Chapter Six~You Do

A few days passed, and as Sans suspected, Chara lived with them now. She couldn't just turn Toriel down. Besides, she was human now, and needed human things like food and water. She had no where else to go. Frisk tried to talk to her multiple times, but Chara rarely spoke. She isolated herself. Flowey was often with her, on her shoulder mostly, and if not, in his pot on the windowsill in Chara's room.

It was currently quite late at night, Frisk estimated around 2 a.m, when he was woken up by a sharp yelp. He heard quiet crying, and he got out of bed. He walked towards the sound, leaving his room. He was surprised to find it was coming from Chara's. He listened a bit, hearing Flowey.

"Ch- Chara...? Wh- What happened?" Flowey was asking.

No answer. At least, nothing able to be understood.

"N- Nightmare...?"

Frisk decided to choose now to quietly knock on the door.

"C- Come in." Flowey said quietly, against Chara's wishes. Frisk opened the door a little, then all the way and he walked in.

"Hey." Frisk greeted quietly, sitting next to Chara. She was crying, hugging her legs tightly. "I'd ask if you were alright, but it's kinda obvious you're not. What's wrong?"

"N- Nothing you need T- to worry a- about." Chara muttered between sobbing breaths. She tried to stop, but it was difficult to.

"Chara, please... Talk." Frisk murmured. He felt compassion for the girl. On the outside, she was cold, rude. But Frisk could tell that she was empty, hopeless. There wasn't an ounce of light in her eyes. Frisk would even go as far to say that... That she was broken. He'd do whatever he could to help. He had to... He had to.

"Y- You shouldn't worry about me. W- Worry about y- your friends... Don't waste your t- time on me..." Chara stuttered.

"You are my friend." Frisk stated firmly. "I care about you. Sans may not, but I do, Flowey does, Toriel does. I want to help, Chara." Frisk insisted. Flowey watched from the windowsill, worry in his eyes. Chara looked Frisk in the eyes.

"I- I don't deserve this. I... I don't deserve any of this." She said shakily. Chara had stopped crying by now, but her breaths were quick and ragged. "I don't I don't I don't I don't I-" She was cut off by Frisk hugging her. She fought the urge to cry again as Frisk said his next two words.

"You do."
