Death Never Forgives Demons
~~💔~~
Sans sat lazily at his post, resting his tired skull in his arms. Then, he heard the soft sound of stomping, and soon caught sight of his brother.
"Heya Paps." Sans called, giving his brother a small wave. Papyrus looked over at him, then walked over.
"SANS. I WAS MEANING TO ASK YOU THIS BEFORE, BUT...WHY WERE YOU WEARING ALL BLACK BEFORE?"
Sans paused, then peered up at his looming brother. "Oh, That's just Sans."
Papyrus gave him a confused stare. "SANS? DON'T YOU MEAN YOURSELF?"
Sans shook his skull, blinking some sleep from his eye sockets. "No, I mean, there is another guy which looks like me...His name is Sans too. Isn't that weird? We both have the same name...Anyway, we met after you talked to the human. He's a pretty nice guy."
Papyrus shuffled a little, glancing away from his lazy brother for a moment, then looking right back at him. "HUMAN...? THERE WAS A HUMAN HERE? LAZY BONES, WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME BEFORE!"
Sans met his brother's confused gaze with his own puzzled eyes. "What?"
"GOSH BROTHER, WHERE DID THEY GO? I MUST CAPTURE THEM! SO I COULD BE A PART OF THE ROYAL GUARD!!!" His brother paced back and forth in front of the smaller skeleton, obviously excited to meet a human.
"Uh...That way." Sans' bony finger pointed down the snowy path, making Papyrus smile waver.
"BUT...I JUST CAME FROM THERE! SANS, STOP JOKING AROUND WITH ME!"
Clueless on how to satisfy his brother, Sans decided to point in the opposite direction. "There. Good luck, Bro."
Papyrus straightened, checked his gear, then proceeded down the direction. Before he completely left, Sans mumbled a small
"And be careful".
~~💀~~
Death floated by the lush treetops, watching the human trudge down the path below him. It was odd. Death already remembered the human traveling down this path before, but they seem to be doing it again. His curiosity took control of his being once again, as he descended toward them. Death then floated next to them, observing their movements. The human turned their head, looking around the area for a moment, then continuing onward.
It appeared that they couldn't see him, which was counted as normal.
However, that one skeleton he met a while ago...He seemed to see him just fine. Very...Interesting...
"Um...excuse me...?"
Death peered up at the crimson red ghost. It looked exactly identical to the human it appeared to be following.
"M-May I ask who you are...?"
He grew quiet for a few moments, before opening his mouth. "May I ask who you are first?"
The ghost seemed to be surprised at the flipped question, but quietly responded. "I'm Frisk."
Death stopped trailing the human, reaching into his cloak. Curious, the ghost stayed with him, drifting silently near him. Then, he pulled out a small handbook with a dark leather cover and a latch holding the pages together, which was adorned with a small raven skull. Using his magic, Death opened the book briskly, flipping through the pages at an inhuman speed. He then grasped the book, skimming through the names.
"Fred...Freddy...Freya...No Frisk..." He peered over at Frisk. "You're not in my book...so...how are you not in limbo?"
Frisk tilted their head to the side, strands of hair covering their puzzled face. "Um...Well...I don't think you would understand..." They whispered, their voice echoing through the dark forest. Death began to drift after the human, Frisk once again trailing with him.
"OH MY GOD! IS THAT..."
The human suddenly stopped, staring at...the taller skeleton. They appeared to be surprised, but quickly smiled at the monster.
"A human? Yes. I am indeed a hu-"
They weren't able to finish their statement, because the skeleton suddenly picked them up and started to dash off with them. Death managed to keep up with the two, though Frisk was facing difficulty.
~~💔~~
"SANS! SANS!!! I DID IT!"
Sans' gaze tore away from the random dog which was at his post. Apparently, the dog had managed to sneak a few hot dogs and cats away from his station.
"Hold on bro, I'm trying to deal with this thief."
"NEVER MIND THAT BROTHER, LOOK! I'VE CAUGHT A HUMAN!"
