a card face-up on his side of the field. It had 800 Attack Points and 200 Defense Points. Pretty wise move on Joey's part, considering he barely had any Life Points left. "Alright, Yugi...It's time to duel!!!" he exclaimed. Tea smiled and explained the rules to Tristan. I tuned her out, having heard the rules MANY times before. I sighed and heard a voice behind me.
"Excuse me, miss...May I join you?" it asked. I turned and gasped, surprised to see the new kid, Ryou Bakura standing behind me, smiling. I blushed deeply. "Umm...Sure. G-go right ahead," I said. He smiled and stood beside me, watching the duel unfold. "Pretty good move, huh Yug?" Joey said. He smiled. "Yeah Joey," Yugi said, taking a card from his hand. "But not good enough!" In a swift move, he placed one of his dragon cards on the field. It had 1500 Attack and 800 Defense. It left Joey's card in the dust, thus eliminating his Life Points.
Bakura smiled. "Your brother is a wonderful Duelist, Amari," he said. I smiled. "Tell me something I don't know," I said, smiling. "Woah, you stink at this game, Joey!" one of our classmates said. Joey pouted, and I kinda felt sorry for him. Yugi smiled. "No, you did great Joey!" he said. "You just need to have better cards!" "Really? You really think better cards will help me, Yug?" He nodded.
"Yugi's right, Joey!" I said. "Our grandpa owns a game shop, and we get all our cards from him! That's how my brother and I got so good at dueling!" Joey smiled. "Your own game shop?! What are we waiting for?! Let's go already!" Yugi and I smiled. "Okay!" we said in unison. "Hey big brother? Think Grandpa will show us his super ultra rare card?" I asked. He smiled. "I know he will!!!" he said.
-time skip to the game store-
I smiled, gently gripping my locket as we walked into our grandpa's game store. I loved every day I spent in this shop! It was my favorite place in the world! I sighed and smiled more as we walked to the counter. "Grandpa, we're home!" Yugi said. Grandpa smiled at us. "And I see you've brought company!" he said. "Gramps, could you show our friends your awesome super-rare card?" Yugi asked. Gramps' eyes widened. "Rare card? My special card?!"
I smiled. "Yeah, we all wanna see it! Pretty please, Grandpa?" I said, folding my hands in a begging pose. "Please?" Yugi added, doing the same. Joey bowed. "Pretty please?" Grandpa rubbed his chin, thinking for a bit, before smiling. "Ha ha! How can I refuse?" he said, pulling out a brown box. "You kids are in for a treat. I don't take this card out too often." He reached into the box and pulled it out. "Ready? Here it is!" He pulled out a card that had the picture of a white dragon with blue eyes on it. That card is SUPER POWERFUL! It has 3000 Attack Points and 2500 Defense Points! I thought, my eyes wide.
"The Blue Eyes White Dragon!" Grandpa said proudly. "So rare, so powerful, I never let it leave my hands!" Joey, Yugi, Tea, and I stared at the card in awe as Tristan scowled. "Hm. It doesn't look all that special to me!"he said, taking the card out of Grandpa's hands. "Aah! This card is priceless!" Grandpa said, snatching it back quickly. "There are only four of them in all the world!" Joey smiled. "Speaking of priceless, I'm ready to trade!" Grandpa scowled, holding the card out of his sight. "Not for this card!" he said sternly. "Huh? Oh! I didn't mean that card! I meant show me some other cool cards, to get me started!" Joey said.
Then, the store bell jingled, signaling that another customer had come in. Gramps smiled in his usual way. "Yes, can I help you?" he asked. "If you can't, it certainly wouldn't surprise me!" the man in the doorway said. I gasped as I saw who it was. "Seto Kaiba!!!" Yugi and I said together. "Doesn't he have a big, fancy company to run?!" Tristan said. "What's he doing down here?!"
Kaiba smirked. "Not that it's any of your business, but I've come to see the card." Joey smiled. "Are you into Duel Monsters too?" I smiled also, eager to have another dueling buddy. "This is perfect! We should duel together sometime!" I said. Kaiba smirked. "Me duel YOU?! I'd have a better challenge playing Solitaire!" he said.
