Work Text:
“Give us back our hero you wicked demon!” A knight, an adventurer, and a mage shouted at the vile and wretched Demon King.
Kim Dokja, the Demon King in this world, sighed dramatically. “That’s so cliche, really just so utterly banal. You lot couldn’t think of something more interesting to say? This doesn’t make a good story at all, right Joonghyuk?” Kim Dokja asked, pouting cutely as he gazed up at his handsome body guard dressed in all black armor.
“Agreed my lord.” Joonghyuk answered succinctly, his eyes never wavering from the hostile intruders who had dared to step foot into his master’s castle with the intent to do his beloved harm.
“We know you’ve brainwashed him with your corrupting powers. Yoo Joonghyuk! We’ve come to free you of the Demon King’s spell so that we can slay the bastard and purge him from this world once and for hall.” The mage shouted.
Kim Dokja burst into a fit of hysterical laughter, as if he had just heard the most hilarious joke. “Brain washed him? This isn’t some incubus or parasite take-over plot. I don’t even have the power to do that.”
“Liar!” The three intruders screamed. “He would never follow you otherwise.”
Kim Dokja’s humorous smile slipped into something more dangerous, his pointed canines on display, looking like a cat toying with its prey. Then he turned to look up at Joonghyuk, his gaze switching to something more loving although still maintaing some of his wicked delight. Dokja reached up a hand and Joonghyuk, ever the obedient mad dog, leaned down into his master’s touch so that his master could caress his face.
The group of intruders looked on in horror as their hero appeared to greatly enjoy the touch of the Demon King.
“Yoo Joonghyuk,” Kim Dokja sweetly purred, “tell them exactly how you came to my side.”
“As you wish, master.”
In this universe, Yoo Joonghyuk had been born as a low ranking commoner but through hard work, dedication, and innate natural talent with a sword, he worked his way up to becoming a heroic knight known throughout the land for slaying the horned dragon that had attacked the Cross Kingdom’s capital city.
He was chosen by the king, along with the head of the imperial knights, a famed adventurer, and mage from the Magicians Tower, to go and slay the Demon King that had long been a scourge on their lands.
And Yoo Joonghyuk—noble, strong and brave, had every intention of slaying the Demon King—at least that was until he met him.
The high ranking demons that had been sent to fight them had been incredibly strong with the company barely making it through the fight. Joonghyuk was the only one to make it out of the last battle unharmed, and at that point he had already begun to think of his questing party as dead weight: they couldnt keep up with his skill and strength, and were holding him back from progressing further. He told them that he alone would go and face the Demon King and that they should return to the kingdom to treat their wounds and recover.
They thought that his actions were born out of a noble sense of care and duty, but in truth, he just didn’t want to deal their uselessness anymore.
Upon approaching the castle, no armed soldiers came to greet him with steel. Upon entering the castle no guards or attendants barred his way. Matter of fact, no one appeared to be in the castle at all, as if they had all been sent away. The only thing that was there, was a strange pull guiding him through the castle. No one else was here but he was absolutely sure that Demon King was.
Joonghyuk approached two grand and ornately decorated doors, which he fully assumed to be the entrance to the castle’s throne room. He threw the massive doors open—the weight of their heavy metal and wood no match for his brute strength—with the single minded determination to slay the Demon King.
But then he immediately faltered the moment his eyes landed on the being sitting confidently on the throne.
All the depictions of the Demon King had depicted him as a gastly beast, and Joonghyuk couldn’t believe how grotesquely wrong , those depictions were when the being before him couldn’t be described as anything less than ethereally beautiful. The tip of Joonghyuk’s sword lowered to the ground as he stared helpless and awestruck beneath the starry captivating gaze of the Demon King.
The Demon King laughed mirthfully, in a light and airy sort of way that was simultaneously soaked in amused condescension. “Well, Hero Yoo Joonghyuk, I had been told you were quite a handsome and regal man, but all I see before me is a stupidly gaping sunfish that’s come to die.”
