REAL LIFE
the queer premiere was in full swing, the red carpet packed with flashing cameras, journalists, and an ever-roating cast of celebrities. the excitement in the air was palpable as drew and his co-star, daniel craig, posed for photographers, their tuxedos crisp under the bright event lights.
"look serious," daniel muttered under his breath, adjusting his stance as another round of camera flashes went off. "like we just made the best film of the year."
drew smirked, straightening his posture. "you mean we didn't?"
daniel let out a low chuckle, his lips barely moving. "oh, we did. but we have to look like we know it."
drew turned toward him slightly, still maintaining his practiced pose for the cameras. "you're saying i don't look confident?"
"i'm saying you look like you're two seconds away from cracking a joke on this carpet."
drew gave a tight-lipped grin and faced toward the cameras again. "not wrong."
behind them, a group of celebrities were waiting by the velvet ropes, chatting amongst themselves as they politely stood off to the side. the flow of arrivals was nonstop, and it was clear they were lingering to avoid walking into the middle of the shots.
drew glanced over and, noticing the slight hold-up, leaned toward daniel. "let's let them through."
daniel nodded in agreement. "go ahead," he said, making a subtle motion with his hand.
the waiting group took the cue and started moving forward. and that we when drew saw her.
rhea.
she was walking just a few steps behind the others, the crowd parting naturally as if to make way for her. her red gown. bold, elegant, and impossible to ignore. it moved with her like flowing silk. the deep colour contrasted strikingly against her skin, and as she walked past the cameras, the flashes seemed to illuminate the gold accents along her ears and wrists. she looked poised, collected and completely unaware of the sudden shift in attention.
drew hadn't even realised he was staring until rhea's gaze flickered up, catching his.
for a brief second, the world around them dulled. the noise of the event, the reporters shouting, the constant clicking of cameras, and the overlapping conversations all faded into the background.
then, as if they had both silently agreed to keep it light, they exchanged an amused glance. a barely-there laugh passed between them, subtle but unmistakable.
rhea didn't stop walking and gave a polite, almost teasing wave before she continued on, her red dress trailing behind her as she disappeared down the carpet.
the cameras hadn't missed it. the flashes doubled. someone in the crowd murmured something, and drew knew without looking that at least five different angles of that interaction were already being uploaded online.
daniel, ever observant, let out a thoughtful hum, watching rhea's retreating figure. "hey, isn't that..."
"yeah," drew cut in, still watching the spot where she'd disappeared.
daniel raised an eyebrow. "perfect timing."
drew let out a low laugh, shaking his head. "fix your posture."
. . .
amidst the chaos of flashing cameras and swarming reporters, rhea stood next to natalia dyer, both dressed in stunning gowns as they answered questions from an interviewer holding a mic way too close to their faces.
"okay, ladies," the interviewer grinned, looking between them. "we have some very important questions. super serious. you ready?"
rhea, already laughing, nodded. "so serious."
natalia held up a finger. "let me mentally prepare." she closed her eyes dramatically, inhaled, then nodded. "alright. ready."
the interviewer glanced at their notepad. "first question: if you had to be stranded on a deserted island with any queer cast member, who would you pick?"
natalia didn't even hesitate. "drew."
rhea burst out laughing. "that was fast."
"listen," natalia held up a hand. "the man is, like, a human golden retriever. he'd keep the vibes positive and probably build us a shelter out of twigs."
rhea considered. "honestly? that's a good answer."
"so is it unanimous?" the interviewer asked.
rhea tilted her head. "you know what? i might pick daniel, though. he's bond," rhea reasoned, crossing her arms. "he has to know survival skills, right?"
the interviewer pointed at her. "big brain move." they glanced at the next question and smirked. "okay, next: if you could switch lives with any of your stranger things co-stars for a day, who would it be and why?"
natalia leaned into the mic, deadpan. "finn, just to see how it feels to be that tall and mysterious all the time."
rhea nodded. "solid."
"and you?" the interviewer asked rhea.
rhea grinned. "dacre. no real reason. just the accent."
natalia turned to her in mock betrayal. "so you're telling me, given all the talent, all the incredible careers," she gestured dramatically around them, "you're choosing dacre solely for his voice?"
"yes," rhea replied without hesitation. "i just wanna walk around saying dramatic things and sound effortlessly cool."
the interviewer laughed. "okay, so we should expect an australian accent phase from you soon?"
"absolutely," rhea said. "i'll commit fully. by next month, i'll be..." she suddenly stopped mid-sentence, her gaze flickering past the interviewer. her eyes widened at the sight.
natalia, ever perceptive, followed her line of sight before turning back with a knowing smirk. "that was suspiciously vague."
the interviewer, catching on, glanced over their shoulder. "ohhh. i see what just happened."
rhea, schooling her expression into innocence, held up her hands. "i have no idea what you're talking about."
the interviewer, still grinning, tilted their head. "okay, but be honest, have you been on twitter today?"
rhea exhaled dramatically. "i know what you're getting at, and yes, i have twitter, but..." she shook her head. "i muted everything and stopped opening it. the notifications got out of hand."
natalia gasped. "oh, so you do know."
rhea gave her a side-eye. "i do know, but i also choose peace."
the interviewer laughed. "that's fair, but also? you're missing out on some premium chaos."
natalia nodded eagerly. "like, genuinely, it's insane."
rhea groaned. "i hate that."
natalia smirked. "you love that."
rhea slung an arm around natalia's waist and pulled her closer. "i love natalia."
the interviewer grinned. "oh, my, don't tell charlie that."
natalia laughed and shook her head. "trust me, he knows."
. . .
oh i am so locked in guys
