"You said that was bullshit."
————————————————
Ji-hye felt like with one more movement she'll die. Her hands were covered in blisters, her abdomen, legs, arms, and head hurt. But she was thankful she had made it out alive thanks to the old man and Sang-woo. Even though she doubted Sang-woo's last minute idea, she was still thankful. She grabbed her corn, heading back to the rest of the group.
"I seriously thought we were all going to die." The woman said "But once I laid back, I really felt so much stronger. "What is this? This work?" Sir, how did you come up with that?"
"When I was young I just-."
"You copied that from a movie, right? What's that movie? You know, the one that goes like this." She leaned back and moved her arms with her
"The Matrix." Ali answered, the women looked at him disappointed
"So, you slacked off at work and just watched movies in Korea?" The women made Ji-hye's blood boil, Ali just looked at her seriously. "And you, babe." She looked at Sang-woo. "Just take three steps forward! I mean, that was way too cool." She squealed, "How did you come up with that in that situation?"
"You said that was bullshit." Ali corrected her
"I did? What are you bullshitting about?"
"You were crying, "Are you crazy? That's bullshit!" That's what you said." Ali mimicked her, Ji-hye chuckled.
"Hey! Which country are you from? Do you even have a visa! You're an illegal alien, right? Gosh. Look, boys. Should we really let this strange foreign guy stay on our team? I should take this chance to sort this team out."
"Alright, that's it. You are one of the bit-" Ji-hye got cut off and mumbled the rest of her sentence on Sang-woo's hand when he quickly covered her mouth, he knew it would get ugly if Ji-hye continued her sentence. "You bitch." Ji-hye rolled her eyes at him.
"You're lucky you have Mr.Handsome stopping you or else it would've gotten ugly. See, I need someone like him, I would stop being crazy. Anyways, who's the leader here? Handsome guy, are you the leader?"
"We don't have a leader. We're all equal on this team."
"Aish, even better. An egalitarian society! Shit it's totally different to some damn thug who thinks he's the king and does whatever he wants."
"But, why did you get kicked out, missus?" Gi-hun asked
"Babe. I'm not missus. My name is Han Mi-nyeo. Just call me Mi-nyeo. And I wasn't kicked out. I chose to leave the team. Those thugs and I were on completely different levels."
"They only abandoned you and then picked the big guys." Sang-woo pointed out. "Right before the game at that. It's as if they knew what the game was next." Everyone slowly looked over at the thugs group.
"Those fuckheads." Ji-hye sighed. Bells began to ring
"Lights out in 30 minutes. Please get ready to sleep."
"Another fight might break okay once the lights go out." Ji-hye said "Let's prepare ourselves."
"How so?" Player 196 asked "We have these women and an old man. We're the weakest team here."
"These women can do a lot more than you think." Ji-hye glared at the guy, "I'm tired of hearing people say women are the weakest."
"Let's pick a weak team and attack them first." Player 244 ignored Ji-hye. Player 240 chuckled.
"The Lord's servant is the vicious one here."
"We're all sinners already. Our hands are drenched in blood."
"Offense is the best form of defense. Let's attack first."
"During the fight last night, do you know how the man in front of me died?" Sae-byeok spoke up "Someone he thought was on his side broke his neck. Do you all trust me?" Everyone went quiet "I don't trust any of you."
"All right." Gi-hun got up. "We should focus on protecting ourselves first. Let's set up a barricade before the lights go out. It'll help to have some form of cover."
-
Ji-hye grabbed a metal mat, helping Gi-hun out to protect the front. She sighed, picking up one last mat before, taking a deep breath. She looked up and saw that the thug was walking over to them.
"Hey, Mr.Ssangmun-dong." The thug called Gi-hun stepped and placed the metal down, stepping in front of Ji-hye. "So desperate to stay alive. But... you really think this will help? It looks very drafty." He laughed
"What about you? Those scumbags on your so-called team. Do you really trust them?" This made the thug start to think. "If I were one of them, once the fighting starts at night, I'd take the chance to kill you first. After all, you're the strongest one." Gi-hun blocked the empty space with the metal mat.
"You really got to his head." Ji-hye smiled like a proud mother to Gi-hun, he smiled back . "You saved our asses tonight." Ji-hye looked at the timer and saw there was only a few seconds left before lights went out.
"The lights will go out soon. They won't be able to easily attack us, but let's take turns keeping watch just in case." Gi-hun said to the group
"Let's do it in pairs." Sang-woo added on "There's a chance one person might fall asleep or side with another team to betray us."
"I'll...go first. Old people don't get very sleepy." The old man offered
"Hey, how can we trust an old man like you and fall asleep in peace?"
"Can you just shut up? I'm tired of hearing your damn voice talk." Ji-hye closed her eyes "I'll go first." She wasn't the only one who said it, Sang-woo said it the same time she did
"Then I'll go next. Wake me up when you get tired." Gi-hun nodded
"Then I'll join you if you're okay with that." The old man told him, Gi-hun smiled
"Let's do that."
