II - Letters to Magnus
Alec bit his lip as he watched Magnus work from the doorway of Magnus' office. He had tried his hardest to 'be good' in his case and let Magnus work; but this was about to have him snap. He wanted his boyfriend back. He wanted to be able to hold and spend time with Magnus with no troubles of demon attacks or Magnus' overly demanding clients. He left the doorway, unnoticed, and headed to the kitchen. He had watched Magnus make tea so many times that he had practically knew how by heart.
He made Magnus some tea and took it back to him. He entered the office silently and gently placed the tea on the desk. He bit his lip as he saw Magnus flipping through pages and searching through words, Alec couldn't hint to understand. He gently kissed the top of Magnus' head before leaving the room. Once the door was closed behind him, he decided best for him to go do laundry and let Magnus be.
~ A few weeks later ~
Alec groaned as he was healed in the infirmary at the institute. His sister, Isabelle standing next to the medical bed. "Alec, that was a shit move." She said. "Don't you think I know that?" He looked at her. "Why did you do it?" She asked him, siting down beside him. "You know why.." he trailed off. She bit her lip. "He's still working?" Alec looked down. Izzy sighed. "Alec, you need to do something about this." Alec looked at his sister, almost desperately. "Like what?" That's when Izzy got an idea.
Alec got back to Magnus' loft once he was released from the infirmary. He looked and saw that Magnus was hard at work again. He went into Magnus' office and noticed some old pieces of blank parchment paper. "Hey.. Magnus?" He asked. Magnus looked up at him. "Yes, Alexander?" Alec turned to him. "Are you ever going to use these pieces of parchment paper?" Magnus shook his head. "If you can find a better use for them, you can use them." Alec nodded. "Can I also barrow some wax melts?" Magnus raised an eyebrow at him but nodded. "Thanks." Alec smiled softly. He grabbed what he needed before he left the room. Magnus watched him curiously and bit his lip. 'What's he up to?' He thought curiously.
Alec went back their room and sat down at the table. He had brought the Lightwood seal stamp with him so he could write out all of these letters. 'This has to work,' he thought as he wrote out everything carefully,'If this doesn't save our relationship. I don't know what will.'
~ The next day ~
Alec had spent all of the previous day writing letters to Magnus to see if it would help fix their relationship. Before Magnus woke up the next morning, Alec had made him coffee and set it on the kitchen table, along with the first letter. He then went through out the house and placed 2 more letters. He then went to the nearest Cafe and asked them to hold an order of Lemon and Chocolate cake with the fourth letter. They agreed. He checked his watch and made a dash to the institute. There, he hid a letter with Izzy and one in the gardens; where a bouquet of roses were placed on a table by the greenery. He then took the last letter with him to where him and Magnus had claimed as their special spot.
Magnus had woken up to a cold bed. Glancing, he saw that Alec wasn't next to him. He sat up confused and looked around the room, still not seeing Alexander. He got out of bed and got dressed before going to see if Alec was in the kitchen. As he went through the loft, he noticed different envelopes with numbers on them. The number 3 was on the letter he saw in his room, and number 2 on the couch. He saw a cup of coffee on the table and a letter with the number 1 on it. Magnus went over and smiled softly, sitting down and starting to drink his cup of coffee as he opened up the letter.
'Magnus,
If you're reading this, I've gone out of my way to set up a little game of sorts for you. It's come to my attention that we need a bit more romance or spark in our relationship about now. So, I'm sending you on a little scavenger hunt. Don't worry, this won't be tedious-at least I hope it won't- and I'm sure it'll put a smile on your face. So let's get started, Yea? You already found the first letter, and the next two will be pretty easy. But as for the second letter, it's where we like to cuddle and binge watch your favorite mundane shows on our days off.
Sincerely, Alec ~'
Magnus smiled and finished his coffee before going to the living room and picking up the second envelope. He sat down on the couch and opened it up.
'My dearest Magnus,
See? Easy right? The next one will be too. But first, let's just take a moment to reflect Yea? And no, not back to all the nights we've spent watching re-runs of Project Runway or America's next top model. But of that night I helped you clean and heal Luke. The night I gave you strength and afterwards, I cleaned up your couch for you. You were so straightforward that night. It was difficult for me to even talk with you. Anyway, back to the hunt. The next letter is where you usually sit every morning to cake yourself in useless makeup that you insist you need.
Love, Alec ~'
Magnus chuckled softly and made his way to his room, over to his vanity. Sitting down, he opened the next letter and began to read.
