Chapter 1
Diana
I have always been a people pleaser. Ever since I was little, I have always found myself seeking validation from others. Especially when it came to my looks.
Spending hours doing my makeup in front of the mirror was an everyday routine for me. Dyeing my hair blonde, wearing whatever was in trend those days, getting a fake tan, eating salads to maintain a diet are some of the things I had to do to come off as 'beautiful' for some people. I did get complimented a lot on my looks.
But, after sometime I got labelled as 'trying too hard', 'fake', 'catfish', so what? If I didn't do those I would come off as ugly. After calling them out a few times I got labelled as the 'blonde bitch' of the school. The rude one. Just cause I defended myself. I decided to play that role. After all, that’s what they wanted, right?
I didn't care what people thought of me anymore. Well, at least I tried not to. If these things make me fake then I’m fake. At Least I am considered beautiful instead of ugly. When I looked at myself in front of the mirror I looked beautiful. But, It was too annoying when people bothered me. Especially instances like now.
"Where did you get your nails done? They look so cute." A girl whose name isn't worth mentioning asked me. While we were sitting in class waiting for our teacher to come.
"Nowhere you can afford. They are expensive." I smiled sweetly. Trying to be cheeky. She sulked in return. I must have hurt her feelings.
"What about your perfume? Which perfume did you use today? It smells so nice." The redhead said sniffing the air. Way too excited.
"Gucci Rush."
"I wish I had the money to buy it. It smells so feminine, it’s so popular, so it’s sold out like everywhere. I wish I had your hair, it's so pretty." She said that all in one breath. She is not even making any sense.
"I don't like my hair at all. Where did you dye your hair from?" Her eyes were twinkling.
Can she get out of my face?
"It's natural." I lied, annoyed by this conversation.
"Oh come on! Everyone knows it's not natural at all. There's no way it's natural. So where did you get it done from?"
She is getting on my nerves. If I ignored her, she would go bitching about me. If I get angry, she would still do the same. If I answer her politely, then she would keep bothering me. My life is so annoying. Fucking hell.
What am I thinking? I don't care what others think of me anymore. The thought makes me smirk.
"There's no way you can afford the place I go to anyway."
"I can still save up and try to go there." She examines a few strands of her hair between her fingers with disappointment written all over her face. It looks beautiful to me. I have always liked red hair.
"Listen May, your hair is already beautiful just as it is, so is your natural scent. You don't need to buy expensive stuff to make yourself look good. You are already beautiful enough."
Unlike me.
I can’t help but wish someone would tell me the same. I know, deep down I still care what others think of me. I may have fooled the whole school, but I haven’t managed to fool myself. I still like it when people compliment me which rarely happens nowadays.
She blinks at me a few times, taken aback by my words.
Then her smile fell, shocked that I was nice to her. She probably thought that I would get angry at her again. What can I say? I am feeling generous today. Clearing her throat, she starts again this time in a hushed voice. Changing the topic.
"Did you see him?" Her voice barely whispers.
"Who?" I try to raise an eyebrow but fail at it. I have never been able to raise one eyebrow. I should try wiki how.
"Kyle. My friend who is in the same class as him in English says the word 'hot' does not even do him justice. You should check him out. Although she did say he appears too scary to approach."
Exaggerating much?
"So?" I try to raise one eyebrow again. Fail. Why is she telling me all this?
"Umm... Nothing. I just thought you would be interested."
Why would I? I am not someone who romanticise violence.
I could not sit in the class and be tortured anymore, so I got up from my seat in order to go outside for a little washroom break. The teacher was definitely. not coming anytime soon.
"Where are you going?"
"Washroom." I hope she does not tag along.
"Sure. Return soon the teacher is going to come." She waves at me. I lift my hand to wave back just as she turns around. I lower my hand.
The hallways were empty, students in their classes. It looks like a hallway from a horror movie.
While returning, I suddenly heard a noise.
Very similar to a slap.
