Ira knows more
It was not unknown to know more thought Jan as he lounged in his recliner made of materials not known to humans. This material could save many problem of the world as it attracted dust and dirt keeping rooms sparkling clean. There was a time, Jan had been repulsed by the dirt on earth often manmade. Here the solution had to come as no inhabitant could clean star storm dust and other reactionary particles by hand. The lounger did that and sent them inside its memory to segregate. These were then taken for testing when new particles were found. This was how they had known their beloved star system was dying by clashing together. The balance of the star particles were lost and it showcased only one clear majority. Sirius 2 was gaining strength and speed towards its own demise. Yet there was a time Sirius 2 was just one of the stars of the twin star system.
When Jan had first agreed to visit the Earth his prime motive was to bring people here to train and support his star's defenses. That idea had fallen through. Humans thought, they opined, they fought, they disagreed. Unlike the people of Sirius, they did not follow any one voice. Ira had stood out like a sore thumb. Listening to him, hating his views but still aligning to his wishes. She came back to an Office that did not celebrate her knowledge. She went back to a home that cheated her. She was evidently better outside of it, even if somewhere the plan had changed for her to become the mother of the children of Sirius.
As if the thought disturbed the deep sleep that he had induced of Ira. She stirred and woke up and came running out possibly to confirm the reality. The look at him was filled with surprise and a tinge of reluctance to face the facts. Jan turned and looked at Ira fully. She looked well, he offered food silently and she sat down opposite to him and started munching. Jan waved his hand at the monitor turning the roof into a light telescope that gave the feeling of star travel. She looked entranced. He asked her mind < After all this will earth look a little pale ?>
He expected no answers but he got one emphatic <Yes.. it will.. > in his mind. He looked up sharply and noticed Ira was paused in midbite. The food was on the spoon as she pondered over her instinctively answer .. from her mind. Jan could feel her thoughts, see shapes of her emotions. He knew they called it a mystical term here.. Neeneetam. This term had no immediate meaning but in their forgotten mother language it would have meant I ,I, in you. May be he was in Ira as Ira was in him. It was not a comfortable feeling to accept that Ira was starting to understand how unique she was or how much Jan needed her.
But he felt her poke into his mind. Instead of raising defenses or pushing her out, he relaxed closed his eyes and imagined himself and Ira with fifty children. Ira paused and almost stumbled out and then paused and took a look again. The status quo went on for sometime, before she reluctantly withdrew and came closer to Jan.
Forgotten was her first love the magical skies, forgotten was everything but her inquisitiveness. With no apparent fear or shock, she asked, "Jan.. do you want to have kids with me in this plant.."
There was a rage and a shock. Jan accepted that the emotions he could not detect was present just hidden from him.
"And are you believing a human can have fifty children ? "
He still relaxed and gazed at her with no words, before saying, "We know in your epic Mahabharat, the queen had 101 children.."
"Jan .. I am a scientist. I can be a biologist too.. I can learn about Buk Buks. But I can not be used as a breeder of fifty children. I wont even have one. "
Suddenly Aditya 5 started to shake as if in response to her words.
Jan pulled her close and she landed on his chest. He flung his hand on her back and held her close and captire. Into her ear he whispered in a hard voice, "Stay quiet Ira. This planet listens and it is fighting for survival. Do not speak negatives, else the bukbuks you love may just devour you for a chance at survival."
Then he spoke in a normal voice, " Ira, no one physically carries babies in this planet. Once they are conceived, they are moved into the safest space of these planets. They are nurtured and brought up. Yes, fifty children is a large number ..but may be the one will allow us to expand and clone.. ? You favorite star system would not survive without them though."
<If she is unwilling, teach her a lesson by having one with Janat..> whispered a voice who had always hated Janat. May be he had loved Sirius and its survival mode. It was not a decision he wanted to ever take. But if not Ira, it would have to be Janat he knew, even as his body reacted to that thought.
<You won't have to do anything. Just give the instruction and we would do the rest. Let Ira take time to decide. We can do this, prior to Janat's movement. >
Ira looked at the roof as it changed and moved. She pushed away his hands and stood up. In her mind she remembered her old boyfriend, who had broken up and then he and her cousin were pregnant. She remembered that her sister-in-law was possibly pregnant too. But she could not recall. But unlike all others she had never thought of having children, beyond the basic concept of someday. May be her childhood taught her how children needed parents and should not be left alone.
She looked at Jan, who was distracted. Suddenly she knew. If not her, he would have the children with someone else. It bothered her and not in a good way. But it did not bother her enough to agree to the children plan. Her attraction, her subdued feelings may run deep for Jan and Sirius, but she could not get herself to imagine the fate of being a mother of a star. Let her be the biologist while others became mothers. She would save the flora and fauna on this planet before imagining any other step for herself.
The shakes had stopped. As if they guessed her thoughts of care. She still laid on Jan's chest and the expression on his face was filled with disgust. But she knew this disgust was not towards her. She knew very little to understand and ask, why did other people from the planet not have children. But then the fact that she knew, that she felt , that she heard more than what was required, was enough for now.
