Road Trip
"Yo, Scotty. Hey, yo, Scotty? Still with me?" Stiles said, snapping his fingers in front of Scott's face after the Stilinski boy noticed him starting to close his eyes, not realizing Will on the other side of him was barely staying awake himself.
Scott turned to Stiles, nodding his head. "Yeah, sorry. Uh, what's the word?" Stiles cleared his throat, looking at the ipad. "Anachronism." Stiles said just as Will fell asleep, his head falling onto Stiles' shoulder.
Stiles looked down at Will and sighed. "Oh, great. You too." Scott turned to Stiles and Will, scrunching his face. "You're not gonna wake him up?"
Stiles pursed his lips and shook his head. "No... no. But I probably couldn't anyway. Heavy sleeper." As soon as those words left Stiles' mouth, the bus road over a speed bump, making Will's head barely lift off Stiles' shoulder before slamming back down.
Will groaned, lifting his head off of Stiles' shoulder. Stiles patted his shoulder as Will rubbed his eyes. "You're okay, Bubba." Stiles said playfully before turning to Scott. "Now, come on, Scott. Anachronism." Stiles said again and Scott sighed. "Something that exists out of its normal time."
Stiles nodded, swiping to the next word. "Nice. Okay, next word... incongruous." Will's face scrunched, having never heard the word before. Scott sighed tiredly, shaking his head. "Um, can you use it in a sentence?"
Stiles let out a huff, nodding his head. "Yes. Yes, I can. It's completely incongruous that we're sitting on a bus right now, on our way to some stupid cross-country meet after what just happened... incongruous."
Scott let out an airy chuckle. "Out of place, ridiculous, absurd." Stiles clicked his tongue, nodding his head. "Perfect. Okay, next word. Um, Darach. Darach, it's a noun."
Will rolled his eyes at Scott's face. "Dude... We have to talk about it sometime, okay?" Stiles nodded in agreement with Will. "And we're gonna be stuck in this thing for, like, five hours, so why not?" Will's face dropped as he turned to Stiles. "Five hours?!"
Stiles turned to Will slowly, giving him a dull look. "Yes, Will. Five hours. Get with the program. Next word. Next word... Intransigent." Will groaned, putting his head back on Stiles' shoulder.
"Stubborn, obstinate." Scott said as the bus ran over another speed bump, making the bus shake. Scott groaned in pain, making Will lift his head off Stiles' shoulder, both boys turning to him.
"Oh, buddy, you okay?" Will asked and Scott only answered with another groan, making Stiles scoff. "We shouldn't have come. I knew it. We shouldn't have come."
"We had to. There's safety in numbers." Scott mumbled
Yeah, well, there's also death in numbers, okay? It's called a massacre... Or bloodbath, carnage, slaughter, butchery, wow, that's..." "I think that's enough." Will whispered and Stiles nodded, turning back to Scott. "All right, Scott... I'm telling Coach that we-" "No. No, no, no. I'm all right."
Will scoffed at his words, looking down at his phone. "Well, you don't look all right." Stiles whacked Will's shoulder before turning back to Scott. "Would you just let us see it?"
"I'm okay." Scott reassured, making Will roll his eyes, turning to Scott. "Just let us see it, okay?"
After a few seconds, Scott nodded. "Okay." He slowly lifted his shirt to reveal a large scratch on his side, not healing.
Will cringed, scrunching his face and turning away. "Oh, dude..." Scott sighed, pulling his shirt back down. "I know it's bad, but it's because they're from an alpha. It'll take longer to heal."
Will looked ahead of the bus and saw Isaac and Boyd; Isaac on his phone while Boyd stared straight ahead. Stiles looked to where Will was looking and scoffed. "How come Boyd and Isaac are fine then?"
Scott ignored Stiles, leaning his head against the window sadly. "I can't believe he's dead. I can't believe Derek's dead."
...
Stephanie laid sprawled out in Allison's backseat after Allison practically dragged her out of her house to go follow the boys and bring Lydia along.
"Am I getting too close? I'm getting way too close, aren't I?" Allison mumbled and Stephanie turned her head to look at the road. "I can see the back of Stiles and Will's heads from here."
Lydia instantly nodded in agreement, turning to the huntress. "Yeah... Are you just following the bus, or are you planning on mounting it at some point?"
Allison sighed, slowing down slightly. "Yeah, I should back off." Lydia tilted her head sarcastically. "Well, that also depends. Do you mean the bus or the ex-boyfriend you're currently stalking?"
Allison sighed, ground the steering wheel tighter. "Well, after it happened, I'm not letting him out of my sight." Lydia quickly raised her brows as Stephanie picked at her nails.
