Chapter Two: Ease of Magick

I opened my eyes slowly, grimacing at the faint light showing around my covered window. My head ached like a bitch and my mouth felt disgusting. I had gotten a bit too rowdy last night and I shifted as I sat up. I rubbed my face with a faint groan before tossing my covers back. The cool air swept over my bare skin and I glanced down at my bed and the other occupant laying there, his face buried in one of my pillows.

"You know the drill, Marquis. I'm having a shower, clear out before I'm done." I wasn't one who liked to have morning afters with my one night stands. It didn't matter that Marquis was more or less slightly regular in how often I fucked him. I didn't want complications following me home.

He groaned slightly but nodded, tossing the covers off himself as well, exposing his rather lithe but muscled physique wrapped in pale blue skin. I nodded to myself, happy he would be gone by the time I came out and headed to the bathroom. It was small and dark but then again I essentially had party house above my bar. Eve and Raph lived with me in the flat above the bar and space was just... limited. We didn't have a big house with large spaces. I made due with what was there.

I had a quick shower, cleaning up quick and without fuss. I knew I would need to start cleaning the bar. I could only imagine how much of a mess there was after I had gotten a little wild with that asshole werewolf. I grimaced and rubbed at my forehead as I got out and dried off. I towel dried my hair as best as I could as I walked out in the bedroom before tossing it up into a bun before I threw on some clothes, sniffing them to make sure they weren't too off smelling. I was gad to see Marquis had cleared out. I really didn't do morning afters.

I had a bit of a headache and felt rundown and tired but I ignored it as I headed out into the main space of the flat. I grabbed a cup from the cupboard before moving over to the potions cupboard and waving my hand lazily. My magick flowed through me as the enchantments locking my potions cupboard unravelled enough for me to pull open the door. I grabbed my hangover potion that my mum had created a recipe for and tossed a dash into the cup before setting it back and waving my hand again.

The door closed behind me and the enchantments tightened up once more as I moved to grab the only available bottle of liquid on the counter with a slow blink. I shrugged at the vodka label and tossed a dash of the alcohol into the potion before I downed it. "Blech." I made a face as I set the cup in the sink. That had been just nasty but I knew I would appreciate it in a few minutes.

"I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to mix alcohol with that, Red." At the rough sounding voice I made another face and flipped Raph off. The other Fae woman chuckled slightly as she came over. "Gotta clean up the bar. It got a little more rowdy after you and Marquis left to take your trip to boom town."

At the words I shrugged. "I figured I would need to clean up. I did dump a bottle of beer all over my counter and floor." That would be fucking sticky and I knew I had no one to blame but myself for it. It had been worth it though. Sooo worth it. I heaved out a sigh as I glanced at the nearly glowing yellow Fae. I never could figure out what it was about her that made her skin colour damn near glow both in the dark and in the light but I honestly didn't care too much. She was good worker, if a bit rough around the edges.

"Probably going to need to order some more booze. I noticed our keg stock was getting low and we are down to only a few boxes of tequila and spiced rum." Raph grabbed cup for herself and I nodded.

"Do it and forge my signature on everything that needs to be signed for. If anyone complains, tell them I will pay them a visit and I will return with their balls stuffed in my pocket." I didn't want to deal with stupidity and I didn't care about the legalities. I was giving Raph permission and if anyone argued, I would neuter them.

"And if they're female?" Raph smirked slightly as she looked at me and I rolled my eyes.

"I've got the ability to make them grow some balls that I can then rip off. The threat remains the same." I didn't want to be called in to deal with that bullshit. I was going to clean the bar and then I was going to head back into my bedroom and crash for the rest of the day. If anyone bothered me during that time, I would not be nice about retaliating.

"Perfect. I'll deal with it then." Raph poured herself a glass of water from the tap and cursed at the rust coloured water that came through it. "For fuck's sake! The pipes are getting worse." At the words I reached over and grabbed the tap and let my magick course through me. It was a temporary fix, a bandaid, but I wasn't in the mood to get a plumber out to charge me an obscene amount of gold to fix all the pipes.

"There. All better." I let the tap go and the water ran clear after a few seconds.

"We can't keep limping it along like that." Raph raised her eyebrow and her words were clearly a warning but I shrugged.

"Eh, I think I can." I would keep doing it because I didn't want to open shit up and find out I needed to repipe the entire building. I didn't have the fund for that. Well I would have if I didn't send half my money to Tia every month but she was slightly agoraphobic and didn't like leaving her house so she didn't work. Plus I loved my twin and I owed her a lot. I would help her when I could. The pipes could wait in my opinion.

