June bleeds like a strawberry being crushed in the palm of your hand. June bleeds like a bite mark in the nape of your neck. June Moretti/June Bug/ Juney/ Junes bleeds like a human. A human so blissfully aware of the horrors of the world that surrounded people day in and day out. She understood details of those horrors better than anyone and anything that had ever lived before her.

Before her mother, who died when she was just a child. Before her father, who remarried the secretary that he had been having an affair with since before her mother died. Before she, herself, ran away at the age of sixteen with nowhere to go but ran anyway. Her feet had long since blistered and her hunger began to grow into deliriousness when Monica Long found her with her grandfather. June was at a rest stop in Livingston, Montana, lying down on a wooden bench that left splinters digging into her back but it was the first bit of sleep she had gotten in days.

Being the girl that Monica was, so full of love and joy it radiated off of her, she begged her grandfather to come and check on the girl who was about her age. That night changed everything for the Moretti girl. A roof lodged its way over her head, her heart opened up for complete strangers that she grew to call her family, years later. June was eternally grateful for Monica and her grandfather.

More so when the Long girl began dating Kayce Dutton, fell pregnant and married the boy. She watched them fall in love slowly and romantically, something she never thought she wished for herself. The Duttons were powerful people and owned more lands than they could count, they were more than just rich. So they were a secret but neither of them minded.

     But June was grateful for Monica in another way because it led her right into the arms of Kayce's older brother, Boone Dutton.

Boone/ Boo (to Juney) / Dutton was a man who never wanted for anything. He had everything handed to him on a silver platter and never said thank you. He was arrogant and sometimes cocky but he was also kind hearted and cared more about what people thought of him than he let himself admit. His father was a proud man, John Dutton, he had things the way he wanted them and he'd shun you away if you did anything to disappoint him then pull you back in when he wanted something from you.

June wasn't a distraction, she wasn't revenge. He was just a man who fell in love with a woman he wasn't supposed to fall in love with. And it came to bite them in the ass when his father found them out — the same night he found Kayce and Monica out. The latter's had it somewhat easier, Monica got pregnant and instead of doing what his father told him to do and get her to have an abortion, Kayce married her. John thought the marriage would be detrimental to the family name and to the ranch, but nobody even really cared.

So June didn't understand why Boone left her as soon as his father told him so. Fingertips glossed over the cold bedside where his body used to lay. Skin burned from the distant memory of his touch. Darkness clouded over her life and left her bitter and miserable. And the irony of the whole thing was that they lived in the same town, so stolen moments went from being stolen glances and touches to lingering stares and longing, withholding brushes of touch or unspoken words.

Bitterness dampened her mood every time she saw him. The burning reminder lingered in June's mind...

June was the runaway and yet Boone was the one who ran away and never looked back.