Allison looked at the two, slightly offended. "And by the way, this all started because I cared about our friend, Steph. With Will and Isaac going on this trip and both her parents working all hours, she would be home alone." Allison said and Stephanie chuckled, rolling her eyes. "Don't use me as an excuse. If you were worried about me being alone, we could've just done a sleepover not a road trip."
Allison sighed at the fact she got caught, bringing her hand back and rubbing Stephanie's leg before continuing to drive.
...
"Two of you, back in your seats. Jared, again, car sick! How do you even get on the bus? Look at me. No, don't look at me. Look at the horizon. Keep your eyes... keep your eyes on the horizon." Coach screamed before his eyes fell on the almost unconscious Scott, making him groan. "McCall, not you too."
Scott quickly sat up, clearing his throat. "No, coach, I'm good." Stiles elbowed Will's ribs and pointed to Scott's shirt wear he started to bleed again. Stiles cleared his throat, looking to Scott worriedly. "Hey, Scott, you're bleeding again. And don't tell me that it's just taking longer to heal, okay? Because I'm pretty sure that still bleeding means not healing, like, at all."
"He's listening." Scott mumbled, completely ignoring Stiles as he looked to Ethan. Will's eyes went slightly wide as he leaned closer to Stiles and Scott. "Is he gonna do something?" Scott instantly shook his head at the question. "Not in front of this many people."
"Okay, well, what about the two ticking time bombs sitting right near him?" Stiles grumbled, pointing to Isaac and Boyd towards the front of the bus. Scott tired to catch his breath as he slowly shook his head. "No, they won't. Not here."
"Plus, Isaac is kinda calm today, Stephanie's updating me because he keeps texting and calling her." Will said and Stiles rolled his eyes, turning to face Will. "From right behind us?" Will eyes went wide. "You know?"
Stiles turned around, pointing at Allison's car behind them. "Kinda hard not to notice." Will sighed, turning to Stiles quickly. "I didn't tell you anything."
...
"Crisis averted?" Stiles asked after Scott came back from checking on Boyd. When Scott nodded, Will let out a hum. "Okay, good. Cause we got another problem. Ethan keeps checking his phone, like, every five minutes."
Stiles nodded in agreement. "It's like he's waiting for something, you know, like, a message or a signal of some kind. I don't know, something evil though, I can tell. I have a very perceptive eye for evil, but you know that."
"I don't like him sitting with Danny." Will cringed shaking his head slightly, Stiles sucked in a breath of air, nodding his head. "Yeah, neither do I. I'm gonna see what he's waiting for."
Will watched over Stiles' shoulder as he texted Danny. The boy a few rows away, turned back to Stiles, shaking his head.
Stiles groaned, texting the boy again, making Will sigh. "What are you doing?" Stiles slowly turned to Will, showing his phone. "Uh... I'm texting Danny. God, how hard did your head hit my shoulder on that speed bump?"
Will rolled his eyes, taking the phone out of Stiles' hand. "That's not what I meant. You obviously don't know how to annoy someone through text."
Will started texting Danny by the word through Stiles' phone before noticing Ethan slowly turn to Danny. Will passed the phone back to Stiles, watching the two converse before Ethan whipped around to look at the three.
Scott and Stiles fell into their row, Stiles grabbing Will's shoulders and pulling him down with them. "Well, that wasn't very subtle." Stiles muttered.
After a few seconds, Stiles' phone beeped and the three quickly looked down to read the text.
'Someone close to him is sick. Might not make it through the night.'
"Ennis?" Scott asked, slowly looking up to Will and Stiles. Will slowly looked up, slightly wide eyed. "Okay, so does that mean, uh... He's not dead." Stiles slowly turned to Will. "Not yet."
"Jared, I'm warning you. I'm an empathetic vomiter. You throw up, I'm gonna throw up right back on you. And it will be profoundly disgusting." Coach screamed, making Will turn his head to Coach and Jared, slightly cringing.
Jared swallowed, shaking his head. "Please don't talk about throwing up. It's not good."
Coach scoffed, looking down at the kid. "I might throw up on you just to make a point, Jared." Will let out a low hum, throwing his hands in the air slightly. "Maybe don't provoke it."
Coach rolled his eyes, turning to Will. "Saticoy, I already got your sister being a smartass with me. Don't you start." Will slumped slightly as Coach looked to the rest of the kids. "Now the rest of you, don't think we're gonna miss this meet because of a slight traffic jam, a minor tornado warning, Jared. We're gonna make this thing. Nothing is gonna stop us! Stilinski, put your hand down."
Stiles groaned, dropping his hand. "You know, there's, like, a food exit about a half a mile up. I don't know if we stop and then mayb-" "We're not gonna stop." Coach interrupted.
