LT. 17 Au Revoir
The two men stood in front of Emelie's grave, both of whom had only temporarily carved a makeshift tombstone.
"Maybe we should save up a bit to buy a better one." [Nicholas]
"Yes, this isn't quite right." [Anatole]
Father Nicholas could only silently gaze at the grave.
"After all, she can still freely go wherever she wants..." [Anatole]
"You're right..." [Nicholas]
"After all, I just hope that my father is still healthy enough to take care of the other children." [Anatole]
"I understand that you still have a long journey ahead of you, perhaps meeting you is already a great honor." [Nicholas]
"Come on, I feel like I've only brought trouble to you." [Anatole]
The two of them laughed and talked all morning.
"But I said before that even God wouldn't let you die, right...? Maybe I said that too much, but at that time I thought it was even more true..." [Nicholas]
"It's absurd that even God wouldn't let me die...but if Father said so, then I think it has some basis." [Anatole]
"But before Marguerite passed away, she said you looked like "her"...I wonder if you looked like someone she used to know?" [Nicholas]
"I've been thinking about that too...but I've never seen anyone who looks like me." [Anatole]
"So, do you have any plans for where you're going in the near future?" [Nicholas]
He shrugged and put his hand in his pocket.
"I don't know, maybe somewhere...far away?" [Anatole]
Suddenly he noticed something in his pocket, and took out a letter.
"I don't remember having this..." [Anatole]
Both of them examined the letter carefully, it was an invitation letter, sealed with a special wax seal that Anatole himself knew...it was a seal of Manus Vindictae.
The letter was signed by Marguerite and was sent to a location in...Argentina?
"It seems strange, right? Did she give this to you before she died?" [Nicholas]
"That's probably it, she must have put it in my pocket at some point." [Anatole]
"And the other day at the market, I heard people talking about the fact that in a few months, the Foundation's French branch will have a meeting in Bordeaux, and many important figures from the Foundation will be there..." [Nicholas]
Anatole was quite surprised by this information.
"Are you telling the truth?" [Anatole]
"Yes, it's true, you should read the newspaper and see?" [Nicholas]
He thought for a moment and then turned to ask his father.
"You said before...i need allies to do anything, right?" [Anatole]
"That's right, but who are you going there with?" [Nicholas]
"There are many things I want to clear up...and now I know where I have to go..." [Anatole]
"No matter what, I wish you have a safe journey." [Nicholas]
"Yes, thank you for all this time...and goodbye, I hope we meet again someday." [Anatole]
"Next time, will you help me fix the church roof again?" [Nicholas]
He laughed.
"Not again, Father...au revoir (goodbye)!" [Anatole]
The priest smiled with satisfaction.
"You always respect everyone, even your enemies and I believe you will always be that person...a Jean Valjean of this cruel world..." [Nicholas]
