Ajay's heart squeezed in her chest several times as she stared at the one that broke her heart into pieces. Her emotions were all over the place, she was excited and at the same time furious to know that he was the hot chocolate dude who happened to be her date for the night. He looked really good but he had hurt her a lot in the past and the memories made her sick of everything. So she did what she did.

She stood up and walked out, trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to fall.

Fejiro made his way to the stage with his shoulder slumped, his thoughts leaving him in serious inner conflict. He wanted to comfort Ajay, Scratch that, he needed to comfort Ajay and explain things to her. Her once glowing eyes had a lot of pain in them just before she walked out of the auditorium.

He turned and hurried out of the auditorium, ignoring all whispers, side-talks and stares from his staff. The cool evening breeze met him as he stepped outside. It managed to calm his nervous self down a little. Just a tiny bit. He hurriedly set off to find the love of his life. He searched everywhere that he could think of but couldn't find her. He was about to give up when he heard sobs coming from the pool side.

She was seated by the pool with her legs in the water. His heart broke to see how vulnerable she looked at that moment.

He took quiet strides towards her and made an attempt to stoop to her level when she interjected, "Don't! Don't come close," she warned.

"Ajay, please......"

"Do I look like a fool to you? Someone you can play around with to appeal to your selfish desires?"

"Ajay, I......."

She got on her feet and face him head on, "Mr. Fejiro, what do you want?"

"Ajay....."

Ajay hissed, pointing a finger at him, "Why the hell are you chasing after me when you're actually a marri...."

He groaned in frustration, speaking with a strained voice, "Will you just shut the f*ck up and allow me explain?!" Ajay jolted in shock at his outburst, "please.." he added in a pleading voice.

Ajay remained mute and Fejiro took it as cue to continue. "Look, babe, I'm not married, heck! I've never been married since my mum brought me into this earth. That woman you met in my house years ago was just some random girl I saved."

He unlocked his phone and opened his gallery to show Ajay a picture of a lady in a white wedding gown and her groom in a brown suit, linked at their arms smiling joyfully at the camera.

"Look at this, Ajay," she raised the phone to her eye level, "Can you recognize her?"

Ajay snatched the phone from his hands to take a closer look. She would recognize the lady anywhere. She was Fejiro's 'supposed' wife. She looked at Fejiro, waiting for an explanation.

"I'm sure you know who the lady is. She's now married to the love of her life. We had a platonic relationship, nothing more. There was an attraction at some point, but we didn't do anything about it, I didn't do anything about it. We never even shared a kiss, Ajay. Please believe me."

They remained silent for sometime as Ajay tried processing all the information she was just given. She looked at the picture severally and then at Fejiro, not being able to understand.

'I mean, someone can get married twice,' she thought to herself.

"I can call her here and now if you wish," Fejiro offered as if seeing through her disbelief.

Ajay took a deep breath and shook her head, "There'll be no need for that. Not like I have any right to get angry at you. You have every right to do whatever you want with your life."

"You have every right to be mad Ajay. I'm giving you every damn right to be mad at me. I know you might think it's too soon but I still love you. I have always loved you."

"I'm sorry, Fejiro, sorry, Mr. Fejiro but I have to take my leave now." She turned and took fast strides away from him towards the auditorium, her heels clicking with every step.

"Why? Am I still not your spec?" His voice stopped her dead in her tracks. Her body trembled at the thickness of his voice, her breathing a bit rasp. "Is that why you can't give me another chance?" He added.

His body rotated in a clockwise direction until he was standing behind her with her back facing him.

"What?" She turned to face him.

"I'm sure there was no water in my mouth when I spoke," he sounded sassy, he was already getting impatient, "Am I still less than your f*cking spec or whatever trash that is?"

"Why would you ask me such a question? What does being my spec have to do with any of this?" Ajay asked, utterly flabbergasted.

Fejiro took long strides until he was standing just few inches away from her, "You're sounding like that's not the major reason you ran away from me without even listening to my explanation. I was leaching off you and you were obviously exhausted so you ran away when you got the slightest chance to get rid of me...."

Ajay's palm connected to his cheek painfully with a whack. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She felt insulted, "Don't you dare!"

"Ajay, you knew I was f*cking innocent. You can't tell me you didn't know. You would have listened to my explanations if you actually wanted to actually be with me."

"I don't bloody care what you think, Mr Fejiro and I would appreciate it if you stay the hell away from me." She turned and walked away, her heart feeling it was bearing a hundred pounds weight. Her lacrimal glands wouldn't stop secreting tears either.

Fejiro immediately regretted what he did and ran after her. He didn't take up to ten steps before he grabbed her by the hand and turned her over to face him. Seeing the tears in her eyes melted his heart and he regretted speaking to her that way.

It was not part of the plan!

"Ajay, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have...." Ajay pulled her arm off his hand and she waved her palm in the direction of his face again. She missed this time around, he caught her flying hands in the air, "Ajay, I know I'm just being a plain jerk to you, and I'm truly sorry about that. But don't you think I've had enough slaps from you already?"

