I was waiting for you. But time didn't wait for me. Time kept on passing as I waited for you every day. Each day, hoping you'd come save me. Foolishly, I waited... But you never did.

I paused for you. But time didn't pause for me. 

It kept passing. And so, my childhood passed too. The time when I most needed you passed smoothly. With nothing and no bounds to stop it.

You have been like a shadow to me. You don't make me feel lonely. But you remind me just how lonely I am. And that's just plain cruel. How could you play with me in such a heartless way?

Is that how you make yourself feel better about who you are? Did you find comfort in fiction because real happiness rejected you? Was it easier to pretend than admit you never knew how to be happy?

Even a piece of wood must have more dignity than you. At least it protects the more delicate part of the tree, even if it means harming its own tired, old self. But you? What did you do?

Why are you only a shadow for me, when all I ever want is to be your sunshine? Where were your tries when all I needed was your reassuring embrace? But all of that... It doesn't matter anymore. 

Because I have finally found my peace within myself. Because I have found the strength to protect myself. So now, tell me.

What have you ever been to me... If not a shadow?