I cried a little and Yugi held my hand gently, comforting me. "What?" Joey said, not happy in the least that this guy was insulting his friend. "I am the number one ranked duelist in the country, and the favorite to win the Duel Monsters Championship. You wouldn't last 2 minutes in a duel against me. And that little girl would barely last 15 seconds," Kaiba said. I looked down, trying not to cry more. Joey growled and bared his fist at Kaiba. "Ooh, I'm shakin'! Maybe you'd like to settle this with fists instead of cards!"
Yugi released my hand and stood in front of Joey. "Whoa! Take it easy, Joey!" he said, putting his hands up. "But Yugi! Kaiba's asking for it!" Joey said. Kaiba smirked more. "Now does this shop have any worthwhile cards or not?" My head immediately snapped up. "Hey you! Watch your mouth! My grandpa's store has great cards! And if a corporate big shot like you can't see it, then you may as well take your rich self out of here!" I yelled angrily.
Kaiba opened his mouth for a reply and gasped when he saw the Blue Eyes Grandpa had. He pushed me, causing me to hit my head hard on a display case. I grabbed my head and groaned. "Ow!!!"I said. Yugi ran up to me. "Amari! You okay?" he asked. I nodded slowly and stood, grabbing my head. "Yeah, I'm fine. Stupid big jerk, doesn't have any manners for girls!" I murmured. "Can it be? The Blue Eyes White Dragon in a dump like this?!" Kaiba said.
Grandpa quickly closed the box he kept the card in and took it away. "Well, enough window shopping. Is there anything else I can help you with?" he asked. Kaiba growled and opened a briefcase to reveal what I knew were cards to Grandpa. Grandpa's eyes widened and Kaiba's scowl grew deeper. "Listen to me, old man," he said. "Give me your Blue Eyes White Dragon card and I'll trade you all these!" Yugi, Tea, Tristan, Joey, and I gasped as we saw the cards he offered. Most of them, Yugi and I had never seen before!
Grandpa smiled again. "Ah, nice. But no thanks," he said politely. I sighed with relief, happy that Grandpa wouldn't give his special card to this jerk. Kaiba growled, not giving in for a second. "Well, if you won't trade it, maybe you'll sell it!" he yelled. My eyes narrowed. This guy just didn't know when to quit!
"Name your price," Kaiba said. "I can pay anything you ask!" Grandpa smiled, just as cool and collected as he always was. "I'm sure you could...But this card is worth more to me than you could ever offer," he said. "Not because of its power, or because its so rare...But because of what it means to me. This card was given to me by a good friend. And so I treasure that card, as I do that friend. So parting with it is completely out of the question!" I smiled. Gramps... I thought.
Yugi smiled. "You'd feel the same even if it were a common card, right Grandpa?" he said. Grandpa nodded. "Exactly. You see, this precious card has bonded with my heart." Kaiba pounded his fist on the table as he closed his case and picked it up off the counter. "Fine! I've heard enough of your nonsense!" he yelled angrily as he left. "Senile old fool!"
I gasped and cried as I turned to Grandpa. "Gramps...You don't believe any of that bad stuff Kaiba said, right?" I asked. He smiled and ruffled my hair. "Of course I don't, little Ami." I smiled. Little Ami was my Grandpa's pet nickname for me. He always called me that. And it always made me smile nd feel better, no matter how down in the dumps I was.
"Don't you believe what he said either, little Ami," Grandpa said, smiling more. "You're a wonderful duelist. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise." I nodded and smiled, drying my eyes. "Okay." I yawned a little and smiled. "I'm gonna call it a day. Night everyone," I said as I walked upstairs to my bedroom. "Night," everyone said as I walked to my room. I smiled and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow.
-the next day-
I gasped as I woke up and saw the time on my clock. "Oh crud! I'm gonna be late!" I yelled as I quickly dressed. Downstairs, I heard my grandpa's voice. "And if I were...To decline?" he asked. "I'm afraid I must...Insist," a man's voice said. (He sounded more like a toad than a man to me.) I gasped and quickly ran downstairs. "Grandpa!!!!" I yelled as I reached the bottom. He gasped as he saw me. "Ami, no!!! Run away! Hurry!" he said.
