"Damn, this is good," Cas exclaims, her mouth full of food. Alexa and Jess can't help but laugh at their friend, her cheeks as big as a chipmunk's. Their waiter swings by to clear their plates.
"Can I get the check when you have a second," Jess asks, the man nodding and leaving the three girls.
"So how are you feeling, Cassie," Alexa asks, wiping the corners of her mouth with a napkin. Cas shrugs.
"Eh. I'm a lot better than I was yesterday but I still need to talk to Josh-,"
"Called it!" Alexa lightly punches Jess's bicep.
"Oww," Jess whines, giggling quietly.
"What exactly did you call?" Cas inquires, squinting at her friend.
"That what Lily told us was true! There is something between you and Josh," she vocalizes.
"There's nothing between us," Cas informs.
"Yeah, nothing yet," Jess mumbles, earning a chuckle from Alexa.
"What even makes you think such a thought?"
"Hmm, I don't know. Maybe that Josh doesn't seem to fit into any of the stuff that's been going on recently and now you have to 'talk to him' about it," Jess giggles, using air quotes around her respective phrase. Cas rolls her eyes and shakes her head at her delinquent, but lovable friends.
After paying, the three exit the restaurant and browse the small boutiques and shops that the town has to offer. Once each of them purchases a few articles, they decide to head back to the apartment and get a head start on dinner.
"Let's go see Josh and Lily do a part of their scene really quick before we head back," Alexa suggests as the three girls journey across the landscape. Neither Jess or Cassie says no, so they find their way to the dock where they're filming the duo's song. They stand back with most of the behind-the-scenes workers as they watch Lily and Josh strategically dance around the sailboat.
Cas considers Lily one of her best friends, but, she can't help but feel jealousy running through her veins.
The way Josh is looking at her, the way he approaches her, the way he touches her. Every few seconds she tries to remind herself that 'they're just acting,' but some other force in her body is instinctively influencing her to be mad. She tries not to observe for too long, insisting that it's time to start dinner back at the flat. The other two girls notice her agony, and the three of them quickly head back to the apartment.
Time flies by and everyone who has returned from work is contributing to cooking the 'Family Meal'. Jeremy is grilling the chicken, Cas heats up the dinner rolls, Alexa prepares the vegetables, Hugh is tossing a salad, and Jess is baking dessert. It's insane how many people can work together to make something incredible. Lily and Josh arrive back by evening, excited for the all the food they're ready to consume. Once everything's done, they plate it up and eat outside on the balcony.
They chat, laugh, drink, eat, and have fun. It seems as if all previous tension has been uplifted, until - -
"Mm, Lily! Alexa, Cas, and I stopped by your guys' shoot today," Jess exclaims as she cuts her chicken.
"Really?! Aww, I love that," Lily grins. "What'd you think?"
"Amazing!" Alexa cheers. "That song is great, and the choreo is unbeatable," says Jess. "Your on-screen chemistry is ridiculously good, too."
"Yeah, it really looks like he loves you. It's like you can't even tell that you're acting," Cas mumbles sassily under her breath, receiving a slap on the leg from Jess. Lily leaned forward onto the table, turning her head.
"What Cas? I actually didn't hear you," she asks, requesting the girl to repeat what she had missed.
"I just said that it looked brilliant!" She smiles at her friend.
"Thank you, babe," she replies, sitting back down in her chair and taking a sip of wine. Although Lily had not heard her snappy remark, the boy glaring at her from across the table sure did. Josh takes a big sip of his wine, hoping it eases his nerves as the tension with his assistant rises once again. Cas refrains from even looking at him after her inclination today.
Once dinner was over, Cas volunteers to wash all the dishes, giving her some time to be alone in the kitchen. She cleans the plates for about thirty minutes before she senses another person in the room with her. The figure walks past and straight outside, Cas only able to catch a glimpse at his blond hair from the back.
With so much emotional energy built up inside of her, she throws her sponge into the sink and walks out to the deck, as well. She watches the boy lights his cigarette before he turns to face her. He pulls it from his lips, clenching his teeth and sharply inhaling the smoke.
They stare at each other for a few minutes before one of them chooses to speak up...
