Chapter 10: Training
Next morning, Eva woke me up and we quickly changed into the white and black track suits which Rhiannon had kept for us. As we arrived at the stadium, Rhiannon greeted us and introduced us to our first lesson- sword fighting. It's was very tiring.
Rhiannon trained us really well. Despite her old age, she fought with all her might. Eva seemed to be a little weak at it but I helped her out. During spell chanting classes Rhiannon told us that we would have to abide by a major rule. It was that we could never doubt her regarding the way she taught us. We agreed to that.
She taught us how to use wands in different ways and to use power against Alaric. Eva learnt them really fast and helped me out as I was facing a few difficulties. During history classes, we learnt about the history of Bellendis and also about Alaric. During wrestling lessons we learnt tricks to defeat the opponent. All throughout, we never stepped outside Pura Councillium.
As the days past by, Eva and I had learnt a lot. We started mastering the skills like professionals. Also, Eva and I started to miss our families a lot.
One day, I asked Rhiannon, " Is there any way we can meet our families? It's been almost a month since we saw them."
Rhiannon replied, "Of course you can meet them. But only when the right time comes. Plus, it's one month over here but in your world, only half a month has passed."
I sighed.
"Concentrate on your training, Cal. Your main focus should be on defeating Alaric." She said. I realized that she was right. We were the chosen ones. We had responsibilities that had to be fulfilled.
After a few more days, Eva asked Rhiannon, "How much training is left to do? When are we going to face Alaric?"
Rhiannon replied calmly, " When you're ready."
"Don't you think we are ready? We've been training for the last two months!" Eva exclaimed.
"You aren't ready at all. There's a lot to do. Since you have doubted me, you'll be given a punishment."
"What punishment?" I asked curiously.
"You're physical training will be stopped from tommorow." She said.
"What? But you said that we aren't ready." I said.
"Yes, but a punishment is a punishment. Your new schedule will be put up on the door of your room. Don't be late." She said and walked off, as though she didn't care about us anymore.
We went back to our room, took a shower, had supper and went to bed.
The next morning, we looked at the new schedule and froze. We never expected Rhiannon to be so harsh on us. We went in search of her. When we found her, I asked "Why are you doing this?"
"Doing what?" She asked, naively.
"You know what we're talking about! You removed all our lessons instead of just changing them." Eva said.
"My grandmother sent us here to kill Alaric. We came her to learn and you just stopped our lessons?" I asked furiously.
"By both your behaviors, I truly doubt how she chose you to come here the first place." Rhiannon replied.
"What? How could you say that Rhiannon? Why are you being so harsh with us? What have we done?" I demanded for answers.
"That's enough. Both of you off to your first task." She said and turned us down.
Disappointed, Eva and I went and attended our so called first task- washing utensils. After that we had to carry buckets of water from one end to another to water the plants of the garden, then cook lunch, serve lunch to the people of the Councillium and do security duty.
Doing all this, a month past by and one fine day, I broke down.
"You told us that we'd fight Alaric! And here, we're doing everything but that! You're really cunning. I should have known! You've made us your servants! That's it! We should have never come here! We're not staying here anymore! We're going back home! I don't care about your stupid world anymore! Come on Eva, let's go." I pulled Eva along with me as I stormed outside. "Wait." I heard a voice behind us. I stopped for a minute. It was surprising to know that Rhiannon had been patiently listening to me all this time. She said, "This whole time, you have been training. Why are you complaining so much?"
"What do you mean?" Eva asked.
"Look at it from my view. I made you wash utensils so that you would learn the art of not giving up. I made you water the plants to teach you the art of caring. Cooking lunch was so that you could learn the art of patience. Serving people was to make you learn the art of socializing. Finally, I made you do security duty so that you could become alert and cautious. Haven't I trained you enough?" She asked, curiously.
For a moment, I felt so uncomfortable from within. She was right. Eva and I had been so stupid to not recognize the purposes of these activities.
We turned around and at once ran and hugged her. "We're so sorry. We shouldn't have doubted you at all. I'm really sorry for misbehaving with you." apologized on our behalf. She hugged us back and ran her fingers through our hair. "Mistakes happen. I have made a lot too. We learn from our mistakes. I'm not upset with any of you. You both are now ready, both physically and mentally." She said.
"You really think so?" Eva asked.
"Yes. Training time is up. Now it's time to show Alaric who the true heroes are."