"Huh?!" I said. I gasped as two men dressed in blue suits towered over me. "Now, now, old man...Surely you don't want your granddaughter hurt?" their ringleader said. I whimpered and backed up. "Grandpa..." I said as one of them grabbed me by the shirt. Toad Face nodded. "Do it."
I gasped. "Grandpa! Whatever these guys want, don't listen to them!!!" I yelled. "You be quiet, little girl!!!!" the guy who grabbed me yelled as he hit me. I coughed and doubled over. "Grand...pa..." I choked out. "Ami!!!" Grandpa yelled. He turned to Toad Man, his eyes narrowed. "Alright! I'll accept Young Kaiba's invitation!" Grandpa said.
The men who held me dropped me in an instant. I fell to the floor on my face. "Grand...pa..." I said, weakly reaching for him as he left. The men in suits didn't leave and instead, proceeded to beat me to a pulp. I cried and cried until it was over. What else could I do? I couldn't fight back! My vision blurred as I watched them leave.
"Think it'll get the message through to that old man when he comes back?" one asked. "Of course...But you mean...If he comes back," the other added. They laughed as they exited the store. I gasped. I was sure Grandpa was walking into a trap. Grandpa! Yugi...Someone...Please...H-help... I thought as I blacked out.
((Yugi's POV))
I smiled as I walked with my friends. "I hope he has more cool cards today!" Joey said, smiling. "Yeah, me too!" Tea and Tristan added. I smiled also, but something on the inside had me worried. Amari hadn't come to school today. She was feeling fine last night, so being sick was out of the question. So what could've caused her to be absent? Joey snapped me out of my thoughts when he yelled. "Hey Gramps! I'm here for some more cards!" His smile quickly fell as he saw no one was at the counter. "Gramps?" Joey called, looking around. "Hey! Hey Gramps!"
"Grandpa, I'm home!" I called. "Maybe he...went out?" Tea said. "Yeah, but why would he leave the door unlocked?" Joey asked. "Grandpa? Amari? Is anyone here?" I called again. Just when I was starting to think the worst, I heard someone call out to me weakly from behind the counter. "Y...Yu...gi..." a voice said softly. I gasped. I knew exactly who that voice belonged to! "Amari!" I yelled, running behind the counter.
I gasped at the sight that awaited me. My little sister was badly beaten. Blood and bruises covered her body. "Amari!!!" I yelled, pulling her closer to me. "Y...Yugi...B-big...bro...ther..." she said weakly. "Amari, what happened?" Joey asked before I could. "S...Some goons...from Kaiba's company...came to ask Grandpa...to duel...with Kaiba...He asked...what would happen...if he refused...So...two thugs...grabbed me....and hurt me....to...get to Grandpa...He said...he'd go. And...after Kaiba's...lackey left....The two men...beat me....until they knew....I couldn't follow..."
I gasped. "So Grandpa's with Kaiba?!" Amari nodded weakly, tears falling as she spoke again. "Y-yes...Yugi...you must...help him....I think that...Grandpa...has gone into a...a trap! Please...H-help him...Yu...gi..." Then, my little sister closed her eyes and fell unconscious once more. "Hey! Stay with me, Amari! Amari!" I yelled as I shook her gently. No response came. I shook my head. "No good...She's unconscious." "Who would do such a thing?" Tea asked. "And why?" Joey added. Amari, I thought, looking down. I'm so sorry!
Just then, the phone rang. I quickly put on a smile and answered it. "Hello? Game Shop." "Ah, Yugi! Perfect timing," a voice on the other end said. I gasped. "Kaiba?!" I said, my eyes wide. "Your grandfather 's here visiting, but he's not feeling well," Kaiba said, coldness lacing his voice. "Why don't you come by my office and pick him up." I gasped. "Kaiba?! What have you done, Kaiba?!" I asked, my eyes wide with fear. The dial tone was the only response. Amari was right! Grandpa must have fallen into whatever trap Kaiba set for him! I thought.
