Chapter 3

Diana

"Even miracles take a little time."

"Hmph. I don't like Cindewella I like Elsa."  September pointed at the screen. Her face was in a frown.

"Why don't you like her?" I asked. Cinderella is a classic. I don't find anything not to like about this.

"Let me think." For a five-year-old September is very smart. And also very cute. Her face scrunched cutely in her thinking face.

"Because she is not pretty!" She started jumping on the couch. Excited to finally know why she doesn't like Cinderella. I think Cinderella is pretty though.

"You will get hurt if you jump like that. Here is chocolate for you." I tried to bribe her with the chocolate to make her sit. September loves her chocolate.

The bribery doesn't work as her attention immediately gets diverted towards Adam coming from the kitchen. He joined us on the couch.

"I have a bigger chocolate for September." He waved it in front of her as she struggled to get her little hands on the chocolate.

"Thank you, Adam." September is satisfied when Adam finally gives her the chocolate. She kissed him on his right cheek as a thank you.

"Where is my kiss?" I pointed to my left cheek. She happily kissed my cheek and started eating her chocolate. She is so cute.

"Look! Cinderella is so pretty too!" I pointed at the screen just when the fairy Godmother cast her spell on her.

She glanced at the screen and said easily, "Elsa is prettier." That's because the animation is better there.

"Adam, who do you like, Princess Cinderella or Princess Elsa?" She looks at Adam expectantly.

He looked deep in thought for a while, then finally said with a smile on his face, "Aurora." Oh would you look at that, I give him a knowledge which he easily ignores.

"Adam likes princess Aurora?" September tilted her head to the side in confusion.

"Yeah, Adam likes Princess Aurora." He smiles at September. She smiles back. All of us stay quiet for a few minutes and look at the screen. Then, out of nowhere September's excited voice fills the room.

"Diana! Let's go outside." September said buzzing with excitement. This late? She was playing with us the whole day, running around. Kids never get tired.

"Why outside?"

"I want to count." Count? My face immediately forms a frown. Oh. She wants to count stars.

"Sure let's go but hold my hand tightly and always stay close to me. Don't wander off on your own." I made sure she understood what I meant.

September is very precious to everyone in our family. She is my mom's sister's daughter. I am sure mom loves her more than me, not that I am complaining. If she even gets a scratch, Adam and I won't be able to stay in the house peacefully anymore.

"Adam holds my left hand, and Diana holds my right hand." She raised her left hand towards me, looking at me expectantly.

Her hands are so small and soft. I sound like a guy holding a girl's hand for the first time. Ewww.

"You aren't cold right?" Adam asked September.

"The cold never bothered me anyway." She shrugged. She is a bit too obsessed with Frozen. I should tell her mother about this.  Adam chuckled at her comment and whispered 'cute' to himself.

An ice cream shop comes into our view. I haven't had ice cream in a while, it won't hurt to have one right now, right? September likes ice cream too.

"Do you want ice cream, September?" I ask her with a bright smile. Please say yes. Please say yes. Please say yes.

She thinks for a while then an excited 'yes' comes out of her mouth with a little jump.

"Choco! Choco!"

"You both go on your own, I will catch up with you once I am done buying." I glance at Adam.

"Sure, don't be late." Like that they both started walking to the park which is near our house. At some point, Adam picks her up, maybe she is tired of walking with those little legs of hers. I chuckle.

"Sure, don't be late." Like that they both started walking towards the park which is not very far from our house. I watch them walk away, Adam picks her up when she said her legs were hurting. After they had disappeared from my sight, I walked inside the shop.

With chocolate for September, a strawberry for me and mint chocolate for Adam I started walking towards the park. A sudden evil idea to drop Adam's ice cream pops in my head. That would be fun. On second thought, I should drop it in front of him and pretend it was an accident. His reaction would be priceless. He loves ice cream after all. His precious ice cream dropping in front of him, he will get angry for sure.

My thoughts get interrupted by a loud sob. I was so busy with the evil plan in my mind, that I almost did not hear it.

Sniff.

