Chapter 12: Adventures in Burgess
You screamed so loud, making Jack cringe a little. Your grip around his neck tightened a little bit. You ordered Nerwin to go back to the workshop to deliver a message to North and the others, just to give them a heads up to where you are.
"Could you stop screaming for every move I make?!" A frustrated voice asked.
"By the time we reach Jamie, it's probably past midnight already. And I thought you said, you're not afraid of heights?" Jack said as he flew through the refreshing cold wind against his ice cold skin.
You and Jack (or rather Jack with you in his arms) were flying through the sky. He was holding his staff by the hand that was on your waist.
"I'm not. It's just something happened..." You said, gripping tightly.
It was true. You weren't afraid of heights. It's just that North did something very terrible that made you temporarily afraid.
It was a few days back when Jack was still missing. You were moping in your room for almost a week now. North persuaded (or rather blackmailed) you to have a ride on the sled. It was comforting but North did some unexpected loops and lots of twists and turns that you sometimes fell off the sky and after a minute or two of falling, North would catch you with the sled. By the time you got off the annoying thing, you vomited food you ate earlier. Your mind could still remember the disgusting vomited food.
"What is it?" Jack asked.
"You wouldn't even want to know."
"Try me." Jack dared you.
You sighed.
You started your story. By the end of it, Jack was laughing his head off and probably would die out of happiness.
"I would have wanted to see that..." Jack said, continuing laughing.
"Shut up, Frost. It's y--" You were cut short when Jack made a surprising turn.
You yelped.
Your grip tightened on his neck. You buried your face against his neck, too scared to even look.
"Do you trust me?" Jack asked suddenly.
"What?" You asked confused.
"Do you trust me?" Jack repeated.
"Jack, I--" You were cut short by Jack.
"Just answer the question, Y/N."
You stayed silent before nodding.
Jack stopped flying, just floating around the sky. He stood up straight in the sky and let you step on his bare feet. He tightly placed his hands on your waist. You opened your eyes a bit but shut them down again at the more scarier scene.
"I won't let you fall, Y/N... I promise." Jack whispered to your ear.
You turned to him and saw pure sincereness in his deep blue eyes. You nodded. You raised your arms to your sides and felt the cold breeze hit your skin.
A smile tugged at your lips. You closed your eyes to feel the cold wind collide with your pale skin. Your muscles relaxed. Your breathing was relaxed. Everything that was very intense a while ago, was very relaxed.
After a few minutes of soaring through the sky, you and Jack landed on cold snowy ground. You got off of Jack's feet and turned to him.
"That...wasn't as bad as I thought it would be." You said softly to him.
"So is your fear of flying gone? Or are you still scared, little light?" Jack teased.
"Aren't we supposed to visit Jamie? Not wasting precious time on teasing me?" You asked sternly.
"Teasing you is worth my precious time." Jack said cockily.
You rolled your eyes playfully.
Jack flew around the graveyard. You looked around it to see a garden full of tombstones. Some had fresh flowers or beautiful expensive lanterns beside the grave. Some had green wreaths on the grave.
You passed through several more tombstones until you saw Jack stopped at a particularly one tombstone.
This tombstone was different from the rest. It had little frost patterns at the corners. One thing was beside the grave. A simple but pretty square-shaped brown lantern was beside the grave. Words were engraved to the stone
NAME: JAMIE BENNET
AGE: 57
A SON, BROTHER, FRIEND AND FATHER
Jack walked slowly to Jamie's grave. He had a blue ice rose. He gently placed it on the grave.
"Hey Jamie. How ya doing? I hope you're fine. I'd be lying if I said I was fine." Jack said.
"I'm sorry for not visiting you for a while." He said sadly.
You saw tears fall from his eyes.
You felt the urge to comfort him. You silently walked to him. You grabbed his cold white hand and gave it a little squeeze. Silence fell upon you both. Until you broke it.
"Hey Jamie. I'm glad to finally meet you. Jack tells me that you're an adventurous and amazing kid. I bet we would've gotten along great... I'm glad that I rejected the offer when I was chosen as a Guardian a hundred years ago. I really am. You met Jack and became close friends.... I promise to take good care of Jack for you." You said.
Jack looked at you in shock when he heard the last sentence. You felt him stare at you but you kept your cool and ignored him. You both stayed silent for a few more minutes. Until Jack broke it.
"Hey, there's still time before midnight, you wanna explore the city?" Jack asked.
"Um...sure." You said awkwardly.
Jack pulled you closer to his ice cold body. It felt cold but you didn't notice. He sent a smirk at your way and suddenly carried you bridal style.
You yelped in surprise.
"Hang on..." Jack said as he zipped through the air.
He zipped around with the cold winter wind blowing on both of your faces. He flew from the street to street playing pranks on some of the townspeople; freezing a girl's tongue to a pole, slipping people carrying groceries, sending a sudden cold breeze towards people and freezing some of the electrical wires.
It was a fun ride. Jack made some loops and fast moving but he always told you when he would do them. You both flew around until you came to a frozen lake.