I turned to my friends. "Let's go!" I said. They nodded. "Right!" "W-wait!" Amari said from behind us. I gasped and turned. "Amari! You're awake!" Joey said. She nodded. "I have to go with you guys," she said. "But Amari-!" I protested. "Please Yugi," she begged, tears falling down her face. "I'm the only reason Grandpa went with those guys! Let me help you...Please! I promise you, I'm okay now." I sighed and nodded. "Alright, Amari," I said. "But if it gets to dangerous, I want you to run. Understand?"
She nodded. "I will. I promise, big brother." I nodded also, and we left the Game Shop, heading for Kaiba's company.
-Kaiba Corp. (Amari's POV)-
I panted heavily as we ran to the elevator doors of Kaiba's company. Grandpa, please be okay! I thought, crying a little. When we got to Kaiba's office, a horrible sight befell us. Grandpa was lying face-down on the floor, badly injured. "Aah!" Tea said, her eyes wide. "GRANDPA!!!!" Yugi and I yelled, running to his aid.
Yugi and I knelt beside our grandfather. "Grandpa," Yugi said, frantic with worry. "Are you okay?" I added, my eyes filling with tears. Grandpa looked up at us, sweat staining his face as he groaned in pain. "Yugi...Ami...I failed..." Grandpa said weakly. "I wanted...to teach that boy Kaiba a lesson...about the Heart of the Cards...But I lost..." Then, Grandpa groaned and fell forward. "Grandpa!!!" Yugi and I yelled in unison as he fell again. Why? I thought, crying. Why would Kaiba do this to Grandpa?! He never hurt anyone! My question was immediately answered.
"How's the old man feeling, hmm?" Kaiba asked from the top of the stairs. Joey growled and clenched his left fist in anger. "Kaiba, you sleaze! What have you done to him?!" he yelled. Kaiba smirked, his hands in his pockets. "We had a duel, that's all," Kaiba replied. "With each of us putting up our most valuable card as the prize."
I gasped, my eyes wide with fear. If Grandpa lost the duel to Kaiba...Then Kaiba had his special Blue Eyes White Dragon! "Grandpa..." I said, holding onto his shoulder. "Please tell me Kaiba's lying!" Grandpa panted heavily before replying. "I...I wish I could, little Ami...But...he's not." Kaiba smirked more and closed his eyes. "But I guess playing against a champion like myself was just too much stimulation for the old fool!" he said, laughing a little.
I growled and clenched my fists, furious at Kaiba for his actions against my Grandpa. "Kaiba...You...!!!!!" I said, my voice barely above a whisper. Kaiba chuckled. "Aww...What's wrong, little Ami? Are you angry? Or is it the fact that you know you're the reason he agreed to my challenge in the first place?"
That did it. His use of Grandpa's nickname sent me over the edge. "Darn you, Seto Kaiba!!!!!!" I yelled, raising my fist as I ran at him. "Amari, no!!!" Yugi yelled. I didn't listen. Instead I let my fist fly toward my target. Kaiba's FACE! Or so I thought.
Kaiba caught my fist before I could land a blow. "My, my, my! Don't you have a lot of energy, little Ami?" he said, smirking. I growled and struggled against him. "Stop calling me that!!!! Only my Grandpa can!" I yelled.
Kaiba's gaze averted to the locket Grandpa had given me on my 8th birthday. "Oh? And what's this? A gift from Grandpa Muto?" he said smirking more. "I don't think you'll be needing this anymore!" In a swift movement, Kaiba snapped the golden locket off my neck and threw me back at my brother.
I gasped. "No! Give it back!" I yelled. Kaiba smirked. "Actually, I think I'll hold onto it for a while. Oops!" he said as he purposely dropped it. I gasped as I watched it hit the ground, then sighed as I saw it was unharmed. "How clumsy of me!" Kaiba said, faking concern for the locket. "I hope nothing happens to it while it's down there!"
