Day 4: Spell

4:57.

Peter mumbled. Those bastards got some nerves leaving him hanging here. Sipping his pumpkin spice latte, he sworn he would give them hell the moment they reached this table. Suddenly, a hand he felt brushed over his shoulder.

"Well, it's about time you nutsacks show u-" he said as he turned around, expected to see his friends.

Their eyes touched. The girl was looking quite surprised, hearing him say such words. Pete felt his face heat up as he eyed another direction. The female in front of him is a beauty. Her eyes were the same color as the clear blue sky. Wavy hair dyed purple and her smile, bright as the morning light. She frowned before hesitantly asked him.

"Hi, sorry to bother you, since I didn't know you were expecting companies. Anyway, can I borrow you a dollar? My friend and I don't have changes and so did the cashier so I thought I could ask someone for it."

"Oh, I actually do have a dollar right here. Here you go!" Peter gave her the dollar bill "I'm Peter by the way."

"I'm Lindsey. Pleasure to meet you! Thank you for helping us, Peter!" Lindsey shook hands with him

"You're welcome! Say, do you want to... you know... get coffee sometimes?"

Peter scratched behind his neck awkwardly. He knew it was risky but he had to ask her out, who know he might get a shot.

"I'm not sure. But hey, if we ever meet again, coffee's on me! See ya!" Lindsey waved at me before leaving with her friend.

'So pretty' Peter hummed as he seated on his spot and enjoyed his latte.

A hand smacked his back.

"OUCH! What the hell!?" Peter yelped

"Hey buddy, we're here!" The gang greeted him as they took seat next to him.

"It's about time. What took you guys so long to move your butt here?" Peter sulked.

"Just a tiny problem. Nothing to worry about." Mike chirped

"Tiny !? Yeah right, Mr. I-was-dumped-by-Julia-two-hours-ago!" Fred laughed from behind Peter.

"Shut your mouth, dude! Not cool!" Mike embarrassed

Peter got bored with the conversation between the two males, his mind drifted to an image of a certain girl. He wondered why an angel like her would choose him to ask for help. His heart fluttered at the thought of her and his mind went wild. 'Could she be the one? Did he make a good impression? Will she go on a date with me? When can I see her again? Soon I hope.'

" –ou so sure that she was a witch? She was just a hot girl, okay!" Mike protested

"Wait, what are you guys talking about? Witch? Really?" Peter raised his eyebrow.

"It's real, Pete. Julia Patterson is a witch. She has been using dark magic to seduce others for her personal gains." Fred looked serious.

"Dude, this joke is a bit outta hands. Julia isn't a witch or anything like that. Magic doesn't exist, Fred."

"Look, there have been rumors around about some girls using spells and incantation to seduce others into doing things for them. It even became a severe warning after a murder occurred."

"Huh, I've never heard anything like that, dude. Are you certain that your source is trustworthy?" Mike leered skeptically.

"Mike, my dad's in the police department. So of course the news was obviously accurate. I warned you about this so you guys would be more cautious and not ending up like the poor dude in the murder."

"What happened to him?"

"The guy had a girlfriend who got herself involved with dark magic of seduction. She lured a guy in and cheated on her boyfriend. Eventually, her boyfriend found out and threatened to kill her for cheating on him. But the other guy acted first and stabbed him multiple times, leaving him dead on the floor." Fred shook his head and drank his Earl Gray.

"So you saying that the whole situation was just involved a girl cheating, being found out and a duel for girl happened." Mike concluded

"God, you're an idiot Mike. You didn't get the point at all." Fred sighed

"But I gotta agree with Mike here, there wasn't anything abnormal about that case." Peter shrugged.

"The woman in the case bewitched the man she's cheating with. My dad literally found a bunch of stuff related to voodoo and shit like that" exclaimed Fred.

"If by voodoo you mean their make-up kit then yeah, that shit is straight up magic. Turn one person into another with just brushes" Mike snickered

"Whatever. Don't come out crying in the corner when Julia friendzone you again."

And the two continued their earlier fight. Peter started to think if Fred was right. Not that he don't believe in magic but creepy and unexplained situation like Fred told them happened a lot in his town. Peter shuddered. And Lindsey. He's sure she's not a witch. They've just met and she's no more than a nice girl looking for help. And beside, what could happen to him for giving a girl a dollar bill. Probably nothing to worry himself over it. With that, Peter joined in the conversation and left the whole thing behind. He's sure he can worry later when it comes, or if it came.

*****************************************

In the flickering light of candles, a chant is called.

"I use this money to buy what can't be bought or sold. Let God's servant Peter who gave me this money give me his heart upon receiving the money back. Let him have no rest until he marries me. Let the money burn his pockets until he puts a wedding ring on my finger. Let him never be happy with a woman until he kissed my lips on the altar. Amen."

The girl went outside after finishing the ceremony. She went downstairs to get a cup of water as she met up with her friend.

"I still don't get it why it has to be that boy, Becky, there are lots more to offer for you, you know." A pair of eyes looked questionably.

"I know Lindsey. I fell in love with that boy long ago, since we were small, but all he's seen me was good friend, best friend even. I had no choice." Becky said sadly

"Well, can't you just go up to him and ask him out normally?" Lindsey patted her friend for comfort

"He turned me down every time. I'll make sure this time, he can't turn me down. He'll fall in love for sure" Becky determined

Lindsey smiled at her friend before sliding the news on the phone.

'Well, maybe not with you, my dear friend."
