Chapter Two

"Yes! Yes! Yes!" Petty shouted from the passenger seat of Teddy's Toyota white corolla.

"Why are you celebrating?" I asked confused as to why she was so excited to see me stumble down the steps in my only pair of heels.

"Oh Teddy owes me money." She started to explain as I clambered into the backseat.

"We had a bet about what you were going to wear. He said you were going to wear your jeans and that pink silky tank top and I said you would wear the blue form fitting dress with the cut-outs at the side"

I looked down at the Caribbean blue form fitting dress that Petty was referring to and rolled my eyes.

"Wow I didn't realize I was that predictable"

"It's ok your predictability gets me paid" she said smiling at me through the rear view mirror.

"Yea and I lose money." Teddy adds as he backed out of my driveway.

"I thought you had my back Lisa".

The sad thing was that, the jeans and pink tank were actually my first option but I found the blouse with a stain on it, in the laundry pile. Still, I wouldn't give him the satisfaction. That's what he gets for ruining lazy day.

"I would but you ruined my day."

"Your day is about to get a whole lot better my friend"

"Where exactly are we going?" They both looked at each other.

"Please can I tell her?" she pleaded.

After a little delay, he nods slightly and she squeals. She is way too excited for this. She reached into her bag and pulled out three card looking things. She handed one to me and I had to squint my eyes to get them to focus on the words.

Something about General Admission, New... something...Then I froze when I saw the words read "concert". I looked up at Petty who was watching me all this time. I took a deep breath and started to squeal and as if on que, she squealed along with me for a solid 10 seconds. When I was running out of air I took another breath.

"How did you... when did you... what?" I tried to ask. Tickets were sold out the minute they went live. The Croonix never came to Jamaica, so when I saw that they were doing a small exclusive concert my mind was set on seeing them but I didn't get any tickets. I had given up on that dream weeks ago.

But Teddy being the amazing person he was must have bought tickets for us. I wanted to awe audibly but decided against it.

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!" I said hugging him awkwardly around his neck from the backseat. Ugh! Croonix in concert wow. I couldn't believe it! Moments later, when the shock wore off a little, I plugged in my phone to his car stereo and started to play all Croonix songs just to make sure I remembered all the lyrics. We bumped their music all the way to the venue, The National Stadium in Mountain View.

....

We arrived at the venue with 10 minutes to spare to the start of the concert. Most people were already inside so, it wasn't a long wait to get inside the stadium.

The stage was set-up on the field with sections around it barricaded off. We walked down the bleachers section of the stadium and walked onto the field. The crowd was a little bigger than I thought it would be; 200 people maybe? It was filled with children and their parents with a few young adults standing around.

We found a little area slightly to the left at the back. We had a good view of the stage, but weren't in the crowd. It would be weird for me as a 23 year old to be jumping and screaming with the 12 year olds, plus I needed room to let loose when "Hurts Good" came on.

Petty and I stood to either side of Teddy with our arms interlocked with his waiting for the concert to start. She took out her phone and made an Instagram story about us being at the concert.

We were all smiles when the lights dimmed to a dark blue hue. We saw the silhouettes of each band member walk out on stage. Then Robert, the keyboardist, started playing the opening chords to All Night and the crowd erupted in cheers and screams, my voice amongst them.

The lead singer, James' voice swept over the crowd and I tore away from Teddy and Petty and joined the crowd of teenagers, no longer caring about the weird looks I might have gotten. In my mind I had worked hard all week and it was time to let loose at this concert. Once the music got in me there was no stopping me.

Before I knew it I was sweating from dancing and we were only on the second song. I looked at all band members who were rocking out just as hard, the drummer especially. His hair was flopping all over, as he showed the drums no mercy that night. We were several songs in, and I had completely forgotten about the people I came with. What were their names again? This was what being single was about, living in the moment. By the time Hurts Good came on, James' shirt was fully unbuttoned and my hair was dripping wet. That's when my waist really let loose.

I was singing at the top of my lungs and arms in the air. When the song was over I was still lost in the music. I was still dancing when the drummer decided to throw his drumsticks out to the crowd. My arms were still up and it landed perfectly in my palm, almost as if he'd aimed it directly at me.

Everyone around me was jumping, pushing and grasping for it and it landed in my hand; Like when a bride throws her bouquet to the single ladies. The teenagers were grabbing at it still and I pushed my way back out to where I left Teddy and Petty; still grasping the drumstick in the air.

Petty's eyes widened when she saw what was in my hand.

"Holy shit! You caught it!"
