"Mummy, I don't like this Ankara now, it's too dull," I complained, pushing away the dirty brown Ankara material my mum held to my face.

My mum glared at me, "Ibiakwa! This colour is mature nu. It is perfect for those your ndi asoebi first outing. Just negodu the....." (You have come. Asoebi people. Look at.)

"Mummy, I don't like this colour and nobody is wearing that thing for my wedding. Period." My mum dragged her lips in a long hiss and kept the ankara aside.

This woman.

I gave her a fake smile and went ahead to scatter the several colours of materials on the floor looking for the one that would suit my selected colours of the day- Rose gold, white and a touch of turquoise blue.

It had been six months since Fejiro proposed to me and honestly I don't regret saying yes to his proposal. He was literally the sweetest man on earth. He didn't just tell me he loved me, he showed me in every little way possible. It was my traditional wedding the next day and I couldn't be happier. My court wedding was already done here in Enugu a week ago. My mum was even the happiest of every one. Memories of the moment I broke the news to her would make their way to my head once in a while and it still had me giggling like a teenager.

~~~~~~~~
"Mummy, I'm getting married."
"Married how? Are you joking with me?" My mum attacked me immediately, sounding like she had not been disturbing me to get married. So much for thinking she would jump in joy.
I rolled my eyes, she just made my excitement drop from 10 to 4. "Mummy, why will I joke with something like that? My. Boyfriend... Sorry, my fiance just proposed."
"So you had a boyfriend all these while and you didn't dim it fit to introduce him to us, okwa ya? Where's he from? I hope it's not all those abokis from Abuja you're bringing in as your husband because I will cut your two legs out of my house."
"Mummy, stop being tribalist naw, ogini sef? Shey you're the one that has always wanted to share asoebi, now the time has come and you're being grumpy-"
"My Princess," My dad's voice echoed in the background and my lips spread into a smile, my excitement hiking back to 10.
"Daddy, I'm getting married," I announced excitedly.
"I overheard. Congratulations my Princess." As simple as ABC. Why can't my mum just behave like my dad.
"Thank you daddy. I announced the news to mum and she wants to have my head already."
My dad let out a throaty laughter and mum hissed. "Don't mind your mum. I'm very sure after this call the news will start flying everywhere--"
"You're the one spoiling this girl."
"-So when is he coming to see us?"
"We should be in Enugu by next week," I assured dad and I could feel mum's sudden excitement from the other side of the phone.
My mum is just a clown.
~~~~~~~~~~~

My wedding was like a national wedding with the popular hashtag #TheOvie.Onyinwvis2022. Our pre-wedding pictures were all over social media and a lot of celebrities and dignitaries were invited.

Perks of getting married to an Ovie-Onyinwvi.

The morning of my traditional wedding arrived so quickly and the radiating morning sun only added more colour to the already colourful day. I was nervous but at the same time overwhelmed with excitement. It was a day I had long prayed for and I couldn't wait to be traditionally married to the love of my life.

Before the wedding proper took its full swing, the photographer arrived for my bridal photoshoot with my three attires. The first outfit comprised of a black long grown made with the Igbo traditional 'Isi agu' material which hugged my body from my chest and was made flay from the mid-thigh downwards, a horse tail, and red beads which adorned my hair, ear, neck, and wrists dutifully bringing out the beauty of my complexion. The second outfit was made up of a rose gold long body con gown sewn with a the traditional George Lace paired with white beads that adorned my neck, a clutch purse and a white traditional hand fan. The final attire was a purple urhobo bridal attire consisting of a purple off-shoulder blouse and two wrappers. I was getting married into Delta state so I had to represent. I skipped the head-tie part. I was just not a fan of those bags of discomfort.

Zara skillfully made me up even with her engorged abdomen due to pregnancy and my wedding fashion designer and her girls made sure I settled perfectly in each of my outfit before taking pictures in each of them. I waited not so patiently for the bride price to be settled between the elders in both families. I wanted to see my man.

When they were done settling the bride price, my man walked in with the popular Niger Delta attire for our couple shoot before the wedding started in earnest. My asoebi ladies, mostly my colleagues from work including my secretary Aisha and Zara, made a big deal out of him seeing me. He had to pay them transportation fare and wait in our wide living room while they came up to my room where I was, to bring me downstairs.

The videographer for the event was not missing out on the heart fluttering drama. I was made to take graceful steps down the stairs but when I caught sight of my husband who stood with his back facing me, I caught butterflies in my stomach. And all I wanted to do at that point was to run down and let his huge frame cover my smaller ones while peppering kisses all over my face. But Zara's hold on my hand was firm. She gave me a knowing smile and I pouted.

Evil thing.

When I was just a step behind him, I could see his smile becoming wider even without looking at his face. I tapped him slowly and he turned almost immediately. Everyone in the living room broke out into laughter at the speed he used to turn to face me. My eyes scanned through his outfit, a white see through lace traditional top with the same purple george wrapper tied firmly around his waist, a single red beaded necklace and bangles on his two wrists, a hat and a traditional staff which he held in what I would call a 'sexy' way.