Then, Kaiba raised his foot and stomped it forcefully on my locket, severing one of the halves instantly. I gasped, along with my friends and my brother. "Oh dear! I'm so sorry! I really must watch where I'm going next time!" Kaiba said, smirking more. "Here. You can have it back now!" He tossed the locket and it skittered to a stop at my feet.
I hit my knees and cradled the severed pieces in my hands as I cried and surveyed the damage done to it. The half that was still intact was barely hanging onto the clasp. That locket was more than a mere necklace to me. I cherished it as much as Grandpa treasured his Blue Eyes card. It meant everything to me! "Kaiba!" Tea said, her eyes narrowed as she pointed a chastising finger at him. "You should be ashamed of yourself!"
Kaiba smirked. "It was fair. And look at the sweet prize I won!" he said, showing off Grandpa's card. I gasped and we all watched in horror as Kaiba turned the card onto its side and ripped it. "Grandpa's most treasured card!" Yugi said, his eyes wide. "Yes, the Blue Eyes White Dragon is a rare and powerful card," Kaiba said. "And this one...Will never be used against me." I gasped as I watched him toss the pieces aside like they were nothing to him.
Yugi and I gasped and Grandpa sat up (or rather, he TRIED) and raised his hand toward where Kaiba threw the card's pieces. "No! My Blue Eyes White Dragon! My...my treasure!" Then. Grandpa groaned and laid on his side yet again. "Grandpa!!!" I yelled, crying my eyes out. "Grandpa, hold on!!!" Yugi said. Then, Yugi's eyes narrowed as he turned to Kaiba. "How could you do such a thing?!" He yelled.
Grandpa reached his hand out to Yugi, giving him his deck. "Yugi, here! Take this," Grandpa ordered. "Huh?! Grandpa...!" Yugi said, worry covering his voice. "I...I built this deck, I put my soul into these cards...And...I taught you and...little Ami...everything I know..." Grandpa said weakly. "Take them. Take my cards and show him respect. Teach Kaiba respect for the Heart of the Cards, Yugi....Little Ami...!"
"But Grandpa..!" I said. "We can't just leave you here!" Yugi nodded. "Amari's right! You need help! We've got to get you to a doctor!" Kaiba scoffed. "Sounds like an excuse to me!" he said. "Your friends can care for your grandfather...While you and I duel. Unless you're afraid." Tears filled mine and my brother's eyes.
"Take him down, Yugi! You too, Amari!" Joey yelled. "Huh?" Yugi and I said. "We can take care of your Grandpa while you and Amari teach that creepy Kaiba a lesson!" Joey said. "Teach that rich, spoiled brat what a real duel's all about!" Tea nodded. "For your Grandpa," she said.
"I...I don't know..." Yugi said. "Me either..." I said uncertainly. "Trust me, you two are the best duelists I know! And Yugi, you've got the Millennium Puzzle!" Joey said. "You can do this, guys! I know you can!" "We all do!" Tea added. Yugi and I nodded. "Okay, Grandpa," Yugi said, gently taking the deck from his hands. "We'll do it." Grandpa nodded. "I know you two will." Tea smiled and held up a marker.
"Everyone, put your hands together!" she ordered. "And I'll mark us with a special sign." I looked down at my hand and saw the outward curve and corner of a smiley face. "Huh? What gives Tea?" Joey asked, staring blankly at the mark. "It's a special sign of our friendship," she replied. "So when Yugi and Amari are dueling, no matter how tough it gets...They'll know that they're not alone. That we're all right there with them!"
Yugi and I nodded as Tea, Joey, and Tristan took Grandpa outside to the ambulance. Grandpa....I thought as I held my locket tightly in my hand. I swear to you...No matter what it takes....Yugi and I....WILL TAKE KAIBA DOWN!!!! With that thought, a glow emitted from my locket and I felt it get hot and felt something join together in my hands. I pocketed the locket and took my place beside Yugi on Kaiba's custom made game board.
