Chapter 46 (Final) : There Are Nine of Us
"The investigation upon the Seoul Burning Incident on the 20th this month has concluded. The information we received that a flammable chemicals
carrier plane, flying from Japan and heading to Alaska exploded. The plane was scheduled to stop at China but it exploded mid way above Seoul.
Thunderstorm and severe turbulence made the chemicals unstable. This explosion was so enormous it damaged thirteen buildings, seventy six vehicles,
one train and killed forty nine citizens. It even left a huge crater. And also, cases of hallucination occurred during the explosion. Regarding the weird
phenomenon of lightnings reoccurring in Seoul at the same time of the incident, the joint investigation team that involves South Korea, Japan, America
and French will hold a press conference tomorrow night."
Kangin switched the channel.
"The North Korea is invading us! We need to prepare!"
Kangin switched the channel again.
"Do you think you're different? Can you do things people can't do? We have the solution. Call this line, toll free and we'll do what we can for you."
Kangin pressed the remote button again.
"I saw it with my own eyes! There were people coming out of a lightning!"
"Your response, Sir?"
"It was hallucination. You were looking at an illusion. The side effect of the chemical is hallucination for those who inhales it. I have fourteen scientists
sitting in my office ready to testify about it tomorrow night and I also have more than a hundred eye-witnesses about this matter."
"I am not crazy!"
"Calm down, Sir."
"I'm not saying you're crazy, Sir. That's just the side effect of the chemicals. On the behalf of the Ministry of Defense, I assure you that what you
experienced was just an imagination."
"I'm not saying things!"
Kangin sighed as he saw the two guys on TV started fighting.
"Hyung, stop switching the channels," Kyuhyun said.
"Don't you want to see yourself on TV?" Kangin waved his remote.
"No. Besides it's better this way anyway. We need to stay hidden. People will start to raise hell again when they know about us."
"The government is truly scary. How can they hide this big thing just like that? With the way the media tells the story, it's going to sound like the North
Korea invaded us."
"Turn the TV off, Kangin," Mother said as she walked pass the crowded living room.
Kangin turned the TV off, "oh, okay. Is the food ready, Mother?"
Mother nodded and smiled.
"Okay, everyone with nothing to do, bring these pancakes to the living room! Go! Go!" Mother clapped her hands and the children quickly grabbed the
pancakes and marched to the living room.
This year's Christmas held at the Thirteen's house along with the children from the orphanage. After Jessica died, Eeteuk and Yoona explained
everything to Mother and Seohyun about her. And since the house became more and more quiet after those incidents, Eeteuk asked if Mother could
move the orphanage to the house, Mother agreed.
The empty rooms at the house were no longer empty. Mother was beyond happy because from time to time, the Thirteen boys come to visit, which was
a great sight for Mother. The children tended to Taeyeon's garden and they made a small grave for Jessica right next to Taeyeon's.
Yoona was looking down at the empty graves. She felt them with her hands, letting the cold sensation slithered to her veins. Yoona closed her eyes. She
was proud to know the two girls. Though the world will never knows the existence of the two brave girls, they were the true heroes.
"Unnie, get inside! Dinner's ready!" Seohyun called them from the kitchen.
"Coming!" Yoona answered.
Mother was still busy in the kitchen with Tiffany.
"Fany-ah! That is not cooking oil! It's vinegar!" Mother shouted, "here, you do this. Let see if you can boil eggs correctly."
"Come on, Mother. I can at least do that," Tiffany took one egg and dropped three to the floor.
"Aish," Mother sighed.
Tiffany laughed.
"Mother, if you really want Tiffany to help then you got to prepare, at least have a fire extinguisher at the ready," Eeteuk said.
"Oh, go, Eeteuk. Leave the kitchen to women," Mother told him away.
Eeteuk walked to the living room where fifteen children and his twelve friends gathered.
"Hey, you!" Heechul called a boy, "here, I'll teach you how to pose sexy."
The door bell rang.
"We're still expecting company?" asked Siwon.
Yuri ran down the stairs, "it's my guests," she opened the door.
"Merry Christmas," Hyoyeon smiled. Behind her were Sunny and Sooyoung, "here you go!"
Sooyoung gave Yuri a huge cake.
"We bought two cakes but somehow we can only found one of them," Sunny said.
"I swear to God! This was the only cake in the fridge!" Sooyoung swore.
"Come in," Yuri smiled.
The dinner was merry and noisy. For Eeteuk, Tiffany and Yuri, it was the best meal ever. And at the end of the night, everyone gathered around the
Christmas tree Mother brought and opened every presents.
