Carnival lights dance against the night, trees sway in a gentle breeze, the smell of cotton candy and an ocean scent pricks your nose.

The shoreside dock was alive with action, children screaming with joy from atop the lit up Ferris wheel, couples hand in hand feeding one another cotton candy. You were still a little shy when it came to pda and your new companion, Koichi Zenigata, but you two managed just fine.
He held your small hand in his large strong ones as he hummed to himself, walking alongside you across the dock.

"Oh gosh, it's such a nice night!" Zenigata chirped, taking a deep breath of the fresh and sweet ocean air. "Gotta love that ocean scent!"

He swings his arms back and forth, his hand squeezing yours happily. "All I can smell is that gamy fish smell" you laughed, as you two approached the end of the dock, looking off into the night sky. The sound of calliope music was far behind you, as you shared the peaceful silence together, the sound of waves lapping against the dock making up for lost conversation. 

"You seem a bit tense, you didn't wanna go on any of the rides with me" he complained, staring at you with brown puppy dog eyes. "I'm too socially awkward to ride carnival rides with children" you sigh. He tilts his head and smiles. "Well, you got me, pumpkin"

You smile at his pet name, and pull him closer as seagulls called to one another in the distance. "My big brave detective can protect me against those loud noisy children" you giggle, standing on your tippy toes and pecking him on the cheek. "They're just children," Zenigata began. "They won't do anything to you."

"Children scare me" you protest. "They're loud and mean"

Zenigata laughs "Mean? Since when has a child bullied you?"

You bite your lip, realizing how silly you sounded, "Alright alright, I get it. I'm being weird"

Zenigata laughs and brushes his lips atop your head. "Can we go on the Ferris wheel?" he begs.

You smile. "Sure Koichi, sure we can." He eagerly pulls you close to him. "We're gonna have fun, just watch!". He pulls you alongside as he walks back to the carnival rides, getting in line. Couples chirp excitedly to each hand in hand, and children jump up in down, parents trying to contain them and keep them from cutting in line. "Maybe if the Ferris wheel wasn't slow, it would be more interesting" you decide to joke. 

"The point of it is to see the view!" Zenigata retorts. "Plus, I want you all to myself up there with no interruptions."

"Oh, you're smooth" you giggle, holding onto his arm, nuzzling yourself into the fabric of his trench coat. The line moves along, and the two of you eventually reach the front. "Tickets?" the man operating the ride says blandly. Zenigata reaches into his pocket and fishes out two crumpled tickets he had purchased earlier at the carnival entrance. He hands the operator the tickets, and they stamp them and hand the tickets back to him. 

Zenigata tips his hat to the operator as one of the seats eventually comes down and dips onto the board walk. The operator gestures for you and Zenigata to take your seats. Zenigata gently pulls you behind him as he happily walks up to the seat. You sit down side by side, and pull down the metal beam, snug against your thighs. As people get off the ride, the seat moves forward and starts to ascend into the air. The wind gently whines in your ear as you climb up higher and higher.

Zenigata swings his legs excitedly, his eyes sparkling against the bright neon carnival lights. Your heart melt and you rest a hand on his shoulder "You look so happy!" you laugh. 

"Well, I get the night off from the Lupin case to spend with you! Of course I'm happy!!"

You fell in love with this man all over again, and pressed your chest against his, kissing him deeply. he brushes a hand against you cheek, as you share an almost fairytale like kiss, with the lights and ocean waves lapping in the background. As you reach the top, he bites your lips playfully, as you separate from one another. "I'm having so much fun with you" he whispers, blushing intensely. You share the same red tint on your cheeks as he plants a kiss on your cheek. "Let's do this more often, okay?" you beg. 

"I'll try my best to get more days off, just for the two of us" he promises, squeezing your hand. Suddenly his eyes light up, and he gazes over your shoulder in awe. 

"What is it Zeni?" you ask, turning around to follow his gaze. His eyes were landed on large tannish brown teddy bear, a red and black plaid bowtie resting under his chin. The teddy bear was hanging from a rack in a carnival game that read "Knock Em Out!", bright yellow lights sparkling around the sign.

