Rani and Rohim

Rani slept in Rohim's apartment. The night turned darker and the ancient star system of the Big Dipper glowed on the screen of Rohim's. But he stayed in deep chantings, accepting the punishment of bringing anyone into this space without preparation.

But after a night the rage of the star system was calm. Rani still slept. In the midst of all that happened, Rohim felt some things will change. He tried to awaken Rani by the usual manner, failing which he used deep words that called her to awake from inside. She woke up suddenly , staring at his face, while panting for breath. Rohim assured her, "All is well Rani. You were in an accident. I saved you , we went to the hospital and now we are home. Have the medicine and sleep." She had the medicine while mumbling about where she was but then dozed off into a tired sleep. This was the normal one, not the induced one.

It always would remain a surprise to the star system that the Rohim they imagined would bring back Jessica, fell for Rani. They however acknowledged the miraculous ness also. Afterall love has found Rohim and Rani, though they have not acknowledged. But that was in itself, rare and pure.

Rohim's grandfather was his idol, one he possibly held above all the intelligence and wisdom of the stars. The wise system sparkled accepting the human bonds and sacrifice had often moved them too through generations. Their secret heavily guarded considered Rohim transfer as a failure. They started planning for one more. When one of the Wise ones suggested, "How about the child of Jan and Ira ? "

All conversations paused. Back in earth , Rohim read their conversation as he had planted a bug in their systems prior to being disintegrated in transmuted to earth inside of a mother's womb that killed her original embryo and replaced it will an apparent clone but just took the original embryo's physical features.

Rohim smiled bitterly. The betrayal often happened at home. May be not a betrayal as he knew he would not really return back. But he believed his birth would have some impact beyond bonding with the famous Jessica and ensuring her soul's return to his star system. Quietly Rohim traced the patterns on Rani's face. Everyone may consider her as ordinary but for the first time when he had been liked for himself, and not his potential or looks, his insides had been lit up. Such lighting up only happened through deep medication in his planets.

Looking at the woman who had changed the immediate course of the inter stellar competition of establishing contact with the most beautiful planet of the universe, he smiled. What was the aim of any stellar system was often clear, like Sirius wanted to save themselves, thrive and expand. But the aim of his stellar systems remained shrouded in mysteries and assumptions.  It was said only the seven great sages knew of the same. Yet they no longer resided there, their very essence was often more profound in places on earth than in his stars. Their descendants , the new wise sages, took the practice forward. Yet it made Rohim often wonder at their decisions. Their small lifes ended before an impact could be made. The rebirth came often, but inundated with earlier birth memories. He was one of the rare beings who were considered a new soul and was not disturbed by older memories. He had not also got a timeline yet though he imagined it would be no longer than five years more.

Rani woke up in stages. From barely awake to fully awake took over an hour. Her clouded eyes recognised him immediately. She smiled silly and asked him if he was here for a long time, they had to end the older project.

Rohim chuckled, she thought that this was Office. But he nodded simply. She relaxed and then giggled. "You are even more handsome, up close."

Rohim held Rani's hand and asked, "Why don't you stay with this handsome person for some days. Why stay alone in this weird world."

A tear rolled down her eyes as she nodded simply. "Only a few days."

In his mind a voice said, "Only a few years is all she has." May be it was the rare kindness of his planet that gave him this advise. Travelling through a web of connectedness their travels defied any form of science. But it was infact the very core of the biology that he saw in the children's laboratories that gave the indication. A fertilised egg was planted into a pregnant woman. Often that caused the woman to lose the earlier fertilised egg and the new one persisted. They had long infiltrated into the medical practitioners. Rohim believed the travel of that fertilised cell happened on the back of a comet. Many came attached, some landed and were collected safely.

He calmed his mind and connected to Arundhati his star. She answered, "Do as you please. But be pure in your intension." He went around creating the home for Rani that he imagined Rani would want. Would her essence also travel back to the planet he called home for a rebirth. He believed yes. He stayed deep in thoughts, letting Rani rest.

When Rani got up suddenly and effortlessly opened the hidden door to his telescope room. Stunned he looked up at her. She looked at the array of stars on the screen and asked, "Rohim.. this is not earth right.. This focus.. this precision.. is not earthly. "

Then she turned and looked at him, "You are not from earth.." It was more a statement than a question. He felt all his ancestors, known and unknown suddenly turn and look at Rani. In their accumulated gaze, she glowed still in her quiet light.

Rohim closed the door moving her hand from her unresisting hand and stood staring at her.
