3. INTERROGATION

CHAPTER THREE ━━━━━━━

INTERROGATION.

LILA SIGHED AND RUBBED HER FACE TIREDLY AS SHE WALKED THROUGH THE HOSPITAL PARKING LOT. Her car keys were dangling in between her fingers, her mind stuck to the fact that Sam was suddenly back. She left so suddenly and now was back so suddenly, it felt too weird.

"Hey."

Lila jumped when a hand touched her shoulder.

She swivelled around and held her car keys up, only to sigh in relief when she realised it was Kayce.

Her boyfriend laughed nervously, holding his hands up in the air, "It's okay," He said, "It's just me. Sorry."

Lila lowered her keys, "It's fine. Sorry."

He shook his head and stepped forward, a look of understanding in his eyes, "Don't be. Good to see you're prepared," He joked, pointing to the keys.

"Yeah, well gotta be."

"You still coming to the bar?" He asked.

Him, both of their siblings and Tara's friend group were going to meet up at the local bar later on that evening, try to talk everything out and figure out what the hell was going on in Woodsboro again. Wanting to bounce their anxieties off each other.

Lila grimaced and shook her head, "No, I can't. Something's come up," She quickly said before clearing her throat, "Carrie wants to go. Look after her for me?"

Kayce nodded and lovingly stroked her light colored hair, "Of course. Stay safe, okay? And call me later, I love you."

"Love you, too."

And then the next time the couple saw each other was in the waiting room of the police station.

Vince Schneider was dead.

He was found butchered in the dark parking lot of the bar the group attended. And it didn't take long for them all to be called in, even Lila despite not attending, seeing as he was her cousin. Estranged, sure, but still a cousin.

It was theorised that the same person who attacked Tara had killed Vince. At least, the same weapon was used. A knife made popular by Billy, Kitty and Stu during their murder spree. And so, it was presumed that this murder was also done by someone in a Ghostface mask. And if that theory was true, then it seemed like history was about to repeat itself. And no one would be safe.

Lila was the last to get called in.

She took her seat at the desk, opposite Sheriff Hicks. One leg was crossed over the other, her Converse tapping on the leg of the chair. The questions had only just begun, but she was already bored. And annoyed. She hated the way that Sheriff Hicks stared at her. Watching her. Trying to read everything about Lila. It utterly pissed her off.

"Are you seriously asking if I killed him?" She scoffed, folding her arms over her chest and melting into the chair.

"You didn't like him, Lila."

"Nobody liked him," Lila scoffed, rolling her eyes, "Sheriff, you know me. Do you really think I'd be capable of something like this?"

Sheriff Hicks just sat there. Continuing to observe her. Clearly unsure of what to think. On one hand, she knew Lila since the twenty-four year old was in diapers. They were next door neighbors, and with Carrie and Wes being the same ages and becoming best friends, it was only natural that the two families became incredibly close. Almost family-level of closeness. Especially after Marion fled, leaving Jack to look after their daughters all by himself.

And sure, there had been times where Lila had been a nuisance. Getting in trouble with Sam Carpenter far too often and being pretty much hated by the Sheriff, she had assumed all of that had been long forgiven. After all, it had been over four years since the last time Lila had spend time in a holding cell with Sam. So, sitting back there in front of the Sheriff, being questioned and almost accused of something, really wasn't sitting right with her.

Lila sighed and leaned forward, "I know I used to get in trouble, but I've changed, you know that," She pointed out, "And murder? Really? Sam and I used to get done for underage drinking, it's not like there was ever any violence."

Sheriff Hicks sighed. Looking convinced enough with Lila's point.

"Where were you last night then?" She asked, glancing down at her previous notes.

Lila opened her mouth, but before she could get any words out Sheriff Hicks' radio began to buzz and then a voice came over the line.

"They attacked again..." The officer on the other end informed.

Sheriff Hicks instantly looked up. Her eyes glued to Lila. Who sat opposite her with an 'I told you so' look on her face.

"...At the hospital. No casualties."

Sheriff Hicks let out a small sigh of relief.

Lila watched her every move as she reached up to press the side of the radio.

"Thank you, I'm on my way," She said into the radio before turning back to look at Lila.

Lila leaned forward, "The hospital? My dad's working today."

Sheriff Hicks nodded, "He's okay, but I can give you a ride over there."

Lila nodded and copied Sheriff Hicks' movements. Standing up from their chairs, smoothing out their trousers and walking towards the door, ready to end the interrogation. Although, Lila couldn't help but continue watching the Sheriff. Noting the way that she would discreetly glance at the younger blonde from the corner of her eye.

When the two stepped out into the hallway, Lila immediately pulled her sister up whilst Sheriff Hicks looked between everyone still sat around. Her eyes flickering between Lila and Kayce, a far away look in them, as if she was trying to figure something out but couldn't piece the pieces together.

Lila stared at the older woman. Sending her a shrug and a smug smile. I told you so. Then, with her hand wrapped around Carrie's wrist, she walked out of the station, pulling her sister along and not saying a single word to anyone, whilst Sheriff Hicks followed the two out, her eyes never once leaving the back of Lila's head, a feeling deep down in her gut gnawing at her until she pushed it down, not ready to explore it just yet.
