Chapter 20 : A Promise
Seohyun hugged her Keroro doll and lied down on the bed. She scrolled down her phone book menu in her cell phone and stopped at the name Yoona.
She pressed the call button.
She counted the dial beeps and it cut off at the fifteenth beep before it went to the voice mail service. She sighed. She had been trying to call Yoona for
hours already but she was not answering.
"Where are you?" she rolled over on her bed.
Then Jessica crossed her mind. She dialled Jessica's cell phone and the ringtone rang from her drawer.
Seohyun jumped down the bed, still hugging the green frog doll, and opened her drawer. Jessica's cell phone was in there, moving by the vibration and
ringing.
Jessica left her cell phone at the orphanage when she ran away, her glasses, her purse, her wallet, her everything.
"Why is everyone suddenly gone out of reach?"
**
The breakfast was like cold war. Jessica and Yuri would exchange deadly glares from time to time.
After the ramen, Yuri brought dumplings, one for each person, well, she left out Jessica for some reason. Jessica frowned and pouted the whole day.
At night, Jessica tip toed from her room to the kitchen, she opened the refridgerator, she was thirsty.
Something caught her eyes. Yuri's ma juice.
The next morning, Yuri screamed in horror.
"Who the hell messed with my juice!?"
Jessica swapped the juice with herbal shampoo.
Then, came the next morning. Jessica stretched her body and yawned. "Ah, nice morning," she smiled.
After her small childish retaliation to Yuri, she was satisfied and had a really good night sleep.
"What is this smell?" she sensed something wrong.
She sat up on her bed and found cucumbers all around her.
Yuri was downstairs, counting down from five, "one, two, three."
"Yuri!" Jessica ran down the stairs, her eyes were red and she was sweating like crazy.
"Yes?" Yuri smiled.
"You! That was over the line!"
"Hey, that is for my ma juice," Yuri nodded, satisfied.
"You know how much I hate cucumbers," Jessica wiped her teary eyes, "I hate you."
Yuri's heart stopped when she saw the tears. "Are you? crying?" Yuri stuttered.
Jessic turned away and walked to the gazebo.
"Si-Sica?" Yuri bit her lower lip, "dang!"
A cold mineral water bottle hit her head.
"What the hell did you do?" Taeyeon asked.
"I...," Yuri dropped to the rug and sighed, "I crossed a line."
She looked to her wrist where a bracelet should be and she sighed again and again. "I made her cry."
**
Jessica was crying at the gazebo when Taeyeon tapped her shoulder.
"Hey."
"Hey," Jessica sobbed.
"You okay?"
"I'm fine," Jessica smiled, "you said want to talk to me?" asked Jessica.
"Ah, yes,"Jessica watched Taeyeon rubbed her head and moved so uncomfortably. "But I'm not sure how to start."
"Being a Potential?," Taeyeon paused, "listen, I have some worries about myself, as a Potential. Not knowing your limit. I'm worried if we're end up
hurting people and I made a huge sin for being a Potential. I played God and," Taeyeon touched her necklace with her finger, "I got the consequence."
"What are you trying to say?" Jessica tilted her head, "I don't follow."
"There's a silent pact between me and Eeteuk-oppa that if I overused my power and endangered people, he would kill me."
Jessica's heart stopped.
"And he almost did when I bring back Tiffany," Taeyeon saw Jessica reaction and she knew that Jessica aware of the story. "You already know?"
"About Tiffany, yes, but not about Eeteuk-oppa."
Taeyeon took a deep breath, "I'm asking you to not do what I did. Making a great sin. I don't regret it but still?."
Jessica now officialy scared. Her visions about Eeteuk were not mistaken. Eeteuk was about to kill Taeyeon, a Potential.
"You should forgive her though," Taeyeon said.
"Who?" Jessica frowned, not liking the topic already.
"Yuri. I mean, I understand how she feels and I know that you?."
"And does she know how I feel?" Jessica cut Taeyeon.
Taeyeon surprised by the sudden high tension from Jessica.
"Did you hear what she said? She asked do I know why she saved me at the orphanage. It feels like she regrets saving me," Jessica continued.
Taeyeon smiled and sighed, "well?" she asked, "do you know why she saved you at the orphanage?"
Jessica didn't answer.
"I think she didn't save you just to see you die again," Taeyeon said.
Jessica frowned. Maybe Taeyeon was right but she refused to apologize.
"But I won't be saying sorry, she said that cruel words to me first."
Taeyeon chuckled, "Eeteuk-oppa once said to me that a line between kids and adults is that kids would never say sorry first no matter how wrong they
are but adults say sorry first no matter how right they are, just to make things better."
Jessica frowned even more, "so you're saying I'm a kid?"
"I'm saying you could choose."
Jessica took a deep breath. This girl had so much wisdom in her.
"You should talk to him more often, to Eeteuk-oppa, I mean. He's a wise man."
I would, but I'm scared of him.
