"Red light, green light."
———————————————————

Ji-hye opened her eyes. Upbeat classical music began to play as she woke up. She had thought about the night before, remembering that as soon she got into the van she was put to sleep. Ji-hye sat up slowly seeing other people rising up as well, confused on why they were put to sleep. Ji-hye looked down and saw she had a number 207, sewed on her jacket—wait a minute...when did I ever change into this? She thought. Ji-hye got up quickly from her bed as she heard fighting and yelling in the middle of the room.

Everyone surrounded them, it was a middle, late aged man and a younger girl, she looked around in her early twenties. They stopped fighting for a moment and talked. Looks like they were father and daughter. After a moment of them talking the men went over to hit his daughter, kicked her, dropped her, and a lot of other things that made her mouth bleed. As she was thrown to the ground, Gi-hun pushed the other guy over and grabbed the girl by her collar. What the hell is Gi-hun doing here?

Looks like the girl stole money from Gi-hun when he bumped into her and started to ask for his money back. The older men and Gi-hun were starting to argue, Gi-hun just stop, you're making it worse. The older man was about to attack him but Gi-hun quickly ran away and started shouting that the thug was going to kill him. His constant yelling stopped when there was a beep and the doors opened. People with pink suits, some of them had a circle and only one with a square mask. You couldn't see anything of their identity. This started to get suspicious.

"I would like to extend a hearty welcome to all of you." The squared mask said "Everyone here will participate in six different games over six days. Those who win all six games will receive a handsome cash prize."

"How are we supposed to believe you?" A man spoke up "You suddenly put us to sleep, took away our phones and wallets, then dragged us here to this mysterious place. Now you show up and say you'll pay us handsomely for a few games? Do you expect us to believe that?"

"We had to enforce those procedures." The square masked answered him "To ensure the utmost security in bringing you here. We'll return everything once the games are over."

"How come you are wearing those masks?" A lady asked

"We do not disclose the faces or personal information of our staff to the participants; it's for the sake of fairness and secrecy. Please understand."

"I don't trust a word you just said." Ji-hye froze at the familiar voice, it can't be him. "Enticement, abduction, confinement. After all that illegal activity, you give us these excuses without revealing who you are. Give us one reason why we should trust you."

"Player 218, Cho Sang-woo." The guard dimmed the lights and the tv screen turned on "Age, 46. Former supervisor of Team Two at Joy Investments. Embezzled money from his clients, invested it in derivatives and futures and failed. Current loss, 650 million won." Yup, that's Sang-woo.

After Sang-woo's information was shared, more and more names were mentioned and said how much they were in debt. "All of you in this room have crippling debts and are now on a cliff-edge. When we first went to you. You did not trust us either. But as you know, we played a game and gave you money as promised. And you trusted us and volunteered to participate according to your own free will. You have one last chance to decide."

The room went silent, everyone was thinking twice if they should play or not. Everyone was desperate for money

"Do you want to go back and live out your pathetic lives running from creditors? Or will you seize the last opportunity we are offering?"  Everyone began to mumble responses

"What kind of games are we playing?" A man that was beside Ji-hye spoke up which caused her to look beside her. It was number 199, he isn't from here

"For the sake of fairness, we cannot disclose any information prior to the games."

"Excuse me." Gi-hun spoke up, everyone turned around to look at him "How much is the prize money?

A big piggy bank with a golden color came out from the room. The squared mask explained that after each round of the games the money would be calculated. After everyone looked at the piggy bank they began to feel more easy and excited to get money. Everyone formed a line at the different podiums that were set up. Looked like every play we had to sign a contract.

Clause One: A player is not allowed to voluntarily quit the games.

Clause Two: A player who refuses to play will be eliminated

Clause Three: The games may be terminated upon a majority vote.

  Let the games begin.

Ji-hye walked into a colorful, vivid, beautiful maze. This is the most beautiful design she had ever seen, she fell in love with this maze. As she was walking she heard the robot female voice to look in the camera for a picture. Ji-hye waited her turn, as she was waiting she looked to her left and saw Sang-woo. His curious eyes looked at every detail and tried to figure out what's the next game. As he was about to turn her way, Ji-hye looked away meeting eyes with Gi-hun, Gi-hun looked at her in shock. He didn't expect someone like her to be in debt. Ji-hye looked away since it was her turn. She looked at the camera and half smiled.

Ji-hye followed the man that was in front of her and followed a staircase path that led to green doors being open. When she stepped outside, it felt like a fresh day where it wasn't too hot or too cold which meant that the coldness would start soon. She looked around and saw a huge doll standing there with two guards beside the doll. Her gaze caused her to look at Gi-hun and Sang-woo, after Gi-hun finished talking to him, he went over to where Ji-hye was.

"I didn't expect to meet you here." Gi-hun looked at her, "We just saw each other yesterday." He smiled

"Looks like 'hoping to see you soon' actually made its promise." Ji-hye joked and Gi-hun just patted her shoulder and smiled.

"The first game is Red Light, Green light." The doll spoked up and turned around "You can move forward while the tagged shouts, Green Light, Red light. If your movement is detected afterward, you will be eliminated." This game is a piece of cake, the doll repeated herself. "Those who cross the finish line without getting caught in five minutes pass this round."

"This game should be easy."Ji-hye looked at Gi-hun and he nodded

"Let the games begin." The time began to click and music began to play from the doll. Ji-hye took slow steps following Gi-Hun's motion. Whilst these two men were running. When the music stopped the doll turned around, just her head hit her body. The men with the blonde hair couldn't hold his balance and was wobbly

"Player 324, Eliminated." A gunshot was fired that caused Ji-hye to jump a bit but didn't get caught. Player 324 fell to the ground lifeless. Is he actually dead? The dolls head turned again and the singing continued, mostly all the players didn't move except 324's friend. He went up to check on his friend but stopped when the doll turned her head around. The friend said something to 324 but blood came out his mouth. He didn't know how to react but just to run toward the door but his motion was caught which caused a bullet to go through him and his blood landed on a woman's face.

The woman touched her face and screamed. Which caused her to get shot. Most of the players began to run away from the doll. Gunshots filled the room, Ji-hye didn't know what to do but then stood still , trying her best to not shake, her breath began to get heavier and gulped. Everyone that was moving kept on getting shot when one of the dead people landed on Gi-hun which made him fall back. Gi-hun began to shake a bit and look at the lifeless body that was on his lap. A random lady that was running away got shot and made Ji-hye fall back hard to the ground, fucking idiot.

"Let me repeat. You can move forward while the tagged shouts, Green Light, Red light. If your movement is detected afterward, you will be eliminated." The doll repeated and turned around. The music started to play. No one moved beside an old man. Ji-hye was afraid to move the dead woman's body, she didn't know how to feel. The dolls' music began to get faster and faster.

Ji-hye just sat there flinching at every gunshot that came through the room. She finally removed the dead body that was on top of her and quickly got up before the doll could turn her head. She saw that Gi-hun was still on the ground. She wanted to help him but she couldn't risk losing in the first round. Ji-hye quickly ran with her back still hurting once the doll's head turned.

There were fifty-eight seconds on the clock and Ji-hye was almost close to the end. She tried to calm herself down since there were a lot of dead bodies laying around. As soon as the doll's head turned she ran the quickest she could ever run and threw herself to the end of the line. When she landed she didn't feel the hard ground but a hard back. She got up from the person's back.

"I'm sorry, didn't mean to land on you, I was trying-" Ji-hye stopped her sentence when she saw who she bumped into "Sang-woo?"

  "Ji-hye."
