It was the first warm day that they had had in awhile.
The sun beat down on Hope and Carli's backs as they made their way to the soccer field in Central Park. Even though Hope's arm was still in a sling and the amount of homework the two of them had was unbearable, it was impossible to not get out.
Birds were chirping and children of all ages ran around the park, their parents frantically calling for them to come back. It seemed as if everyone in New York was outside today. The couple passed picnic blankets and kids playing baseball and seven horse drawn carriages. Food vendors were making a hell of alot of money from the New Yorkians who didn't want to go back inside to eat.
Hope inhaled the smell of fresh grass and beamed. She hadn't set foot on a soccer field since mind February with the Seattle Reign. It was April now, and she couldn't help but laugh out loud as Carli gave her a weird look.
Hope stole the ball from her girlfriend's arms and kicked it a few yards away. Carli frowned, but it didn't last long and was soon replaced by a look of determination as Hope took down the field after it. Carli shook her head and followed, easily catching up to the older woman.
She laughed loudly and took the ball, her feet twitching to keep it away from Hope. Hope sighed, holding up her arm. "Babe, I'm wounded!" she complained. Carli smiled and pressed a gentle kiss on her lips.
"Too bad," she whispered, turning and sprinting away with the soccer ball. Hope groaned, but ran after her.
Carli scissored her way over a root that was sticking up from the ground. She watched as her girlfriend tripped over it, nearly falling on her face. Laughing, she ran back towards Hope. "Oh, baby," she said.
Hope made a sad face and then latched her one good arm around Carli's waist, holding her so tightly it was impossible for the woman to escape. The goalkeeper let out an evil laugh as Carli struggled. She flailed widely, which only led to both women falling on the ground. Hope looked at the woman on top of her but didn't release her grip. "I've got you!" she said loudly.
"Hope, shush," Carli shook her head, looking around the field self-consciously.
"I've got you!" Hope said, raising her voice to a shout. "I've got you and I'M NEVER LETTING GO!"
Carli's head fell onto her girlfriend's chest in embarrassment as some onlookers stared at them curiously.
"Can I please have some of your taco?" Carli pleaded, her voice small as she peered at the partially unwrapped meal that Hope was about to eat. Carli had already inhaled hers, so quickly that Hope thought her girlfriend would choke on her salsa.
She didn't though, and was now still hungry. Hope rolled her eyes and tore off a little piece of her shell and handed it to Carli. The midfielder observed it closely, popped it into her mouth and looked at Hope for more. The goalkeeper, who hadn't even eaten one bite of her food, set the taco down and kissed Carli shockingly hard.
It hurt Carli's lips a little bit, but it's not like she was going to complain. Hope moaned softly as she wrapped her good arm around Carli's neck. The midfielder broke away and raised her eyebrows. "Damn, Hope," she whispered, feeling her lips with her fingers. "But I think we should wait to do this tonight, right?"
Hope shrugged, knowing her girlfriend was right. This didn't stop her from kissing her once more and then taking a big bite of her taco. That was all she could manage to eat before handing the food to Carli, who ate every last bite.
"Are you ready to head back to campus?" Hope asked softly, gatheing up their trash and throwing it into the nearest bin. Carli nodded, standing up as well and lacing an arm around her waist. Hope's cast rested on Carli's shoulder and they aided each other walk all the way home.