"Just something to think about," Taeyeon grinned, "I'm going to go inside."
Jessica nodded and she watched Taeyeon went inside the house, and then her mind flew back to the organization headquarters, to the room where she found Seohyun's photo. She might be in danger, the whole orphanage might be in danger.
Jessica hopped down the gazebo, walked a bit further to the prairie and blasted off to the sky.
**
Taeyeon went to her room, entered the shower and let water poured down at her without taking her clothes off. Something was bugging her mind.
She was almost burned herself alive when she was fighting the Princess. She lost control of her body, her power, and almost her whole conscience. That
was another side of her she didn't want to know.
"Taetae?" Tiffany stood at the door, tilting her head.
"Fany-ah."
"What are you doing taking a shower with your clothes on?" Tiffany turned the shower tap off and pulled Taeyeon out the shower. She forced her to sit
down on the rug beside their bed and took a towel. Tiffany started to dry Taeyeon's hair.
"You have something on your mind?" she asked.
Taeyeon nodded.
"You should tell me then, not trying to catch a cold instead," Tiffany rubbed Taeyeon's hair gently.
"Haha, I'm sorry," Taeyeon sighed, "remember yesterday when we charged in to the organization?"
Tiffany nodded.
"I lost myself."
Tiffany stopped her hand, "what do you mean lost yourself?"
"I mean... I was not who I am when I'm fighting the Princess then. There was something replacing me that time, a scarier self. She was more reckless
than I am, more vicious. I can feel my body moved, I can feel everything, it just? I can't stop myself."
Tiffany moved down to Taeyeon's neck.
"I almost even killed myself, and if I didn't get sober in time, I might've burn down the whole building, along with everyone in it. I'm scared of myself,
Fany-ah. I'm scared that I could be a danger to you all, to you."
"But that's not going to happen."
"But I'm serious, I am seriously scared."
"I know you are," Tiffany planted her forehead on Taeyeon's head, "you are stronger than that. I believe you."
Taeyeon smiled. Some of her worries lifted away and she could felt at ease.
"Taetae?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you ever regret having that necklace on your neck?"
Taeyeon shook her head softly, "no."
"But that necklace is carrying your soul."
"That's why I love it."
"Why?"
"Because only you who can unlock me."
Tiffany laughed in silence.
"You won't unlock me, will you?" Taeyeon joked around.
"Never."
Tiffany kissed the other girl's crown and let her fell asleep in her arms.
**
Sooyoung found Hyoyeon was standing in front of a hospital room door, frowning.
"Hey," Sooyoung greeted.
Hyoyeon didn't answer.
"You're not going inside?"
Hyoyeon shook her head, "of course. I was just inside."
"Eh? Isn't Princess inside?"
"This is Junsu's room," Hyoyeon turned and walked away.
"Ah, he's alive. It's a shame," Sooyoung followed her from behind.
"Do you know what he said?"
"No," Sooyoung shrugged.
"He said my army was incompetent."
Sooyoung stopped with her jaw dropped to the floor, "I am your army!"
"Sunny's too, that's why she left me here alone."
Sooyoung clenched her teeth, "that jerk!"
"This is his first failure, Sooyoung. I'm worried he will do the exact same thing to get to Eeteuk, Yuri and now, Jessica. He wants the Potential."
**
Junsu grunted when his arm ached. He was just trying to sat up on his hospital bed but his arm protested.
"Damn!" he cursed.
He was angry. In all of his missions, many of his missions, he never failed. But he found a girl, a Potential, stopped him.
Junsu took a deep breath.
"It's fine Junsu. You never anticipated another Potential to come. It's just natural that you failed," he said that but he hated the thought of self sympathy.
"So, that blonde girl is a Potential. But she's new. She's raw," Junsu tapped his fingers then he laughed, "so she must be with Taeyeon," he laughed
harder.
"I'll get every one of you Potentials."
**
Hyoyeon stood in front of the best ICU in Korea, inside the ICU was the Princess, lying on the bed. She suffered three broken ribs, bruises, minor burn
and a slight concussion as a result of facing Kim Taeyeon head on. She had been unconscious for the whole day, but she will be okay, the doctor
ensured it.
Sooyoung came and stood behind Hyoyeon.
"She's healing faster than a normal human," she said.
"She is, right?"
"Is she what I thought she is?"
"Yes. The organization had her in their hand, making sure that this one won't go against them. That's why we call her Princess."
"Sunny is okay with this?"
"Actually, she's the one who brought her in. Even though she hates those people, Princess is special. Besides, Princess could help us win the war so
Sunny treasured her very much."
"I see," Sooyoung came closer to the ICU window, "she's stronger than she looks."
"You heard her past, Sooyoung. If I were her, I would've killed myself by now."
**
Seohyun's cell phone rang, she quickly jumped to her bed and grabbed it. A number she didn't know was reaching her.
"Hello?" she answered.
"Hyunnie? It's me, Jessica."