"I made this Virtual Reality field myself. I think you'll agree it adds a bit more life to the game," Kaiba said. "We each begin with 2,000 Life Points. First player, or in this case players, to hit zero loses!" I narrowed my eyes, getting my game face on as our panels moved within battle distance of Kaiba's. "Are you ready to play, runts?" Kaiba asked.
I opened my mouth to speak, but Yugi beat me to it. "Playtime's over, Kaiba!" he yelled. Then, his Millennium puzzle lit up and began to glow around him. "Yu-Gi-Oh!!!!" My brother yelled. Then, soon after, his voice was replaced by what sounded like a grown-up's voice.
I gasped as my locket began to glow inside my pocket. I took it out and gasped as I saw the same symbol from my brother's puzzle on my locket. (The Eye of Horus, as my Grandpa called it.) My eyes widened as the same bright flash erupted around me as I held the locket. "Gēmu no imōto (Sister of Games)!!!!" I yelled. Then, I transformed into something else as I blacked out.
((Yuki's POV))
I sighed as I was finally freed from that locket I was sealed in for so many years. Millennia, quite possibly. I turned to my right and saw a boy that looked exactly like I did standing beside me. "Now Kaiba," he said. "Prepare yourself..." The words came out of my mouth before he could say them. "Because it's time to duel!!!" I yelled.
The boy raised an eyebrow at me. "Who...Are you?" I sighed. "You really don't remember me...Big brother?" I asked, smiling. He gasped. "Wait a second...Yuki? Is that you?!" I smiled and nodded. "The one and only," I said. "I see...You must've come out of Amari's locket after I emerged from Yugi's Puzzle.
I nodded. "Yes. Apparently her need to avenge her Grandpa's loss awakened me, even after my vessel was snapped in half," I replied. "Also, I felt you needed my help, big brother. But enough of that. We've got a spoiled brat rich boy to beat!" Yami nodded and turned his attention back to Kaiba.
"Virtual systems are go...So let's begin!" Kaiba yelled. "I attack with the mighty Hitotsu-Me Giant!" He put his monster face-up on his side of the field. A light glowed from above after Kaiba summoned the monster. "Brace yourselves Yugi and little Ami! I don't think you've ever dueled like THIS before!" Kaiba said, smirking. Yami gasped as the monster appeared in real life on Kaiba's field. "He's brought the monster on the card to life!" Kaiba smirked. "It's my virtual simulator. It creates lifelike projections of EVERY Duel Monster!" he said proudly.
I growled. "So that's how you beat our Grandpa!" I yelled angrily. "Well, it's my turn now! I call upon the Winged Dragon! Guardian of the Fortress!" The monster appeared with a flourish. Hitotsu-Me Giant rushed at the Dragon. "Fireball Attack!!!" my brother yelled. In an instant, the enemy was incinerated and Kaiba groaned in pain as he took 200 damage to his Life Points. "Big brother! Are you alright?!" a little boy on Kaiba's sidelines yelled. Kaiba's little brother, I guess. I thought.
On our side, Amari's friend (Joey, was it?) cheered. "Alright, Yugi!!!" he yelled, pumping his fist in the air. Kaiba smirked. "Well played, Yugi. For a beginner," he said. I scowled. "My turn. I summon Nekogal #1 in attack mode!" I yelled. My monster appeared, ready to obey my commands. I looked at my hand. Not much except a few spell cards and one trap card. Well...Grandpa believed in the Heart of the Cards...So I will too! I thought. "I place one card face down and end my turn! Your move, Kaiba," I said.
Kaiba smirked. "Again...Not bad. For a beginner," he said. "But let's see how the two of you deal with THIS!!!" he yelled, playing another monster in Attack Mode. A clown appeared and cackled at Yami and I. His eyes widened in confusion. "Saggi the Dark Clown? But that card hardly has any Attack Strength!" Kaiba nodded. "True, your Winged Dragon is at 1400 and little Ami's Nekogal #1 is at 1100, while my Saggi is only at 600," he said. "But...If I combine it with this card...!" I gasped. "A Magic Card!"