It was the sound of his name falling from those red lips, and that stupid nickname(that he both loved and hated) that brought forth the memories of his past lives.
Being a Demon King, had always suited Kim Dokja well; his horns and black wings added a dangerous and seductive quality to his subtle beauty.
Joonghyuk could never hope to win against his star’s silver tongue when it came to insulting banter, so he had to go with his usual tactic of unpredictability to unnerve Kim Dokja. “I only gape because I am in awe of your beauty. I’ve fallen in love with you at first sight.”
Technically it wasn’t really at first sight, but it was easier to just say that than getting Kim Dokja, who saw Joonghyuk as an enemy, to believe that they shared a multitude of past lives together.
Just as Joonghyuk predicted, Kim Dokja had not been expecting to hear such words from the Cross Kingdom’s hero. Now it was Dokja’s turn to gaze in shock, taken aback at such an absurd declaration. “What ludicrous nonsense—don’t tell me you’re going to seduce me in order to kill me? That’s such a contrived trope, I’d rather you just clichély tell me that you’ve come to kill me, despite that clearly having been your goal.” He explained gesturing to Joonghyuk’s sword.
“Seduce yes, kill no, how could I possibly wish to harm you when I have fallen in love with you.” Joonghyuk responded with an enamored gaze. Dokja’s wings twitched and flapped agitatedly, the action causing Joonghyuk to smirk playfully.
That smirk must have pissed Kim Dokja off, because in the blink of eye, Dokja vanished from the throne, reappearing in front of Joonghyuk with rage in his eyes, his black feathered wings flared, and his sword pointed at Joonghyuk’s neck.
Joonghyuk only continued to stare lovingly at the Demon King, his conviction of love not wavering even with a sharp sword pointed at his throat. “Kill me if that is what you wish my love.” He truly meant those words too.
Dokja’s left eye twitched in irritation. Joonghyuk was clearly getting under his skin. After a long pause, Dokja finally stepped back and pulled his sword away from Joonghyuk’s throat. “Killing you would be a waste of such a pretty face.” He sheathed his sword and looked up at Joonghyuk with renewed boredom. “Very well, let’s play out this ridiculous plot. I’ll keep you by my side as my paramour. I’ll even take you on dates, if you so wish.” Dokja announced patronizingly.
“As you wish my love.” Joonghyuk responded, with utmost sincerity.
Dokja frowned at those words, clearly having hoped that relegating a heroic man such as Joonghyuk to the Demon King‘s paramour, would be too demeaning for Joonghyuk’s pride to take.
And so their relationship began anew in this life. Dokja, who was substantially stronger than Joonghyuk in this life, felt no worry about keeping such a dangerous man at his side. He took Joonghyuk on dates and initiated skinship all in an attempt to force Joonghyuk to reveal his true murderous intentions. But of course to his star’s disappointment, Joonghyuk always looked pleased at any sort of affection that he received from his love.
This fake courtship, went on for months, before Dokja finally had enough. He commanded Joonghyuk to swear an eternal oath to him, which would mean that he could never bring harm to Dokja whether through his own actions or inciting someone else, fully believing that Joonghyuk—the Cross Kingdom’s ultimate hero—would never swear such an oath.
Kim Dokja was of course proven wrong when Joonghyuk swore the oath with emphatic will and affection.
From that point on, Kim Dokja’s guarded walls began to truly lower, allowing their relationship to blossom. Joonghyuk, as always, used his handsome protagonist face as a weapon to seduce Dokja. Given that Dokja was usually guarded and wary of people, Joonghyuk felt no guilt about using his good looks that perfectly matched Dokja’s tastes to burrow his way into Dokja’s life and heart. They grew truly close, now that there was no longer a pretense of fake dating, and what started off as just fulfilling companionship became romantic in nature(just as Joonghyuk knew it would)
Soon it was know all across the Devil Kingdom, that their lord had taken a lover—a human lover , to be precise. However, any thoughts that the demons may have had regarding this were never spoken aloud since Demon King Kim Dokja had declared that if anyone so much as dared to disrespect his paramour, then he’d kill then himself.