Just when Hyoyeon was about to go home snow fell even harder.
"You could stay," said Yuri.
"I think we do need to stay, Hyo," Sunny frowned.
"Why?"
"Sooyoung could barely breathe," Sunny pointed to the bloated Sooyoung.
"I can't move, Hyo," Sooyoung smiled, "I ate too much. Can't eat anymore."
Hyoyeon smiled.
"Come on, I'll make you some hot chocolate," said Yuri, "and we still have some pies left."
"Ooh, pies," Sooyoung raised her hand.
"You just said you can't eat anymore!" Sunny yelled.
Yuri and Hyoyeon sat in front of the fireplace, right in the middle of the sleeping guys and two girls, with hot chocolate on their hands.
"So, what are you going to do after this?" asked Yuri.
Hyoyeon was playing with the snoring Eeteuk.
"They offered me a position in the new Gifted task force. I guess I'm gonna stay serving the country a little bit longer. Sooyoung and Sunny are coming
too," Hyoyeon poked Eeteuk with her toes. Eeteuk snored louder. "This guy is interesting," she cackled.
"Great," Yuri sipped on her chocolate.
"What about you?"
"Me?" Yuri thought, "not sure, but seeing Seohyun going to attend college soon, it looks like fun."
"College, huh?" Hyoyeon nodded.
"Yeah, picking up where I left off, been on the run for too long," Yuri chuckled.
"Ah," Hyoyeon also laughed, "sorry about that."
Yuri shook her head, signalling that she was joking.
"By the way," Hyoyeon reached inside her pocket, "today we've finished cleaning up the city. The explosion the other day caused a great mess."
"Uh-huh," Yuri sipped her chocolate again.
"We found this," Hyoyeon gave Yuri a small red box.
"What's this?" Yuri observed the red box.
"Christmas present, for you, from me, from us," Hyoyeon tilted her head, "ah, what the hell, it's a bribe. Let's work together. There are still so many
Gifted out there that need our help. And who knows, another case of Potential might pop up."
Yuri smiled, "we'll see."
Yuri opened the red box and her eyes instantly filled with tears. Inside the red box was Jessica's bracelet. The wooden bracelet Yuri made for Jessica.
The side was a bit charred black and it had soft cracks but the letters were still readable. Jessica.
"I hope you like it," Hyoyeon watched Yuri wiping her tears.
"You know?" Yuri raised her left wrist, showing Hyoyeon her bracelet, "I was going to give her the bracelet with my name but I was too shy. But now I
regret I didn't do that."
"Here," Hyoyeon took the bracelet, "let me help you."
Yuri stretched her left arm, the one with her own bracelet.
"You want to wear two bracelets in one arm?" Hyoyeon tied the bracelet on Yuri's wrist.
"To remind me of her," Yuri smiled.
Hyoyeon nodded and she sipped her chocolate.
"Thanks a lot," Yuri said.
"So you'll work with me?"
"Hm. What do you think, Sica?" Yuri asked her bracelet.
"Sure, why not."
Yuri jolted in surprise and turned her head around. That was Jessica's voice whispering at her.
"What's wrong?"
Yuri looked at Hyoyeon, "you didn't-- I mean just before I--."
Hyoyeon made a puzzled look.
Yuri smiled, "never mind."
She was sure she heard Jessica's voice or maybe it was just an imagination. Whatever it was, Yuri didn't care. She was happy she could hear Jessica's
voice again.
"So?" Hyoyeon asked again.
Yuri nodded, "sure, why not."
"Hyunnie?" a voice came from the kitchen.
Yoona found Seohyun was standing at the gazebo, staring at the night sky.
"Unnie," Seohyun smiled when she saw Yoona walked toward her.
"What are you doing here? It's late, let's get back inside," Yoona grabbed Seohyun's hand.
"I want to be out here for a while," Seohyun leaned her head on Yoona's shoulder, "I miss her."
"We all do," Yoona nodded.
They stared to the dark prairie in front of them in silent for awhile before Yoona struck a conversation.
"Hey, Hyunnie?"
"Hm?"
"You're not--I mean you don't, I mean you can't move things with your mind, right?" asked Yoona.
Seohyun smiled, "no. I was hoping I could so I can feel being Jessica-unnie but no, and I'm thankful for that."
"Good."
"Unnie," Seohyun said, "do you know what I learned from all of this?"
"No."
"I think that no one is really a villain."
"Gaea was a villain."