"Exactly," Kaiba said. "The Negative Energy Generator. It multiplies my monster's attack number by 3!" A dark lightning aura glowed around the monster and its power increased to 1800. I gasped. "Oh no!" I yelled. Kaiba smirked. "Oh yes!" he said, mimicking my panicked tone. "Now go Saggi! Attack Nekogal #1!!!!!" Saggi's attack broke through my Nekogal, and I took 800 points of damage. I growled. I was down to 1200 Life Points! If I didn't think on my feet next time, I'd lose this for sure!
I hit my knees, gripping my side in pain. "Amari!!!" Yami yelled. "I...I'm fine...Big brother..." I said as I recovered. "That's what the power of combining cards can do!" Kaiba yelled. "I end my turn. It's your move, Yugi!" I watched as my brother played a monster in Defense Mode. Good thinking! If you do that, your Life Points will be safe! I thought, smiling. "Dark Light Attack!!!" Kaiba yelled as the monster threw the attack. My brother's face-down was immediately sacrificed. He growled and Kaiba laughed.
"You two aren't faring any better than the old man did!" he taunted. I growled. "Enough! Don't you dare talk about our grandfather that way!!! It's my move! I draw!!!" I yelled, drawing a card. I smiled. Perfect! I thought. This will surely save my bacon! I smiled and slapped my card onto my duel board. "I summon...Rocket Warrior in Attack Mode!" I yelled as my monster appeared. "Now...I place one card face-down and end my turn. Your move, Kaiba." Kaiba smirked and placed a face-down. "Your decks are just as week and feeble as your grandfather's!"
Yami's eyes narrowed at that comment, as did mine. "Our grandpa is a great man!" Yami said. "And he's a better duelist than you'll EVER be! And I can feel his heart in this deck!" I smiled proudly and added, "I bet you don't have that kind of faith in YOUR cards, Kaiba!" "I trust in my grandpa's deck," Yami said calmly.
He drew another card, then smirked. "And my faith rewards me, with Gaia the Fierce Knight!" he yelled. "With a destructive power of 2300 points!" I smiled as Kaiba's clown disappeared. "Yaay Yugi!" I yelled. In one move, Kaiba's Life Points were taken down to 1300.
"Way to go Yugi!" Joey yelled from the sidelines. Yami smiled. "Alright. Amari, it's your move," he said. "No, Yugi..." I said, shaking my head and smiling. "From now on, we do our turns as a TEAM! That makes it YOUR move, Kaiba!" I announced. "Hmph! This will be over sooner than you think!" he yelled.
Kaiba drew another card and smirked. "I call upon...The Blue Eyes White Dragon!!!" he yelled. I gasped. "That...Can't be!" I said. "Impossible!" Joey said. "We all watched you tear that card in HALF!"
"Surprised? Did you think your grandfather was the only one to possess a Blue Eyes White Dragon?" Kaiba asked. I gasped as I remembered something Grandpa said. "There are only four in existence!" I gasped.
If Grandpa only had one...Then that meant....Kaiba has the other THREE! The White Dragon roared and fired an attack that destroyed Yami's Knight along with my Rocket Warrior. I screamed in pain as my Life Points were depleted. I fell to my due to my injuries. "Amari!!!!" Yami yelled, reaching out to me.
I panted heavily. "Yugi, I'm sorry..." I said as my Life Points reached zero. Yami shook his head. "Don't be...You dueled well, Amari. Never forget that," I nodded. "Just remember to kick this guy's butt in my place, Yugi!" I yelled. He nodded. "Count on it, Amari." I smiled, closed my eyes, and returned to Amari's locket.
(Amari's POV)
((AN:I'm gonna say some time passed in the duel, because I don't have enough battery on my laptop to write the whole story.))
I gasped as I saw my brother was losing to Kaiba. "Yugi!!!" I yelled. He was down to 900 Life Points! He had to think of something, and FAST! Kaiba already had two Blue Eyes on his field, and if I was right from before, he had the third one too! "Why don't you just give up, Yugi?!" Kaiba said. "I won't give up! Grandpa is counting on me! And I promised Amari I'd win!" I smiled and clutched my newly repaired locked closer to me. "Big brother..." I said softly.