Ajay gave a humourless chuckle, she marvelled at his boldness, "It's the audacity for me." She pulled away her hands from his grip and glared at him, "Don't you ever, in your life, lay those your filthy hands on me again. And it'll do us a lot of good if we stay away from each other."

Fejiro's sighed in defeat as he watched her take what he would describe as 'sexy' steps towards the auditorium. It was then he remembered he was supposed to be in charge of the award ceremony.

"Shit!"
.
.

Ajay caught a glimpse of Victor just in front of the auditorium talking and laughing with his supposed date. She hurriedly dabbed her face and tried putting on a smile as she walked towards them. Victor looked up and their eyes met. He smiled.

"Hi Jess, you've been scarce."

"Nothing much. I've been..... around?" It sounded more like a question. He sensed the sadness in her voice and frowned.

"Are you okay?" He asked

She shook her head side to side, slowly, "I honestly need a drink," she said and walked off. Victor excused himself from his supposed date and ran after her. He met her at the bar ordering her favorite wine mixture which was a complex blend of raspberry brandy, lemon juice, gum syrup, grenadine and red wine.

"A glass please," she ordered, taking a seat on the counter.

"Same thing for me, please," Victor added, taking a seat beside her.

"So what's up Ajay, what's wrong?" Victor asked, taking a sip of his wine.

"I met Fejiro..." Victor stared at her in confusion, ".....my ex," she added and Victor's eyes widened. He was one of the few persons that knew about Ajay's heartbreaking past relationships.

"What? How come? I thought you said...."

"I know right?" Ajay chuckled, "Turns out he is now our one and only Executive Director."

Victor's face hardened. He never saw any of this coming. He took in deep breaths to calm his racing heart before speaking.

"You're not thinking of taking him back, are you?" Ajay stared into space, taking the wine in her hands sip after sip. Victor looked at her keenly, anticipating her answer. The suspense was choking him.

Ajay drank the remaining strong liquid in her cup in one gulp before answering, "He's not worth it."

Victor released a breath he never knew he was holding and relaxed in his seat. He had loved Ajay for as long as he could remember. He never imagined pressuring her because of his feelings. But now that her ex was in the picture, he was jealous..... and scared.

Ajay pushed her chair backwards and stood up, "I'm going upstairs, you can relax here if you want to," she sighed, turning to leave. She was stopped dead in her tracks when victor held her hand. His grip was gentle but tight.

She turned and gave him a quizzical look. He gulped. He was apprehensive.

"Ajay, I'm scared. I'm really scared. I don't want to loose you," he pulled her close and placed his head on her abdomen looking down at their now intertwined fingers.

When Ajay did not say anything, he raised his head, looking at her face to see her reaction. Her face held no emotions and his heart squeezed in his chest.

"Ajay, I have feelings for you. Even though I've never said it, I'm sure you've noticed it over these few years we've been together. I show it at every slight opportunity I get."

Ajay slowly moved her fingers over his scalp, soothing it gently, "Victor......"

"I know, I know you don't date your one night stands but Ajay, don't I mean more than that to you now?"

"You do Victor, you honestly do. I sometimes wish I could also choose who I want to love. Believe me when I say I have tried. My friend Zara wants us to get together too but then the heart wants what it wants and I'll be lying to you if I say it wants you."

"Ajay, I don't mind at all. I'll wait. I'll love you for the both of us until you learn to love me too. Please, just give me a chance." Victor wrapped his hands around her waist, hugging her tightly.

Ajay sighed sadly. She honestly wished she could love the gentleman that was hugging her like his life depended on it. But as much as she wanted to deny it, she was still crazy about Fejiro. Even though he hurt her badly, she wanted to pull him into a soothing hug the last time he came back almost apologising for his outburst. Her pride wouldn't let her do as her heart wants so she walked out.

"Ajay....." Ajay rolled her eyes.

"Speak of the devil," she muttered, watching Fejiro as he took steps towards her. He held his tuxedo in his hands with the sleeve of his shirt slightly rolled up. He wasn't finding the fact that another man's hand was around his woman's waist, funny. His face hardened, eyes twinkling with concentrated jealousy. Victor looked up, his face bearing a scowl as he stood up to his feet, hands strongly holding Ajay's waist.

"Can we help you?" Victor asked rudely.

Fejiro glared at him, eyeballing him spitefully. He turned to Ajay with pleading eyes, "Babe, please we need to talk."

Victor pulled Ajay behind him protectively, his gaze hardening each passing second, "Sorry to disappoint you sir, but there's nothing to talk about here. You've caused enough damage already, leave her alone."

"I wasn't talking to you," Fejiro warned, "Ajay, please, I won't take much of your time."

"Dude, I'm sure you're not deaf!" Victor retorted.

Fejiro boiled with anger, he was mad. "Who be this guy na? Was I talking to you? Or are you suddenly her mouthpiece? Don't make me do something we will both regret."

Ajay, who saw how hard Fejiro was trying to maintain his composure, had to intervene. She walked towards Fejiro, wrapped her hands around his wrist and pulled him out of the bar, muttering apologies to Victor.

She dragged Fejiro up to her hotel room, opened the door, pulled him in and shut the door. She was trying her best to remain calm. She backed him, crossing her hands on hands on chest.

"Fejiro, what is it?"