Zenigata bounced up and down in his seat, his eyes glittering. "Y/n, Y/n! Look at that little guy!! He's so so cute!!!". His expression was priceless, and it became contagious as you felt yourself smiling, your heart beating faster. "Do you want it, Zenigata?" you chuckled. "Yes," he breathed, as he continued to bounce up and down, clutching so hard to the metal guard that his knuckles turned white. As the Ferris wheel reached the ground, he threw the metal rail off of the two of you, and dashed out of the seat, straight through the Ferris wheel exit.

"Hey, wait up!" you called out as you run after him, almost losing him the monstrous crowd. He's already way ahead of you as you reach the carnival booth. Zenigata's eyes were lit up as the beady black eyes of the teddy bear stared back at him.

"You wanna play for the bear?" the carny asks, tipping his hat at the two of you. You feel obligated to win that teddy bear for your boyfriend. "Yes" you pipe in, handing the carny a 5 dollar bill. The carny hands you three soft plastic balls. "You get three tries to knock out as many pins as you can," he instructed. You nodded and handed one to Zenigata. "Give it a try," you encourage him. He grips the plastic ball with brute force and gears his arm back, aiming for one of the bright neon pins sitting on a board platform. He tosses the ball and two out of a dozen of the pins were knocked out. He looks down slightly embarrassed.

"Hey, don't worry it's okay!" you assure. "It's probably rigged. Plus, we have two tosses left. He looks up at you with hope glittering in his puppy dog eyes. "Good luck, /yn/!!"

You grip the plastic ball and throw it with all your might at a row of pins. With great ease, five pins were knocked down. You gasp, realizing that with the sequence of pins falling over, you should have gotten more. This confirmed it was rigged. Some of the pins must have You growl argyle and the carny smirks. "Alright, you got one more shot...unless you wanna pay for three more shots".

You grumble to yourself as you aim for the next set of pins. You realize then that it was useless. If it was rigged, you wouldn't be able to knock out any more to win the teddy bear. You wanted to punch that smug look off of the carny more than anything else.

An idea pricked your mind and you smirk back, and throw the ball with all your might. The plastic ball hit the carny's face with great force, and he fell back, screaming in agony. Zenigata gawked at you with horror. "Why did you do that?!" he gasped. 

You stand on your tippy toes and tug the teddy bear from its hook on the wall, handing it to a confused Zenigata. "Let's make a run for it!" you demand, grabbing his free hand and tugging him away, as the carny angrily stood back up. 

You tore through the crowd as the injured carny screamed curse words. "Get back here you son of a bitch!" he demanded. The two of you had finally reached the parking lot, panting and reaching for one another's hands. 

Zenigata gives you a concerned frown for what you did, but it dissipates as he looks at the large teddy bear in his hands. "I can't believe you did that!" he laughed, squeezing the teddy bear, nuzzling its soft fabric. You kiss his knuckles one at a time and smile. "I'd do anything for you, Zenigata"

His attention is focused on you, and he puts down the teddy bear and scoops you up into a hug. "Thank you, /yn/."

You chuckle as he plants sloppy kisses on your ears and cheeks. "Do you like your teddy bear, hon?" you laugh, as he lets go and squeezes the teddy bear happily. He vigorously nods, but turns to you and stares deep into your eyes. 

"You're my favorite teddy bear". With a rush of emotions, you pull him down to your height and kiss him hard. With his free hand, his caresses your cheek, goofily grinning underneath the smile. 

You separate from the kiss and walk hand in hand back to the car. "Let's get going before that carny reports us to security" you sigh. Zenigata pats you on the back. 

"If anything happens, I'll handle it".

This was not a requested story, I just wanted to write a one shot based on Tumblr user GoldenTeddie and this specific piece of art THAT MAKES ME CRY I LOVE IT SO MUCH HE'S SO HAPPY!!!!!! Anywho, keep in mind that I'm in school and am taking a bajillion music and honors classes so I'm pact full, so be patient. I have a lot of requests in and trust me I WILL get to all of them, I just need time, so I would appreciate patience!!