"Swords of Revealing Light!!!!" my brother yelled. "It stops all monsters on the field for three turns!" The swords impaled both of Kaiba's Blue Eyes White Dragons, and I smiled. "Yeah!!!! Teach him a lesson in the Heart of the Cards, Yugi! Show him what true dueling strength REALLY is!!!" I yelled encouragingly.
I watched as Yugi just stood there. "Yugi...Now's your chance...Do something!" I said. "Quit stalling!" Kaiba yelled. "Or you forfeit the match!" Yugi smiled. "I never forfeit!" Then, he gasped as he drew another card. What's he planning? I thought. Does Grandpa have some special cards I know nothing about?
I watched the duel closely, not wanting to miss a single second of it. I watched as the battle raged on. Kaiba summoned Judge Man and defeated Yugi's face-down monster. Yugi summoned his Dark Magician and attacked Judge Man, lowering Kaiba's Life Points to 1,000.
Yugi could still turn this around! He could still win this! And with Grandpa's deck, he will! I know it! My joy was short-lived. Kaiba drew a third Blue Eyes White Dragon, putting a wrench in my brother's strategy. No! If that monster attacks Dark Magician, Yugi will lose more points! He can't afford to! Not now! Not when he's so CLOSE! I thought.
The attack landed with full-force. My brother groaned as he took more damage. "No, Yugi!!!" I yelled. He smiled. "Don't worry, Amari..." he said. "I can still win this." I nodded, believing in my brother. Even if he only has 300 Life Points left, he can still do this! He's beaten me before when he was only at 200! This wasn't any different! Kaiba smirked. "How's your faith now, Yugi? On my next turn, all three of my Blue Eyes are free to attack! This game's OVER no matter what card you draw!" he yelled.
I shook my head. "Don't listen to him, Yugi!!!! You can still win this! Just believe in the Heart of the Cards! Like Grandpa said!" I yelled. Kaiba growled. "I've heard ENOUGH OUT OF YOU!!!!!!!!!" he yelled, sending a blast at me. I screamed as my head hit the wall of the seats where Joey and I sat. Yugi screaming my name was all I heard.
((Yugi's POV))
"Amari!!!" I yelled as my sister was knocked into the wall. No response came. She was out cold. Kaiba laughed. "Your sister is just as weak as your grandfather!!!!" he yelled. I growled. "That DOES it, Kaiba!!!" I yelled angrily. "You can break my spirit, attack me, hurt me, and defeat me in a duel! But for the love of Ra (He's Egyptian, so I'm saying it like this.)...DON'T TOUCH MY SISTER!!!!!!" Kaiba smirked. "Enough of this! Draw your last pathetic card, so I can end this duel!" he said.
I smiled. "My Grandpa's deck HAS NO pathetic cards, Kaiba!" I said. "But it does contain...The unstoppable Exodia!" Kaiba gasped. "Impossible!!!" With all five cards, I summoned Exodia and won the duel. "Alright Yugi!!!" Joey yelled. "You play only for power, Kaiba. And that's why you lost," I said. "But if you put your heart in the game, there's nothing you can't do!" Kaiba stood on his game area, shaking and asking himself how he could be beaten by me.
"Kaiba," I said. "If you truly want to know...OPEN YOUR MIND!!!!" I thrust my hand out and a light shined, returning Kaiba's eyes to their normal state. "There Kaiba...Maybe now you will begin to see," I said.
-Later-
I smiled as my sister came to. "Hey, Amari...How are you feeling?" She smiled. "I'm fine...Judging by your smile though, I'd say you beat Kaiba!" I nodded. "So grandpa's okay now?" she asked. I nodded. "Amari..." I said. "Yes, big brother?" she asked. "I'm sorry you were hurt today," I said. She smiled. "Don't worry about it Yugi! I'd do it again if it meant raising your spirits!" I smiled. My sister was so strong. Soon, she'd be a very powerful duelist. Even more powerful that the champions.
You've got a long way to go, Amari, I thought, smiling. But with determination and believing in the Heart of the Cards...You'll always win, no matter what the opponent.
To be continued..
