My Home Away (RichardHigley)
My Home Away
I found this joint by accident,
I stopped to quench a raging thirst,
And stayed to hear the show.
So many voices, young and old,
Had quite a lot to say.
The drinks were classy, high end hooch,
I didn't have to pay.
The conversations rumbling buzz
Was quick to fade away,
Made space to hear a poet speak,
To hear what she may say.
The spot light shone, the mic was hot,
The verse, a lively dance.
With faces rapt, the audience
Gave everyone a chance.
I took my turn, a four poem set,
And bathed in claps and cheers.
Reactions loving, warm and kind,
Left my eyes running tears.
This place, through real's, ethereal,
Not something one can touch.
It reaches out to minds and hearts
With images to clutch.
The pictures wrought by words on lines
Are treasured, lovely finds,
Massaged and shaped by people who
Have really twisted minds.