Someone is crying. The voice sounds like it's from a guy. Where is the sound coming from? Another loud sob comes. I look around for anyone who might be near me. No one. The next time the sound comes, I listen carefully. Concluding that it was coming from the dark alley to the left. That is where people from the neighbourhood throw their old furniture for recycling. In the moonlight, the street looks eerie.

What if the sound was coming from a supernatural being? As in…..ghost? Or a spirit? I would not be shocked if this alley was haunted. But if it is a human and they are hurt or something, I should help them. Why does this feel like a Deja Vu though?

Convincing myself that I should check and possibly help the person, I step into the dark alley. The occasional sniffles continue. I could see a small body curled up from far. His shoulders shook violently. I slowly inch towards him, he doesn't appear small from this close. His shoulders are broad as fuck.

Taking a few deep breaths, I slowly reach a hesitant hand towards his shoulder. He stills, his whole body turns rigid. Even I hold on to my breath. One..two.. three, exactly three seconds later he turned back, fast. So fast I almost didn't see him turning.

Shocked, I took a few steps back. Those familiar grey eyes stared right back at me. This time they were watery. His eyes are vulnerable and sad. Very sad. His expression is one of surprise, eyes wide and mouth slightly parted. There are tear stains on his high cheekbones, his eyes red and swollen.

Kyle Collymore.

Alerted, he stood up. It took a moment for him to realise the situation. Then, he pushed me, it wasn't a harsh push in any way just enough to put some distance between us. We were too close. Gulp.

"W..Wait!" I stutter out of my wits. I haven't processed what has been happening.

He rubs his already red eyes harshly with his sleeve to remove the remaining tears. Seeing that made me wince, it must hurt.

"You will hurt yourself!" I grab his right arm.

"Why do you care?" His gravelly voice whispers. He harshly pulls his arm from my hands.

Good question. Why do I care again? He is very rude right now and the last time I met him. He is also a guy who hits people. Why should I care about anything of the likes of him? Cause a guy you know is crying in the middle of the streets, Diana. It doesn't matter if he was rude to you.

"Obviously because anyone would. I am sure you will too." I say confidently. When he gives me a look of disbelief, my confidence falters, "er…right?" I question him.

"Where are you going this late?" He answers my question with another question. Wait, he did not answer me. Maybe he thinks I am not worth answering to.

"Why do you care?" I repeated the same thing he had said before. He should mind his own business when he is telling me to do the same.

"Are you alone?" He took a step closer while I took one back. He is intimating as fuck even while crying.

"No, my cousin is nearby." He wouldn't know Adam so I didn't say his name. Kyle breathed a sigh of relief? Relief over what? Ignoring me, he started walking toward his bike.

His owning a motorcycle is so cliche. He is a walking cliche.  I do have to admit he looks good with the motorcycle. His muscles flexed as he got on it. He looked so graceful. Giving me one last glare with his puffy red eyes he started the motorcycle and was out of my sight in a few minutes.

I was in awe. He looked so beautiful. So ruggedly handsome, like an angel. He did not look real. He looked like someone who would disappear any second. Like a dark hero.

Too bad looks are the only thing that guy has. Someone with an awesome personality like me doesn't have many good looks, while Kyle with a non-existent personality has such good looks. This made me feel a bit jealous.

My phone started ringing out of nowhere. The loud noise in the quiet alley easily startled me.

"Diana either you come here in five minutes or we are leaving you and going back." Adam's angry voice was the first thing I heard when I answered.

"I am coming in two," I said feeling guilty.

"You damn should." Without waiting for me to reply he hung up. He is just like my mom. This is why they get along so well.

As I walked in the lonely cold night, my thoughts were consumed by Kyle. Seemed that he always found a way back in my mind just as I had managed to remove him from my thoughts. Why was he crying? The question stuck with me.

He seemed very embarrassed to be caught in a situation like that. Seeing a guy like him cry was different, he looked so tough, big and just mature. A guy who is bad and all he likes is to fight. That doesn't mean he does not have feelings. It's just that we think that he does not have feelings, just because he is supposed to be the 'bad guy' in society.

Everyone thinks a guy like Kyle does not have feelings. He is a lot like me in that way.