Damn this handsome man. Everything looked so f*cking good on him.

A wide smile that reach his eyes appeared and I blushed under his scrutinizing gaze.

"Damn," he breathed out, taking my hand in his and bringing it to his lips for a quick peck, "My wife is hot."

"My husband is hotter." He winked at me before pulling me into his arms for a hug. My heart danced in my chest. It was happy. I was also happy. His head dipped and claimed my lips in a kiss but the cheers and screams from the people around made it shorter than I wanted, I groaned when he pulled back. The photographer and his team got to work immediately, taking beautiful pictures of us. I was the only one that had to get changed three times again for these set of pictures because my husband had just one attire.

This life no just balance at all.

After the pictures, the wedding started in earnest and by the end of the day, step two to being Mrs Ovie-Onyinvwi was done and dusted. My white wedding was in a week's time and the flight to Lagos with my family happened three days after my traditional wedding.

I woke up to loud music playing from the living room of the hotel suite at Eko hotels where I and my bridesmaids lodged just for my wedding. Thank God for the soundproof wall, I'm sure the hotel would have collapsed by now due to the vibrating effect the two massive speakers were having. I peered at the clock opposite me and read out the time, "5:26am".

Victony's 'All power' came up and I could hear them scream. That was when reality hit me.

My wedding day. At the end of today, I'll be following my husband to his home, sorry, our home.

I whispered a prayer of Thanksgiving to God and concluded it when I heard Zara's voice.

"Mrs Fejiro, oya o, it's time for your bridal shower." I smiled, sluggishly stretching my arms out. I don't know why but it felt weird waking up this early. A frown made its way to Zara's lips and I chuckled.

"Congratulations to the latest bride in town," my bridesmaids chorused, walking into the room already dressed in their rose gold bridal shower attire. Most of them had already worn the matching 16' frontal curly wig that I got for them. It was just Zara who was still in her plain cornrows and her nightie.

"You guys should just kill me already," I laughed, "How did you guys do it?"

"Don't mind them o. It is I, your one and only competent secretary who managed to get their lazy asses off the bed," Aisha boasted and everyone laughed, "Don't worry even the bridal shower party arrangements is already thanks to me."

"Madam abegi let's hear word," Zara sassed and Aisha rolled her eyes.

I laughed, "Iya ibeji, today is not for violence biko."

"Says the violence minister herself."

Wahala.

After a thirty minutes deep cleansing- because I won't call what Zara subjected me to a bath- the hotel service brought in our breakfast of Diet pancakes with tea or hand pressed fruit juice for those who preferred it. I was not a fan of pancakes but for some reason it was mouth watering that morning.

After breakfast, the makeup artist and her girls got to work immediately, styling our wigs and then dolling us up for the day. Fejiro hired her himself so I was sure she would deliver. And she actually did.

The bridal shower pictures followed after I wore my white beautiful bridal shower gown, with my bouquet and a sash which said 'MRS FEJIRO TO BE'. It was surely Zara's idea.

The dancing part of my bridal shower was skipped because we already had our makeup on and obviously had no motive to ruin it. I didn't do my bridal shower the night before because, as you guessed correctly, I needed my sleep

An hour to my wedding and I was already dressed in the luxury wedding gown my mum ordered from Italy. I would give her the credit. It was perfect. My bridesmaids were also dressed beautifully in the rose gold mermaid gown. Derinsola, my ring bearer, was also ready in her cute floor length white gown and a veil on her head. Zara deserves the credit. Her daughter's hair was so beautiful.

"Mummyyy..." My mum strolled into the room and the puffiness of her eyes was a feature that couldn't be missed.

She had been crying.

"Mummy, were you crying?" I teased.

"Close that your mouth, osiso." Before she could open her mouth to say another word to me, a lone tear dropped. My heart felt heavy. I had never seen my mum cry.

"Mummy, now..." My eyes water. I pushed myself up from the sofa and drew her into a hug. "Mummy, it's your daughter's wedding o. It's not a day to cry."

My mum nodded. Releasing me from the hug, she cupped my face and our eyes met. I hardly ever saw this emotional part of my mum. She loved me  I could see it.

"Amarachi, ngwa mechie anya gi...." She opened her mouth and began to proclaim blessings upon me, my marriage and my new home which was about to be formed. I responded with several 'amens'. When she was done She smiled and gave me a loving peck on my forehead. (Close your eyes)

"Mrs. Fejiro, your limo is ready o." Zara's voice echoed in the hallway. "I know you have an affinity for lateness but it's not going to work for you toda--" She paused when she noticed my mum's presence in the room. I pulled my tongue at her like a child, chuckling at her frowned face.

With their help, I got into the limo and we drove off to  St Jude's Cathedral.

This epilogue was more difficult than I thought and it was getting too long so I just had to divide it into two.

I am not feeling this sef. It looks whack. Please manage it. I'll edit it as time goes on.

Meanwhile...!! Thank you guys so much for reading.
