You woke up on the hard cold ground. It was cold but your forehead was extremely hot. You slowly opened your eyes and saw Jack washing a thin piece of cloth. You looked around you, wondering why you were on the ground. 

"I collapsed..."  You thought as the memories flashed through your mind. You slowly got up and the cloth on your head fell on your thighs. The white haired boy suddenly spun towards you and you saw his eyes were filled with concern. He immediately ran to your side and bombarded you with questions. 

"Does any part if you hurt?" "Are you cold?" " Should I call the Guardians?" "Are you okay?"

"Yes." You said before he could add anything else. Jack didn't quite believe you because he placed his ice cold hand on your forehead, checking your temperature, you quickly placed your hand on top of his and smiled warmly.

"I'm fine, Jack. I really am." You said assuringly. Jack looked at you with more concern in his eyes.

"Really?" Jack asked. You nodded. You both stayed silent for some time. 

"How long have been I out?" You asked softly

"Just a few minutes, but your temperature dropped down, like really dropped down. It was colder than my frost." Jack said. You nodded in reply, you looked around you to see the lake unfrozen.

"How did the lake become like this?" You asked as you looked into his eyes. You noticed how Jack avoided you or gaze.

"I, uh, used your fire marbles..." Jack said shyly. Suddenly Herwim flew up to your face and nuzzled it. You smiled at her touch.

"I'm fine, Nerwin. I promise." You said to her. Then she did the most shocking thing ever, Nerwin nuzzled Jack's face and stayed at his shoulder. Your eyes widened in surprise.

"You and Nerwin seem close...?" You trailed still shocked. Last time you left them together, they always fought and Jack was always the more injured one.

"Yeah , Nerwin helped me to tend to you while you were unconscious." Jack said as he stroked Nerwin's cheek. 

"Why did you collapse? It's okay if you don't wanna tell me." Jack said.

"I'm scared." You said softly

"The tough new Guardian, Y/N L/N or known as The Lantern, is scared?" Jack mocked.

"Are you seriously mocking me, right now, Frost Boy? You'd be surprised to know that I could hurt you right now." You threatened.

But instead of shaking in fear or shutting up, Jack laughed at your threat.

"Hurt me? You've got to be kidding me. You can't push me even if you wanted to." Jack said, still laughing.

You growled under your breath. You suddenly got up and pushed him to the deep cold lake. Jack, who had stopped laughing, was dripping wet from the push. You laughed a little upon seeing Jack's expression. 

"Oh, you think that was funny? This is funny." Jack said as he suddenly grabbed your hand and pulled you into the water with him. You yelped.

Jack immediately swam further away from you. You, who was shocked that Jack pulled you in, was very much annoyed since your uniform was still new. But you were much more focused on where you were. 

As you struggled to breath, Jack watches you as he laughs his head off, thinking that you were pretending to not know how to swim to get back at him. But in truth, you really didn't know how to swim (In this story you don't know how to swim). 

"Jack! -ack! Help! I can't swim!" You desperately said as you tried to somehow float. But it miserably failed. The water sucked you in as your movements slowed down. 

Jack heard you and turned around to see your little prank. 

"Hahaha," Jack said sarcastically, "I already know the 'moves' in pranking and I already know you're faking it." 

He saw you drown. He smirked to himself knowing that you'll wait for another minute or so. 5 minutes passed and you were still nowhere to be found. Jack started to feel worried. He quickly dove underwater and saw you with your eyes closed. 

Y/N! 

It was the first thing Jack thought when he saw you nearing the bottom. He swam as fast as his legs could take him. As he arrived by your side, he placed a hand by waist and his other hand paddling towards the sun. 

As you both came up for air, he quickly went by the side of the lake and Jack desperately breathed for air. He lied you down at the ground and listened for any sign of life. 

You weren't breathing. 

He quickly placed his hand on your chested and pressed as hard as he could to get the water out. After a few minutes, you coughed up water and was out of breath. Jack patted your back to help the water come out. 

"Are...you okay?" Jack asked, breathlessly. You nodded weakly. 

"Then why were you in the water if you didn't know how to swim?! You could've gotten yourself killed!" Jack slashed out angrily. You were shocked, he wasn't always like this. 

"But didn't you pull me in the water?" You asked.

"If you hadn't pushed me to the lake, then maybe I wouldn't have pushed you as well!" Jack scolded.

"Are you actually scolding me, right now?" 

"Yes! You could've died if I haven't saved you!" 

"What are you talking now about? I'm immortal. I don't die." You snapped.

Jack fell silent.

"W-Well... I uh... Uh..." 

 You crossed your arms and glared at him boredly.

"You what? Scared that I'd die?" 

Jack looked away with his hand rubbing his neck. You looked at him weirdly. You sighed softly and sat beside him again. 

"I don't die easily you know... I'm a survivor. Trust me when I say I've gone through worse." You said softly.

"I know." You looked at him questionably.

"Judging how tough you are at every situation, I think you've even witnessed a person's death." Jack said sadly.

You noticed the gloomy atmosphere around you both. 

"You wanna talk about it? Their death I mean." Jack nodded.

"Jamie was the first kid to ever believe in me. He never gave up on me. He became my friend. He helped me feel. But when he died before my eyes, I felt something die in me. I just couldn't live with myself. I just wish that I wasn't immortal. That I could be with me again..." Jack said as tear escaped his eyes. 

"I know how you feel..."

"No! You don't!" 

"...Becoming immortal has some pros. It helps us see how the world we lived in progressed into s much better one. It lets us meet different people who help us. But it also has some nasty heartbreaking cons. It separates us from the people we met and placed in our hearts. They cut off our connection with them. It kills us slowly but painfully everyday." Jack looked at you with tears eyes. He saw tears in your beautiful e/c eyes.

"But they're not really far away from us. They live in our memories and in our hearts. They never left us. Or our connections with them were never cut off. They never cut them. Nor did our immortality. We were the ones who severed our ties with them. We try not to think them, to forget them, to move on. But the truth is, it is good to think of them to let them know that we haven't forgotten them. It hurts but we must move on because they wouldn't want us to stay broken or mourn for them forever. They'd want us to be happy. Same goes for Jamie. He'd want you to be happy without and for him." You said as tears streamed down your face.

"Y/N..." Jack said shocked and concerned.

You stood up from your position and turned your back to him. You wiped your tears away. You took a deep breath and turned to him with a emotionless expression. 

"Do you want to see Jamie?" You asked straight forward.

"What?" 

"Forget it if you didn't hear." You said as you turned to walk away.

Jack stood up and flew beside you.

AN: AHHHH...!!! Finally I updated!!! *Party poppers popped out of nowhere* *Me screaming like a weirdo* 

I'm so sorry for the super late update. I've been given lots of homework and tests lately. Internet is slowly dying. My brain hurts so bad. I slept kinda late last night so I'm very sleepy. Today I had 5 tests. My sibling has fever and I had to do her chores so all my muscles hurt right now. But when I thought of all of you, I forced myself to update. Again, I'm so sorry. Exams are next week so I don't think I can update. I'll try my best to update ASAP. I know I've been saying this same thing but I always try. I mean everything doesn't always go as plan you know. Life's full of mysteries that are yet to be discovered. 

Hope you all understand my situation. Thanks you to everyone who still reads this story even though I update very slowly. (I promise I'll try to fix that problem)
