TWENTY-NINE

AUTHOR: Before you begin this chapter, I did change up some numbers of the order the players will go by but, the same plot from Squid Game will go on.

☀︎︎𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗧𝗘𝗥 TWENTY-NINE☀︎︎
"Someone will have to make the sacrifice."
———————————————

Tiredness is the word that could Ji-Hye at this moment. She had barely gotten any sleep due to the fact of overthinking and crying. Maybe entering this game was a mistake, she could've been out there looking for a job, making money, paying the debts her fiancé had left her, instead of being inside this hell hole. The lights of the lobby turned on and same music that's been played everyday.

The doors buzzed and opened, guards walked in. Two of the guards had a box that the dead players were placed in. Ji-Hye furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, her eyes followed the direction the guards were walking and her lips pursed together.  Player 069 killed himself by hanging himself the blanket sheets on the top on a bunk bed.

"Player 069 eliminated." The monitor said, Ji-Hye gulped and closed her eyes, it was too late to give up now. Money began to fill up the piggy bank, the screen board showed 16 players left. "The fifth game will begin momentarily. All players, follow staff's instructions and proceed to the game hall."

Ji-Hye ran her fingers through her hair and sighed. She needed to survive this next game and get out of this place, she couldn't handle always seeing dead bodies everywhere and conflict. It was too much to see and understand.

-

All players entered the same white room they've been going to for the past games. But this time it was different than before. There was mannequins, each one of them were numbered from 1-16. Each player would have to choose a number to the next unknown game. Ji-Hye just starred at of them, wanting to choose a number wisely.

"Welcome to the fifth game. Before we begin the game, please choose one of the mannequins numbered from one through sixteen. Let me repeat. Before we begin, please choose one of the mannequins numbered from one through sixteen."

Ji-Hye bit her lip, nervous to choose a number. In games that revolves around numbers, it can either start from one to sixteen or sixteen to one. Player 244 was the first person to walk down the steps and choose a number. Ji-Hye looked onto her left, making eye contact with Sang-Woo, she took a deep breath. Both of them looked at each other, things were still tensed from yesterday but all Sang-Woo could think about is that she'll make it out alive and so did she. Ji-Hye broke the eye contact and looked upfront.

"God created man on the sixth day. I'm going back to that day God created the sinless and innocent man." Player 244 chose number 6, there was 15 remaining. Player 151 went after Player 244 chose his number.

"Okay. Lucky number seven." He lifted off the pink Jersey off of the mannequin.

All of a sudden, all the players began to run and pick a number. Some even fought for picking a number. Ji-Hye began to become more anxious and her head felt like it was spinning. All the middle numbers were taken, Ji-Hye felt like she was doomed.

"Attention, please." The monitor announced, unexpectedly. "The numbers before you are in the order in which you'll be playing. Please choose carefully." Gi-Hun began to walk forward, heading to the front numbers. He stood there, thinking.  Ji-Hye went over and took to opportunity and picked number 15.

After every player choosing a number, all the players entered the fifth game.  Once Ji-Hye stepped foot inside it completely, it looked like a circus she would go when her Grandma and aunt whenever she was little.  Stage lights aimed at the players and across a long talk glass bridge.

"Players, welcome to the fifth game.  The fifth game is Glass Stepping Stones.  Each stepping stone is made of one of two types of glass, tempered glass and normal glass.  Tempered glass can even withstand the weight of two players.  But normal glass will shatter just with one person.  Players, you will decide which one of the two tiles is made of tempered glass, and step on those as you pass through 18 pairs of tiles.  If you safely cross to the other side, you pass."

-

Ji-Hye stood there and blinked as she watched the players go by.  All the players behind number one yelled at him, telling him to go and not waist time.  Then they were cheering for him, giving him motivation saying to help him through to process.  It was like thus until player one stepped on normal glass and felled down.  The other players kept continuing, others lived and others died.  Ji-Hye flinched every time a glass shattered and she just looked down, trembling.  Everyone was breathing hard and trying to figure out which glass step they should pick, one mistake can kill you but help others win.

Player three was a big help in these moments.  He crossed a lot of tiles but one the last one, he fell and it was up to player four to help the rest.  He asked the lady behind him if she remembered which way he went and it turned into a debate.  A lot of players responses was different, out of all the responses, one of them were correct but it was like you couldn't chose one and make a mistake and it did happen so. Ji-Hye became more afraid and her heart felt like it was going to come out her chest. Gi-Hun looked on his right and saw her, he grabbed her arm,
getting her attention.

"There are ten tiles left, and eleven people standing. If they manage to get one or two more tiles right, we'll all be able to cross safely." He tried to reassure Ji-Hye, she just nodded.

"That might not be the case." Sang-Woo interrupted. "If people from the front get scared and waste time, it'll put us at the back in danger." His tone sounded angry and annoyed. Ji-Hye and Gi-Hun turned around, seeing that they had less than ten minutes to pass the bridge.

"It'll be our turn next." Ji-Hye finally spoke. "We just have to be prepared to what comes next."

"That's if the people in front of us hurry up and pick a glass. We have less than ten minutes, they'll need to hurry first before we can go." Sang-Woo looked at her. Ji-Hye just kept looking upfront.

"Sometimes patients is key, Sang-Woo." Ji-Hye gulped "If not, someone will have to make the sacrifice."