I pushed off the counter, feeling the potion work it's magick as the headache and tiredness slowly drifted away. "I'm gunna go clean up." I didn't wait to hear what Raph would say as I shoved through our front door and thumped down the back stairs to the backroom of the bar. I could hear Eve behind the bar, more than likely cleaning the dishes and I pushed on my chin, cracking my neck before I shook out my arms and hands.

I steadied myself and then held my arms out, palms forward and called on my magick. It roared through me, making the wood floor beneath me creak as the power snaked across the floor to their targets. I held the position as the magick gathered the cleaning materials and started to work. My head ached slightly but I pushed it away as I slowly started walking forward. I could hear the wet swish of the mop following behind me as it cleaned the floor.

I hit the main bar room and spread my fingers as I sent my army of cleaning tools through the building. The magick righted stools and chairs as it used wet clothes to wipe the tables down before it flipped the stools and chairs upside down on the now cleaned table tops. I tilted my head with a grimace as more magick poured from me and the first mop was joined by a second and they started to swirl around the bar room floor.

"Can I just say, this shit always freaks me the fuck out?" Eve said it with a shudder and I glanced at her from the corner of my eye and quirked my eyebrow.

"Then don't watch." I swirled my arms and the mops moved faster. This form of cleaning always left me exhausted but I figured having a huge power nap in the middle of the day would make up for it. It took a few more minutes before I was able to swirl my arms again and the cleaning supplies floated to the back, putting themselves away.

I let my arms drop, feeling heavily exhausted but glad that this was back in order. "So, how do you think shit is going to change since your sister shacked up with that werewolf?" At the question I moved over to the bar and shifted one of the stool, sitting down on it.

"Which sister?" I tilted my head as I watched Eve. I was more than aware that Bambam had run off with a werewolf as well. Lacey was just following in her footsteps. My family seemed to be full of rebels.

Eve let out a laugh that stopped when she noticed my expression. "You're serious." I shrugged and her eyes nearly bugged out of her head "Only your family would take off on the werewolf fucking train. I mean I get it, they're beasts in bed but witches and werewolves have been feuding for like ever." At the words I gave another shrug. I didn't care who had sex with who and what feuds our species had. I only cared about the shit that was happening in my bar and if people didn't listen to me. I liked my chaos but it had to be my chaos. "Do you think your sister, the new Queen, will make changes?"

"She assume she will be rescinding the ban on fucking werewolves and marrying them. So I would say she will make some change." It was more than likely going to piss off a lot of old guard witches and perhaps some werewolves but I didn't particularly care. Timid little Lacey was causing chaos and to that I offered her a sharp salute. Never would have taken her to be a rule breaker to the extent that she had broken the rules. Not the killing of the King, the pompous prick that he was, but the rest, such as ducking around with a werewolf, and not just any werewolf, the High King of High Whatever the Fuck They Called It.

"Think there will be push back?" At the quietly asked question, I let out a bark of laughter.

"Oh fuck yah. And won't that be fun?" I wasn't one to deal with political bullshit but if my sister called for war. I would be right on the front fucking lines just so I could get my fill of fucking shit up. I thrived in chaos, there was a reason red was my favourite colour. I gave Eve a rather feral grin and she just shook her head, a smirk tugging up her mouth.

"You remind me of a werewolf when you do that grin." She tossed her cleaning cloth over her shoulder, letting it rest there as she headed out from behind the bar. "I'm going to go help Raph with ordering. I'll see you tonight." I nodded at her and watched as she left. I reached over the bar and grabbed a shot glass and quickly poured myself a shot of fireball and downed it before pouring another one.

Lacey was gunna cause some serious shit and I was all for helping her out of it but it did worry me. She was Queen, she took the title by force, as the old laws allowed. But she was going to be making changes that not everyone was going to like and I felt like there was something that was brewing in the forces of the earth. A lot of old resentment was working it's way to the surface and I just hoped that we, as a family, came out of it alright.

The door to the bar opened, the old bell dinging and I froze in my spot and blinked before turning my head. A regal figure entered the dark bar with a grace I could never emulate and my face twitched. This was not going to be a pleasure visit, I could already tell. I downed the second shot, the liquor making a burning trail down my throat and into my stomach. I set the glass down and gave a small grimace as watched the sorceress come further into the bar. I let out a sigh, "Hey, mama."