Stiles sighed. "Okay, but if we stop-" "Stilinski!" Coach yelled, blowing his whistle. "Shut it! Seriously! It's a little bus! Stop asking me questions!" Coach screamed and Stiles leaned back in his seat, bringing his hand to his face. "I hate him." Stiles mumbled and Will patted his shoulder.
He quickly turned to Scott who started to look feverish again. "Did you call Deaton?" Scott sighed, looking down at his phone. "I keep getting his voice mail."
Stiles groaned at his words, pulling out his phone. "That's it. I'm calling Steph and the girls." Scott's brows furrowed, turning to Stiles. "How are they gonna help, back in Beacon Hills?"
Will hummed, shaking his head. "They're not. They've been following us for hours." Stiles nodded, scoffing as he called Stephanie. "Pathetic."
...
Stephanie rested her head on the back of Lydias seat when her phone rang. She quickly picked up her phone and groaned. "Ah, shit! That little snitch." Stephanie grumbled at Stiles' name glowing on the screen. Allison spun around to Stephanie. "Did you tell Will?"
Stephanie shrunk in her seat slightly. Allison groaned, putting her head against the steering wheel. "Steph! We went over this last week! Will cannot keep his mouth shut!"
Stephanie shot up, leaning in between the seats. "I didn't tell Will! I told Isaac and he told Will." Lydia's phone rang and she groaned, smacking Stephanie's head to shut up as she answered. "Hey, Stiles. Yeah, we're just about to walk into a movie, uh, you know, the popcorn and- Yeah. Okay."
She quickly out the phone on speaker and Stiles instantly started talking. "Okay, look, Scott's still hurt."
Allison froze slightly, losing her grip on the steering wheel, making Stephanie quickly lean forward, taking the wheel. "What do you mean still? He's not healing?"
Stiles sighed through the phone. "No, he's not healing. I think he's actually getting worse. The blood's turning, like, a black color."
Stephanie's jaw dropped, turning to the phone, making her lose focus on the road. Allison yelped, grabbing the wheel from Stephanie and quickly readjusted the car as Stephanie looked at Lydias phone in shock. "What's wrong with him?"
Stiles scoffed. "What's wrong with him? I don't... Do I have a PhD in lycanthropy? How am I supposed to know that?" Stephanie rolled her eyes at Stiles, leaning back into her seat as Lydia sighed. "We need to get him off the bus."
"And take him where, a hospital?" Stiles said sarcastically and Allison rolled her eyes, turning to face the phone. "If he's dying, yeah. Stiles, there's a rest area about a mile up. Tell the coach to pull over."
Stiles groaned. "Yeah, I've been trying." Lydia sighed, tilting her head slightly in annoyance. "Well, reason with him."
"Reason? Have you met this guy?" Stiles snapped and Stephanie groaned, going back in between the front seats to get closer to the phone. "Just try something." Stephanie snapped before hanging up the phone.
Lydia slowly turned around, looking at Stephanie in shock. "What's the matter with you?" Stephanie laid down in the seats, her hands going to her eyes before moving two of her fingers to have her left eye look around as she kept her gaze on Allison. "Someone woke me up at 5am."
"That's when they leave for this thing!" Allison screamed and before Stephanie could say anything else, the three girls noticed the bus starting to pull over.
They quickly followed the bus into a rest stop parking lot and watched as the bus didn't even get to stop before kids started running out of it.
Stephanie, Lydia and Allison got out of the car and ran towards the bus just as Will and Stiles carried out a pale and weak looking Scott. "Oh, my god." Stephanie whispered as Allison looked back at forth between Will and Stiles, glaring at them. "Why didn't you tell us?"
Will frowned slightly as they led Scott into the restrooms. "Sorry."
The two boys quickly set him down by the sinks and Allison ran over to Scott, lifting up his shirt to show the scratches. Stephanie felt Lydia grab her arm in shock as Stephanie's jaw dropped slightly at the sight.
Allison let out a huff of breath before pulling his shirt back down. "Just give us a second, okay?" Scott weakly nodded and Allison ran to the others on the other side of the bathroom, shaking her head. "This shouldn't be happening. I've seen him heal from worse than this."
"Okay, what do we do then? Do we just call an ambulance?" Stiles stuttered out and Will crossed his arms, looking at Scott. "What if it's too late? What if they can't help?"
Stephanie shook her head. "We gotta do something." "You know, it could be psychological." Lydia spoke up, making everyone turn to her. "What do you mean, like, psychosomatic?" Stiles asked. "Somatoformic." Lydia corrected.
Will opened and closed his mouth, never having heard the word before, making Lydia sigh. "A physical illness from a psychogenic cause." After still getting confused looks from the group, she nodded. "Yes, it's all in his head."
Stiles huffed, running a hand through his hair. "All in his head? Because of Derek." "He's not letting himself heal cause Derek died." Stephanie muttered.
