the rain lost its cool

           as it stuttered

                       like my mama

           lost his cool

as he lost his job

           as he stuttered

                       and drenched desi drunk

            in the rain that stuttered

like him but didn't lose

           its job which was to fall

           on him as he lay splayed

palms up thinking

            he was hugging himself

                            before they dragged his body

            through the streets and his

name through the mud.