The hallway was empty though. There was again the same noise. Alarmed, I looked across the hallway a couple of times. Listening carefully, I concluded that it was coming from an empty classroom in the hallway. This classroom wasn't ever used, always empty.
There was a series of the same noise coming from the same place.
Ghost? I didn't know our school was haunted. Is that why they keep this classroom abandoned?
One of Jasmine's scary stories on one of our girl's nights comes to my mind. Should I run? Or should I call for help?
Wait, Diana. Don't be a dumb blonde. There is no such thing as a ghost. They aren't real. And it's broad daylight. I kept repeating this in my head over and over again for a while. Then, came a different noise. A girl whimpering.
Wait. Wait. Wait. Are they having sex in there? Who does that in an abandoned classroom which could potentially be haunted? And spider-infested. I instantly feel very much disgusted.
"Be quiet." I hear a girl's voice from inside. It seemed kind of familiar.
"I am s..sorry,'' a different voice spoke timidly. That's when I realised what was actually going inside the room.
As if on autopilot, my body moved on its own. I quickly opened the door to find a girl almost lying on the floor with her left hand holding her right cheek. The room was too dark. The only source of light was the barely open window.
I could not see her face from where I was standing. The other two girls who were in the room, stood looking at me wide-eyed. After realising who I was they both sighed in relief.
"This slut was annoying me Diana." Ruby, who liked to say that I was her best friend to the whole school, tried to explain herself...
"And you decided to do this?" I questioned.
"Yup. Bad girls like her need to be taught a lesson. I just thought I could play teacher for a bit. It's fun not gonna lie." They both giggled. Weird. There is nothing funny about this.
"What did I ever do wrong?" Spoke a small voice from the floor.
This brought flashbacks to the several high teen movies and the k-dramas I have binge watched.
"You were flirting with Kyle. I know he’s hot, but you don't need to act so desperate, bitch. He is not interested in you. Look at you, who is ever going to be interested?" What is wrong with Ruby? I should probably report her to the authorities for bullying.
Ruby then glanced at me as if looking for my approval and added, “He probably likes girls like me and Diana anyway." Disillusioned bitch.
"I hear someone desperate." I voice out my thoughts.
"Yeah." Ruby scoffs at the girl. Thinking I wasn't talking about her.
"I’m talking about you. You’re the pathetic one for bullying someone just because she flirted with someone you like. What gives you the right to hit someone? If he is interested in you he will come to you. You're so desperate it’s funny." I point at Ruby. She is out of her mind.
"What are you talking about Diana?" She screams in her high pitched voice.
"My ears." I wince. Why would she even think that it would be pleasant to ears.? I wonder if she moans like this too. Not the time Diana.
"Anyway, let her go, or I will report you to the authorities for bullying. '' I say nonchalantly.
"In no way is this bullying. It was just a little argument" She screams again. I am getting tired of this screaming.
"If you don't want a teacher finding you before I report, then stop screaming you’re annoying me."
"This is in fact bullying. Either you leave now, or I will report you. Choose, and quickly before I change my mind." I say seriously. I was going to report her anyway.
Ruby gulped. Chicken.
"Fine. If you report me even after this I will tell them you are with us. We all know teachers are easily going to believe that." She tries her best to appear intimidating. I just realised the girl beside her hasn't even spoken a word.
"Fine. Get lost." The faster the better.
Ruby exits the room hesitantly glancing back a few times. Pathetic.
"Thank you." A soft voice says from the ground.
Her voice is soft.
"Get up. You don't need to lay there any longer." Why is she still lying there?
"My feet hurt," She says hesitantly.
I put my hand forward for her take. I may have the reputation of being mean, so it shocks her for a bit that I am offering my hand. I am not that mean. I roll my eyes at her hesitance.
Before she could take my hand, the door of the classroom opened with a loud bang. The impact made the door almost come off its hinges. Surprised, I looked up trying to look at the intruder.
The sunlight from the window directly fell on his face. The light from the hallway created a sort of hallo from where he was standing. The first thing I realised was,
He had the prettiest grey eyes ever.