"She just wanted revenge. The organization did terrible things. That justified her actions."
Yoona didn't say anything.
"So, that makes you the villain."
"Me?"
"You capture Gifted and put them into a facility that kills them."
"So I'm the villain?"
"But you're only following orders and with all the things Gaea did, no one can't blame you."
"So that makes the Gifted the villain?"
"Yes. But they only want to live. Self defense if I say. In the end we're going in circle. The best thing is that all of you now realized and looked at the
other side of the story."
"I guess. So what's that make you then?"
"I'm the one who sums it up and makes everything make sense," Seohyun cackled.
"Yeah, right," Yoona laughed along.
"Hey, Princess," Hyoyeon called out. Beside her, stood Yuri with a blanket.
Yoona turned around and smiled, "Unnie? You two haven't slept yet?"
"No," Yuri walked to the gazebo with Hyoyeon behind her, "and why the hell did you guys stil doing up? Children should go to sleep early."
"Ask this little girl," Yoona rubbed Seohyun's head, "she left me alone in bed."
"You guys share a room!?" Yuri shouted, "what were you guys doing!? Were you--!?"
"No!" Yoona and Seohyun said in unison, "we didn't do anything!"
"Yoona," Hyoyeon narrowed her eyes, "I didn't know you're that kind of person."
"Don't say like I am such a perverted person!"
"Hey!"
Everyone turned around to the kitchen door, Tiffany was standing half asleep.
"What's with the ruckus? It's almost midnight," Tiffany yawned.
"Hey," Yuri smiled, "these two kids. They were--."
Yoona cupped Yuri's mouth with her hand, "no! Don't listen to her!"
Seohyun covered her face with her hands. "Omo."
Tiffany walked to the gazebo. "What are you guys doing in here anyway?"
"Actually, we don't know," Hyoyeon smiled.
"You should've closed the door if you're outside!" Sunny yelled from the kitchen door. Beside her was trembling with cold Sooyoung.
"Oh, sorry," Tiffany said.
"Look, how pathetic Sooyoung turned," Sunny hugged the trembling girl.
"I'm not pathetic," Sooyoung said, her body was trembling so bad.
"Come here, it's warmer here," Hyoyeon beckoned them to go to the gazebo. So Sunny and Sooyoung joined the flock at the gazebo.
Seohyun looked at the girls and she smiled, "it's amazing how all of you guys were different and don't know each other at first place. Even enemies."
Hyoyeon and Yuri chuckled.
"I wish I was a part of you guys. Doing the electricity thing and all."
"No!" all of them shouted.
Seohyun's eyes widened and she smiled, "just kidding. I enjoy being myself. It's just fun to see the seven of us gathering like this."
"Nine," Tiffany said, she looked to the two empty graves, "there are nine of us."
"Yes," Seohyun smiled, "we are nine."

A New Story
At the other side of the world, two girls were climbing up their apartment stairs.
"Hurry up, Krystal! We don't want to miss the show!" a girl said.
"Hold on, Luna," a girl named Krystal followed her friend to their apartment door. She was holding two shopping bags.
"Maan, California is really snowy," her friend shivered in cold.
"Come on, come on, open the door, I'm freezing," Krystal kicked her friend foot.
"Okay," Luna searched around her pocket but didn't find the keys.
"Oh, no."
"What?"
"I think I left the keys inside," Luna made an apologetic face.
"What!?"
"Sorry!" Luna rubbed the back of her head.
Then the door suddenly clicked and the key unlocked.
"Try opening the door," Krystal said.
Luna turned the knob and the door opened, "hey! Great! How did it--."
"Just get inside," Krystal pushed Luna inside the apartment.
"Hold on! How the hell--what did you do!?"
Krystal sighed, "fine. I'm gonna tell you a secret but promise me you won't tell anyone."
"Right!" Luna zipped her mouth with her hand.
"I can move things with my mind."
Luna raised her eyebrow, "riiight."
"No, seriously. It started a few days ago."
Luna turned away.
"Okay, here! I'll show you!"
Krystal concentrated on the door and then she slammed the door close.
"That's just wind."
Then Krystal turned the lights in the apartment on and off.
"That, I can't explain."
Luna's body suddenly lifted up a few centimeteres and then dropped to the floor.
"Whoa! Hey! Okay!" Luna moved back a few steps, "that is creepy!"
"I told you."
"And cool at the same time!" Luna shouted.
"Okay, it is cool, but it's a secret, okay? It's a secret between us."
"Right. A secret."