"Here we are." Jack said as he set you down in front of the lake.
The scenery was beautiful. It had trees all around and a beautiful round frozen lake. There were snowdrops on the snowy land. It was extremely cold at night. You looked in awe.
"Hey," Jack said, you turned around to see him holding up a pair of ice skates, "Do you know how to skate?"
"Not much. Why?" You said awkwardly.
"Ice skating. Do you wanna learn?" Excitement and happiness filled you that you couldn't contain your smile. You nodded.
A smile appeared on the white-haired boy. He tossed you the skates and you caught them swiftly. You removed your boots and replaced them with the ice skates.
As you were tying the show laces of the skates, you saw Jack make another pair of the ice skates for himself and places them on his feet.
You stood up with much difficulty and wobbled to the lake. It took you a few minutes but you successfully arrived at the lake where Jack was still trying to tie the laces of his skates.
You giggled at him as he tries to make an effort to tie his ice skate laces but fails continually. You wobbled to him with very much difficulty. When you finally were at his side, you crouched down and tied the laces of his skates without difficulty.
"Seriously Jack, I don't know what's so hard about tying laces." You giggled as you wobbly stood up to face Jack.
"Thanks." Jack muttered while looking away, embarrassed.
You laughed at his reaction.
You felt Jack pull your arms to the open lake. You held Jack's hands tightly as you both skated.
"Easy on the grip, Lantern. Maybe by the time we finished, I don't have any bones left. All of them are broken." Jack joked. You laughed at his joke, sending little shivers down his spine.
You both skated carefully but wobbly. It was a funny sight. You and Jack made some jokes to lessen the tension between you both.
Then suddenly Jack let your arms go. It took you by surprise. As you struggled to keep your balance, Jack laughed at how hard you tried.
"Need any help, shorty?" Jack teased.
"As if you could do any better, old man." You said, quite annoyed.
Jack smirked.
He swiftly skated around the lake confidently. He even did some amazing turns. After doing his amazing performance, he turned to you with smirk on his face.
"Shut up, snowball! I can do better." You snapped.
"I didn't even say anything, grumpy." Jack smirked.
"Whatever." You grumbled.
You took a deep breath and started skating around the lake. You were balanced and did some movements with your hands. You even made some twirls and flips. You closed your eyes just to feel the breeze blowing to your skin. It felt good.
Everything was going so well until you tripped and landed on top of something. You heard laughs and snickers below you. You opened your e/c eyes that collided with deep blue ones. Jack stopped laughing as he noticed you were on top of hi and staring at his eyes. He stared right back at you.
For some reason, the both of you couldn't look away and started leaning in. It was like the both of you were in a trance. Like there was a magnet that was pulling you towards the other.
You cleared your throat and awkwardly stood up. You looked away as you felt your cheeks growing hotter with every second standing near him. Jack, silent and embarrassed, stood up, looked away with a red glow on his pale white cheeks.
It was insanely hot which was weird for the both of you since it was snowing and the temperature was below 7 Celsius. It was also very silent. Too silent for Jack to handle and would've cracked a joke or two if it was a normal situation but for some reason, he couldn't find anything to joke about.
"T-Told you, I-I'd do better..." You said awkwardly.
Jack nodded his head in agreement.
"Those flips and twirls were cool..." Jack said softly, almost in a whisper.
Then the dark blue sky was filled with vibrant colors. It lighted up the darkened place. It was a beautiful scenery and filled the people with hope and joy whenever they got the chance to see the sky like this. But it didn't bring a smile to the two Guardians. It filled them with worry and concern about their other friends. The silver bracelets on your wrists glowed silver meant only one thing: the Guardians needed their help.
"The lights... The Guardians need our help." Jack whispered. You nodded.
"Take my hand. Pandora's Lock will take us to the North Pole." You said sternly.
Jack didn't hesitate to take it. The memory of their embarrassing situation was forgotten at the moment. Now, they had a bigger task at hand. And that was to help the Guardians. With that, they disappeared with a silver misty glow and teleported back to the snowy and cold North Pole.
A/N: Hello!! I am very sorry for the late update. *Bowing down and giving you your favorite food* But I have a good reason for this. You see, 2 months ago, my grandmother passed away and I was affected greatly because I loved her so much that it just broke me and my mind just went blank. Whenever I tried to think, I couldn't come up with anything. But that was the time when Exams were nearing and I had to study so I didn't have time to mourn too long. After doing exams, I had to finish my projects and all for my clearance.
I was actually supposed to update this 2 days ago but it was my grandfathers 3rd death anniversary, so I cried for some time. Yes, it's been 3 years but I felt that I didn't spend much time with him cause I was away from school and everything.
If your asking, I'm still quite broken but I have to move on. I can't just hang up my life on someone's death besides I know she's happy up there with my grandfather.
And I guess what, it's my birthday!!! I'm old :(
Tell me what you think what the chappie. I personally made it really long for all of you guys, who have been so patient with me. And thank you for all the reads! This book has reached 1.2k. Thank you all ❤️