Sans immediately shot up from his sentry station, hitting his skull against the top of the post. He groaned, rubbing his head. "Paps, I don't think you should be near that thing."
"WHY SHOULDN'T I BE? I AM A SENTRY! I CAPTURE HUMANS!"
He peeked over at Papyrus and the human in his arms. "They are dangerous, alright? Just let them go. You can capture them with your puzzles along the way."
Papyrus peered down at the human, then frowned. "WELL...ARE YOU SU-"
"Are you afraid of me, Sans?"
Sans' gaze traveled from Papyrus' bony face to Chara's smug one.
"Are you AFRAID that I will just kill your brother again? IS THAT IT? WOW, SUCH A GOOD BROTHER YOU ARE!" They laughed, tightly keeping a hold of Papyrus' arms.
"YOU KNOW, YOU CAN ALWAYS SAVE HIM. BUT, NO! YOU'RE TOO LAZY AND SCARED. SCARED THAT HE WILL FIND OUT THE TRUTH BEHIND YOUR DISGUSTING FACADE!" Chara jumped out of Papyrus' hold, taking him with them.
"TELL ME, SANS. WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT TO YOU? HIS LIFE...OR HIS PURITY? YOU DECIDE, SANS." Chara snaked their hand into their pocket, grabbing their weapon of choice. A knife. They then held it to Papyrus' bony neck, their smile becoming twisted. Papyrus gave his brother a frightened stare. Sans began to shake.
"....I-I...."
Chara swung their knife around, giggling maliciously. The ruby red eyes of Chara gleamed, never leaving Sans.
He was frozen.
He couldn't move.
What was he going to do?
~~💀~~
Frisk and Death stood next to Sans, watching the whole event unfold.
"So...I believe that is your friend?" he asked, pointing a finger at the human.
Frisk nodded their head. "They once were. When I was traveling through the underground, Chara was the one to guide me. However, they became...disturbed...over time. After some regretful actions I committed, I was tossed aside, Chara claiming my body as their own."
Death processed the story, absorbing every detail that Frisk had to offer. "Hm... Alright then. Also, this 'Determination' and 'Resets' I continue to hear. What are these?" Frisk flew through Sans, making him shiver. They approached him, an uncertain look in their eyes.
"I am not sure...but...Determination is substance which enables someone to persist after death. Resets are complicated...they basically are what they sound like. Resets start over a world, erasing the actions of the user and memories of any which face it ."
Death nodded, now understanding everything he observed in the last few resets. "I see..."
Suddenly, Sans shot up from the station, gliding over the counter swiftly and quickly grabbing the child by their neck. They dropped their knife, gasping for air. Sans glared at them harshly.
" I think I will choose both, kid."
~~💔~~
Sans then glanced over at Papyrus.
"Papyrus, I need you to call Undyne right now."
"BUT SANS-"
"PAPYRUS. I CAN'T HOLD THEM FOR LONG."
Papyrus was taken aback by his tone, but quickly flipping out his phone and began to dial a number.
Soon, faint footsteps could be heard in the distance, hurriedly thudding against the earth. He looked back at the kid, smirking.
"I guess this is checkmate for me, Megalomaniac."
The kid managed a dirty grin. "A-Are you sure about that, Sans?"
...
...
...
~~💀~~
The child was rubbing their neck, inhaling large amounts of oxygen. Papyrus was standing still, horrified. Crimson red dripped from their weapon, trailing from the gigantic gash in Sans' chest. He was coughing up blood, unable to stop the bleeding.
"SANS-"
Death's breathing hitched.
Papyrus...
The human didn't hesitate. They had twirled around to Sans' brother, too fast for his reaction.
Then...
...
Death couldn't put the next moments into words.
He couldn't.
Even though he knew that the skeleton he just saw was not his brother, his blood began to boil.
Even though he already knew that his actual brother was dead, his hands clenched into fists.
Despite knowing that he could never see his loved one again, his magic was blazing from his eye socket.
He wasn't angry.
No.