The gossip of the Demon King’s lover became so wide spread that it even reached the ears of the citizens of the Sol Kingdom. In horror at the thought of their hero being brainwashed and seduced by the Demon King, the kingdom sent the rest of Joonghyuk’s party to go and retrieve him. Which was how they found themselves in the throne room of the Demon King being told that Joonghyuk had defected and become the lover of the Demon King of his own free will.
“Y-you’re l-lying.” The mage stuttered out, her own voice giving away the lack of confidence in her own words.
Kim Dokja sighed out loud, utterly bored with the humans standing before him. He didn’t like bad cliches. “I’ll give you a choice: leave here right now and I won’t kill you; or stay, and Joonghyuk here will kill you himself.”
Joonghyuk nodded confirming his king’s words.
Contrary to the Sol Kingdom’s depictions of him, Kim Dokja was actually a merciful king: partly because he didn’t like killing people who had not personally wronged him and partly because he was lazy. So he gave the hero’s party a choice to save their pathetic lives. But in the end they rejected that mercy, and instead were galvanized by Dokja’s words to fight.
With a wave of Dokja’s hand, Joonghyuk marched forward, grunting out a response to his King’s request for Joonghyuk not to get any blood on himself.
Without a single modicum of remorse, Joonghyuk slaughtered his former comrades and friends with smooth but deadly strokes of his sword, ensuring with each slicing motion that the blood splattered away from his form.
It was brutal and magnificent, and Dokja watched the gracefullness of Joonghyuk’s form with a gleeful smile, barely even paying attention to the terrified screams and blood and sinew that were splattering about, choosing to instead admire Joonghyuk’s fine and well-defined muscles as he moved.
After regressing so much, secretive plotters morals had been mostly non-existent, and the false third turn Joonghyuk, after experiencing the tragedy of the second round, had grey morals at best. With both of their souls combined, and a couple hundred more lifetimes under their belts, Yoo Joonghyuk’s morals were solely aligned to his own interest: Kim Dokja. No one else mattered.
With the deed finished, and the anguished screams finally silenced, Joonghyuk returned back to his star’s side.
“Not a single drop of blood.” Dokja commented, quite pleased that Joonghyuk had followed his orders so well.
Once the oath was completed, Dokja seldom ordered Joonghyuk to do anything, preferring Joonghyuk to act out of his own free will. So when he did place a command, Joonghyuk eagerly followed every word, his actions displaying his loyalty and devotion.
Dokja reached up his arms and ordered: “Now pick me up and take me back to bed—I can’t walk in this state. I don’t why we couldn’t have just dealt with them at a later time.” He finished, whining petulantly, while glaring at Joonghyuk’s smirk and obsessed gaze.
Joonghyuk reached down and ran his fingers along the many pink, red, and purple bruises lining the column of Dokja’s pale slender neck. “Because I wanted them to see.” He answered succinctly while sweeping Dokja up into his arms.
Joonghyuk admired the distinct white liquid pooling on the throne where Dokja had been sitting.
Dokja leaned his head against Joonghyuk’s chest, always happy to be carried by and doted on by his lover. “You know it’s kind of pointless to demonstrate such possessiveness when youre just going to kill the person.”
“I beg to differ. It was important to me that in their final moments they understood that there was no hope of ever laying a hand on what is mine.”
The bodies of the hero’s party were devoured by the demon guards in the throne room. Most demons didn’t eat human flesh, despite the stereotype that all of them hungered for human meat but those particular guards—a pair of shark teethed ghouls—took every chance they could to eat humans. Dokja found it distasteful, but it made the clean up of his throne room quick and efficient.
While the ghouls had their feast, Joonghyuk and Dokja returned to their bed chambers to pick up where they had left off.