"So what do we do?" Will asked and Lydia pursed her lips. "Stitch him up." The four looked at her like she was crazy, making her raise her hands. "I'm serious. Maybe all he needs to do is just believe it's healing."
Allison quickly pulled out her mini emergency kit from her bag and quickly handed it to Stephanie. "Can you find the needle? Heat it up?" Stephanie nodded, digging through the bag as Allison ripped Scott's shirt.
"He's gonna need another shirt. Where's his bag?" Allison asked as Stephanie held her index finger up as she lit the needle. Stiles looked around before pointing outside. "Um, I'm gonna get it. I hate needles anyway, so..."
"Uh, do you know what you're doing?" Will asked, watching Allison worriedly. Allison sighed, nodding her head. "Yeah, my father taught me.
Stiles pulled his lips into a line, looking back and forth between the exit and Scott. "I mean, how fast are you gonna... I mean, the bus, like, the bus could leave."
"Well, you just make sure it doesn't leave." Allison muttered and Will patted Stiles shoulder. "We can help. Come on." Stiles nodded at Will, them and Lydia running out of the room.
Stephanie looked up from the needle to Allison. "Once this is done heating up, are you gonna need any help?" Allison let out a breathy chuckle, shaking her head. "I got it."
Stephanie nodded, looking down at the needle to find it finish heating up, she let the flame on her finger sizzle out as she handed Allison the cool end. "He's gonna be okay."
Allison nodded at Stephanie's words, giving her a small smile. "I know." She whispered, her voice cracking slightly. Stephanie rubbed the girls shoulder before running out of the bathrooms.
As soon as Stephanie walked outside, she noticed everyone crowded around a tree, chanting. She immediately started walking towards the crowd and when Will noticed her, he ran up in a panic.
"Will, what's happening?" Stephanie asked as Will grabbed her arm, pulling her towards the crowd faster. "We didn't know how to get the bus to stop and then Boyd and Isaac kept asking what was wrong with Scott so we told 'em what was happening with him and they just went after him. It's stopping the bus from leaving." Will rambled.
Stephanie turned to Will with furrowed brows. "Who, Boyd?" She asked before noticing Boyd standing beside Stiles and Stephanie sighed.
She quickly pushed herself through the crowd until she got to the center where Isaac was beating up Ethan.
"Isaac!" Stephanie screamed and Isaac stopped his fist, slowly letting go of Ethan's collar.
Danny quickly ran up to Ethan as Isaac slowly backed away from him, bumping his back into Stephanie who quickly grabbed onto his arms and pulled him away from the fight before Coach could yell at him.
Stephanie pulled him into the girls restrooms, taking his hands and running them under the sink to wash off Ethan's blood. Isaac sighed, shaking his head. "I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me. I just... I got so angry."
Stephanie shook her head, keeping her eyes on his hands. "It's okay. We all get angry." Stephanie mumbled as she finished washing his right hand, starting his left.
Isaac felt a dreamy smile come on his face as he looked at her. He went up behind her, pinning her to the sink as his chest pressed against her back, resting his chin on top of her head, giving her kisses every once and a while, putting his hands out in front of both of them so she can continue washing his hands.
The pair pulled away at the sound of Coach's whistle blowing through the air. Stephanie chuckled, turning around to look up at Isaac as she grabbed his hands. "We should get going."
Isaac laughed, nodding his head and squeezing her hand as they walked out of the restrooms and to the bus.
...
"All right. Let's go over this one more time." Stiles told Will, clapping his hands together. Will sighed, nodding his head. "So it's these weird sacrifices, right? Everything has to do with them and someone who thinks he's a dark druid of some kind."
Stiles nodded, slowly pointing at him in agreement. "Or actually is a dark druid." "A Darach." Will said, making Stiles smile and nodded.
Lydia quickly popped her head out from the row behind them, making the boys jump. "You know... Some ancient cultures sacrificed people in preparation for battle." Lydia said and Stiles sighed. "So we got alpha werewolves against a dark druid."
Lydia pulled her lips into a line, nodding her head. "Yeah." Will sighed, leaning back into his seat. "Fantastic." He mumbled sarcastically.
...
"So you followed us the whole way here?" Isaac asked, a big smirk on his face. Stephanie held back a smile as she let out a playful scoff. "I was dragged out of my bed to make sure you were safe. I don't need that big cute smirk staring at me like that."
Isaac smiled, wrapping an arm around Stephanie's waist, pulling her into his side as he kissed her temple. "You called my smirk cute."
Stephanie groaned, making Isaac laugh, pulling her in tighter. "Okay, okay, I'm done. Get some rest, babe." Isaac whispered, resting his head on Stephanie's head as both of them drifted off into sleep.
