LADY OF THE LAKE
LADY OF THE LAKE
A FRODO BAGGINS FANFIC.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
SHROUDED WITH MAGIC AND HIDDEN deep in the enchanted woodlands north of Rivendell, the Kingdom of Camelot lives in tranquility. They are neither a proud nor warring people and rather the home of a reclusive and dying race. Nymphs, though strong with the power of nature around them, have not been as fortunate as most in past wars and have since been few in numbers. Instead of helping where they are needed, they have turned their backs on the world and wait for the day that their prophet be born and to lay claim upon the sacred sword of Excalibur.
Nimue Holmwood was just an ordinary girl with nothing to her name that came from the small farming village of Lyhasera, which no longer existed, having been set aflame and turned to ash upon a vicious raiding that left everyone dead expect for herself. Having nothing and nowhere to go, the girl came to live with her aunt and uncle in the small town of Bree. She helped them care for their Inn ─ the Prancing Pony ─ over the years until fate had called upon her, luring the girl from Bree and toward a land she had only ever seen in her most peculiar of dreams.
Along her journey, Nimue was attacked and robbed of what little coin she had on her. But not even her festering wound nor empty pouch stopped her determination. Soon, the girl came upon the enchanted land of Camelot, where she succumbed to her wounds and fell into darkness. The guards nearby had discovered her body floating down the lake and brought her within their walls, where, after awakening from her wounds, she had wandered into the castle and withdrew Excalibur from its place in the stone.
Rumors had spread like wildfire the day she claimed Excalibur. All across Middle-Earth, the girl came to be referred to as the Lady of the Lake. People came from near and far, wishing to see the Lady of the Lake and test her strength. Some, even, sought to claim the sword and its power. And after a while, the restless and power-hungry left Nimue Holmwood with no choice but to flee Camelot to keep its people, as well as herself, safe from those who sought to claim Excalibur for themselves. But she did not go alone. With her, was a trusted Knight named Lancelot that King Arthur charged with her protection.
Not sure where to go, Nimue Holmwood returned to her home and her work at the Prancing Pony with Lancelot at her side. She kept Excalibur hidden and, with Lancelot's guidance, practiced with her newfound strength and power, all the while trying not to attract attention toward herself. But it wouldn't be long until she had to make herself known again when a familiar young Hobbit and his three friends took residence in her family's Inn as a darkness sought to claim a powerful ring in their possession.

dedications: to dunbonnet, who is not only my best friend both on and off this platform, but for also helping me write out the summary for this story when I found myself struggling. And to pseudonym-lux as well, whose Thorin Oakenshield story inspired me to try to write my own Lord of the Rings fanfiction.
disclaimer: i do not own Lord of the Rings. All rights respectfully belong to the creators. The only things I take credit for are my characters, their lines, as well as any new dialogue and scenes you may read.
warnings: violence, bloodshed, gory details, death, and ptsd.
author's note: okay, so this is my first attempt at fanfiction. I've never written anything other than essays for school before, so I apologize in advance for how awful my writing may seem and for whatever grammatical errors you may come across while reading this story. And while I have your attention, I would like to extend my gratitude. It means a lot to me that you find something I am writing interesting enough to even read. That being said, I hope you enjoy everything about this fanfic and will appreciate how I've adapted the Lady of the Lake and Camelot into the world of Middle-Earth. It's something I always thought would be interesting to see given the magic and lore already within the fandom, so here we are. Hopefully it works out!
