Legacy: Chapter 43

Mal collapsed onto her uncomfortable bed and closed her eyes, collapsing into her soft pillow. Rae groaned from the bed next to her and smothered her face in a similar fashion. "I hate papers," the darker skinned girl moaned into the sheets. "They suck so bad."

Mal nodded in agreement, turning over onto her back and staring blankly at the ceiling. Her pulse raced with stress and she that if she didn't get started on her hours of work, she would be up until past midnight.

Rae plopped onto the girl's bed and sighed heavily, leaning into her warm figure. "Why do professors insist on giving us all this work a few weeks before Spring Break?" Rae protested. She pressed her face in Mal's shoulder, who shuddered slightly. She gently pried Rae off of her and smiled softly.

"What we said earlier," Rae started, leaning closer to her roommate. Mal rolled her eyes. It was the third time that week that the girl had attempted to bring up the topic of their non existent relationship.

"I know you don't want to talk about it," Rae said. "But I do..."

Mal sighed again and looked at her. "It's not like I don't want to talk about it, I just... can't."

"Mallory," Rae murmured. She leaned closer and closer to the girl before pressing their lips together. Mal pulled away quickly. They were so close that she could count every freckle on Rae's dark face.

"Rae," Mal groaned collapsing back onto the bed. The girl brought herself so she was positioned on top of Mal, and pecked her on the lips once more.

Her eyes narrowed for a second, thinking it through. "Okay, Rae. Fuck what we said earlier..."

Rae's smiled turned into a full fledged beam as she kissed Mal again.

Lindsey adjusted her purse on her shoulder and squinted out at the traffic that constantly flooded the streets of New York City. It was almost midday, and the February air was freakishly warm. All the blonde needed to wear was a pair of jeans and a light long sleeve shirt, which just so happened to be Emily's favorite.

Which is who she was seeing, by the way. If Emily hadn't called and said to come visit her in her new apartment, Lindsey would be using her Saturday morning for sleep. She caught a taxi in the street and hopped inside, letting herself be driven to Queens, New York, where her girlfriend had bought a new apartment.

The text Lindsey had recieved stated that Emily's apartment was 241A, on the first floor. She buzzed herself into the complex and knocked on Emily's door, waiting to see her familiar face. It swung open and a bushel of strawberry blonde hair, freckles and a warm expression engulfed Lindsey at once.

She sighed in relaxation into her girlfriend's soft shoulder and kissed her carefully. "I miss you," Lindsey said, her voice breaking with elation. Emily nodded. "I miss you too," she said, closing the door.

Lindsey followed her into the tiny kitchen, where Emily poured her a cup of coffee. "I like what you've done to the place," Lindsey complemented, accepting the steaming mug from her.

"Thanks," Emily laughed, kissing her girlfriend's cheek playfully.

A silence fell between them and Emily tugged Lindsey over to the sofa, where she put down her cup of coffee and kissed Emily lightly. The younger girl cuddled up into her girlfriend's side and closed her eyes against Emily's warmth.

"Don't fall asleep on me yet!" she laughed, poking Lindsey until she sat up reluctantly.

Neither one of them talked for quite some time, choosing to relax in the warm sunlight streaming in from the windows. Then Lindsey sat up and gathered Emily's attention while looking at her with puppy eyes.

"Emily," Lindsey started, her voice wavering slightly.

"Linds, what is it?" Emily asked in confusion. Something was wrong, she knew it. Lindsey never used her full first name. It was only ever 'Em' these days.

"I..."

"Lindsey?"

"I... I- I lo..." she stammered.

"Lindsey speak to me," Emily whispered, giving herself more leverage onto the younger one.

"I love yo- you... I love you. I love you."

Emily's worried expression flowed into a soft smile and she kissed Lindsey once again. "Ditto."
