CHAPTER TWO

Dory watched as a feather from a crow fell from the sky and landed in a puddle of muddy water in front her. Looking up, she locked eyes on the crow before it squawked and flew away from her community. She always wanted to know what it was like to fly - how it felt to be free and to go wherever you want whenever you wanted to. But even as a kid Dory had never experienced what it was like to fly. Her family never went on vacation, especially not after the death of her mother.
The women was lost in thought, sipping water from a water bottle and not hearing the soft patter of feet behind her. She couldn't believe three days ago Negan came just to tell her, that her brother was alive. "Penny for your thoughts?" a familiar voice said from behind her. Dory turned around and came face to face with Micheal Winters. She gave him a small smile and the two of them sat on a nearby log together. Dory had been training the teenage boy per request to his aunt. Micheals aunt wanted him to be in good hands and know tips and tricks for survival, and no one was better fit to show him these things other than Dory.
Dory looked over to the teenage boy beside her, and notice his gaze directly in front of them. The boys crush on Alexis Rovia was no secret, but she always found it enjoyable when he would pretend like people had no idea. "Do you want a penny for my thoughts or a push in the right direction?" Dory asked breaking the boy from his intense gaze of his crush helping fold laundry. "Go talk to her Micheal."
The boy shook his head and kicked the dirt up from the ground. "You're going to the Kingdom today right?" the boy asked to change the topic. Dory nodded her head, she hated going to the Kingdom to talk to Ezekiel. The man loved to discuss theatre and art, two things Dory hated. He loved to discuss 'war' tactics instead of survival and it seemed like everything she said got shut down by the 'king'. But no matter how sour the meetings between the two went, she always left with a basket of fresh fruit from the community.
"Yeah, Alexis is coming so she can hangout with some of the community's people and she's going to shadow me to see what it's like to talk tactics with others." Dory told the boy. He always knew the women's itinerary better than she did, but he was always there to remind her about the things she would forget. Micheal nodded his head showing that he was following along. "Also, you promised to look over the builders plans before they start the rework on the stables." Micheal told her making Dory swear under her breath.
"Thanks kid," she said with a smile messing the boys hair up and turning towards one one the trailers that was being used for meetings. As of right now there wasn't a lot in the Hilltop. A huge storm stuck all of Washington over a week ago and tore down most of their buildings, so they were building stronger this time. Walking towards the trailer Dory's eyes moved up to the Barrington house that sat atop the highest point in the community - the women rolling her eyes when she saw the leader Gregory standing in a window watching everyone work. Everyone knew the only thing keeping Dory from truly running Hilltop was that man, but no one would ever admit that it would be exactly what everyone needed too.
Shaking her head she opened the door to the trailer and smiled greeting a group of 15 different people of all different shapes and sizes. One of them being Jesus. "Hey everyone, sorry i'm late." she rushed out, pushing her hair behind her ears. "What do you got for me?" She asked with curiosity. The head of builders proceeded to show Dory a handful of blueprints with their ideas for new buildings for the community and some layouts for where more housing could go. They spent over half an hour discussing plans and where to gather materials for everything they were planning to build. "What's our time frame for the greenhouse?" Dory asked, the greenhouse would be something she would want done before anything else.
"Probably a little less than a year," Jesus said speaking up for one of the first times during the meeting. Dory looked to him in complete shock. "A year? Jesus in 6 months we'll have winter creeping up on our asses and you're telling me this now? We should have been starting this months ago!" the women exclaimed disappointed in the news. "W-We can have it done in 6 months." The head builder finally said speaking up for the group. Dory sighed and shook her head standing up from the chair she was sitting in.
"Make it five." She said before closing the door behind her and walking towards her own trailer so she could shower and change before going to the kingdom. Eziekel always made a point of wanting Dory to look her best when she would come to visit, the same went for Alexis. Before the women could even take off her boots there was a knock on her trailer door. "Can I have ten minutes alone?" She whispered to herself before grabbing the doorknob and swinging the door open. On the other side of the door stood Jesus with his beanie in his hand and a small smile on his face.
"We agreed we can't do this when everyone's awake-" Dory started before the man pushed her softly into the trailer and closed the door behind him and locking the door. "I haven't seen you in over a week, I've missed this." the man replied, putting his hand on the back of her neck and bringing their lips to meet. "Paul I-I don't have time I have to s-shower." Dory stuttered out as he started to kiss down her neck biting slightly.
"I can find myself to be very persuasive." Paul whispered, his lips ghosting over hers until the women couldn't take the suspense any longer and connected their lips once more.
"Damn you Rovia."
