Legacy: Chapter 27
"Babe, hurry up!" Allie called to her girlfriend, applying a rushed layer of lipstick and nearly tripping in the process of putting on her heels. Kelley rolled her eyes from the bed. "Allie," she huffed. "I'm ready. You're the one that needs to hurry up.."
The blonde shook her head, grabbed her phone and met Alex, Kelley and Tobin at the door. It was four days after the girls had hung out in the apartment. The group (without Carli, who was FaceTiming with Hope) were going out to celebrate the end of a long week to Diggy's bar in the Upper West side. The streets on New York were busy with tourists, business meetings and college students going out to dinner. The girls were lucky there was room in the bar for all for of them.
Alex and Allie sat on the bar stools. Pounding music shook the frail building and a young man with dark brown hair and a smug smile greeted the girls from the other side of the counter. "G'night, ladies," he said. "What can I get you?"
"I'll have a shot of gin," Alex ordered without hesitation. Both Allie and the bartender's eyebrows raised, but they didn't question her decision.
"I'll ju- just have a beer on tap, please," Allie stuttered. The man poured their drinks and set them down on the wooden counter.
"Anything else?" he asked, watching as Alex took her shot. Allie shook her head and placed a five dollar bill in front of her. "Keep the change." The blonde got up from her seat and moved with her beer to find Kelley.
Alex turned away from the bartender, somewhat regretting the shot she had just drunk. It was horribly bitter and the essence of raw roots made her feel nauseous and a lump formed in her throat. She swallowed and pressed her lips together to avoid throwing up. A tap on her shoulder made her turn and she frowned.
"What?" Alex snapped at the bartender.
"Would you like any water?" he asked, looking at her carefully. She shook her head. "No, I'm fine." The man raised an eyebrow but remained quiet.
"What I would like though, is your name..." Alex instructed, swiveling in her stool to face him full on.
"Servando. Servando Carrasco. You are..." he trailed off reaching out a hand.
"Alex Morgan. Nice meeting you," she shook it. "You're very impressive," Servando placed a glass of water in front of Alex anyways. "I don't know anyone who would easily take a shot of gin."
Alex shrugged.
"Are you at the University?" Servando asked.
"Yeah, I am," Alex answered shortly. "I'm a senior. You?"
"Graduated last year. I play soccer for the New York City FC. Work here on the weekends, though."
"You play?" Alex asked.
"Um... yeah.." Servando responded. "Do... you?"
"Yes, I'm a forward for the NYC women's team. Season ended though. We lost in the quarterfinals."
He nodded. "That's cool." Servando sipped the water he had set out for Alex. "Listen- I'm off of work tomorrow. Do you want to meet up for coffee around ten? I know the best spot."
Alex smiled for the first time since the gin. "Tomorrow at ten? That works for me.." Servando grinned as well and retreated to serve another young couple that was seated at the bar. Allie took her seat back next to Alex, this time with Kelley next to her. "You have plans?" Allie teased, nudging her friend.
"Oh, shut up," Alex scolded, blushing.
"What's his name?" The blonde pried.
"Allie!"
"What is it? Alejandro? Ajax? Xavier? He would be a sexy Xavier..." Allie said dreamily.
Alex glanced to make sure the man was occupied with people before answering, "Servando."
"Ooh..." Allie trailed off. "Ser-van-do. Even hotter."
The forward turned crimson and grew hot, her ears bright red. To make matters worse, Servando paused in front of the trio of women and gave them an extra serving of drinks, this time giving all of them a glass of beer.
He winked at Alex who blushed even more (if that was possible) and sipped her drink. She reached into her pocket for her wallet but Servando shook his head. "My treat. Don't pay for it..."
Once he left them, both Kelley and Allie turned towards Alex with raised brows.
"Stop it," she muttered, sinking in her chair.
"Oh, Servando!" Kelley whispered, louder than Alex would've liked. "Oh, how much I love you..." she mocked Alex quietly.
The forward shook her head. "Stop it guys, you sound like what's her name- Red Riding Hood when she goes to the Grandma.. wolf... oh, damn it, you know what I mean."
Allie laughed. "Only Alex Morgan would compare her best friends to fairy tale characters."
Alex chuckled a little and shook her head. "I hate both of you. More than Hansel and Gretel hated the evil witch lady."
Kelley shushed her. "Don't let Servando hear you say that! He might get compared to Prince Charming!"