'Dearest Magnus,
I can't even imagine the amount of times I've tried to get you to not put makeup on around me. And how many times you've told me you needed Makeup to be 'beautiful'. But I keep on telling you, and I mean with with all of my heart, you are just-if not more- beautiful without your makeup then with your makeup. Because it shows me that you're comfortable enough to see the real side of you. Allows me to see your captivating cat eyes that I adore and can't help but admit that send a shiver down my spine. You're beautiful just the way you are. I hope one day I'll get you to believe that.
Sincerely, Alec ~
P.s: You're next letter is at our favorite place to grab a quick coffee or even a little bite of cake'
Magnus bit his lip and thought for a second before he shot up, grabbed his things and left his loft for the nearest cafe, where he liked to take Alec for coffee and date nights.
He smiled as he got to his favorite coffee shop which was the closest one to the apartment. He entered and smiled at the familiar cozy-home feeling. He looked up when one of the barista's called out to him. "Magnus?" He went up to the counter as she handed him a slice of lemon cake and a slice of chocolate cake, as well as the letter. "Thank you," He smiled, taking the letter. "Could I get these cakes to go?" The barista smiled and nodded, boxing them up as Magnus read the letter.
'My dearest Magnus,
I hope you enjoy what I've ordered for you. I know these two are your favorites. I know a good bit about you, huh? Heh. Now it's Your turn to see how much you know about me. I will say that your next letter is with my dearest and most cherished person, sadly whom you're second to because it's family related. And before you get jealous, no, it's not Jace. Jace may be my parabatai, but he's an idiot.
With love, Alec ~'
Magnus smiled and took the now boxed up cake slices from the barista and wished the girl a good day. He then made his way to the Institute. He had a pretty good idea on who had the next letter.
Once he walked up to the doors of the New York Institute, he called up the one and only, Isabelle Lightwood. She answered after a few rings. "Hello?" Magnus smiled,"Izzy! It's Magnus, Could you let me in for a second? Alexander said he left something for me." "Oh! Of course give me one second." She answered before the two hung up. Magnus waited a total of three minutes before the large church doors opened and Izzy stepped out. She smiled and gave Magnus a friendly hug. "So, Alec left you something?" Magnus nodded,"Said it'd be with you." Izzy feigned confusion and bit her lip as she thought for a second. "Sorry, Alec didn't give me anything." Magnus felt his heart stop slightly. "A-Are you sure? He was insistent that it would be with you. Oh god! Who else could it be with-!" He was cut off when Izzy shoved an envelope at his face. "Stop your worrying," she chuckled,"I was teasing." Magnus let out a breath of relief and took the envelope. "You're cruel, Isabelle Lightwood." She scoffed at him and smiled. "Go get him, lover boy." She winked before heading back inside.
Magnus smiled and opened the letter almost immediately.
'My Dearest Magnus,
Just two more, love. And then you and I can relax with a bottle of champagne. Your next letter is in an area where you and my mum share an interest. Where Angel Lillies and blood red Roses exist side by side. Although, I took the liberty of getting you a bouquet of your favorite flowers ahead of time. You love these flowers because of their simplicity and tender meaning. And I'll give you a hint of the color. They're as gold as the glitter in your eyeshadow.
With all my love, Alexander ~'
Magnus smiled widely, butterflies filling up within his chest and stomach; something he hadn't felt in weeks— much to his sudden disappointment. He made quick to the gardens of the institute, within the back. He looked as he entered the gazebo that was encircled by Maryse Lightwood's prized roses. He gasped as he saw a vase of a matte green color, holding a grand bouquet of golden roses. Magnus felt tears come to his eyes as he felt the petals of the precious flowers. They were authentic. Genuine. Alec made sure of it. Alexander. His Alexander. Did all of this for him. Magnus glanced around the table and practically snatched the envelope that was hidden in the shadow of the vase. He smiled and kissed the wax seal before opening up the letter.
'Magnus, my beautiful and dearest Magnus,
Your hunt is almost complete. This letter will send you to your last letter and then to me. I hope these letters have been exciting for you. We haven't done anything this exciting for a while and I thought it'd bring some passion back into our relationship. I do love you dearly. I hope that through this little game of ours has shown you that. Anyway, enough of pushing and cranking up the anticipation. Your final letter is with me, at our special place. I'll be waiting for you, my prince ~
Yours, now and forever, Alexander ~'
Magnus felt a new rush of adrenaline. Hearing— well, rather seeing— Alec call him 'his prince' gave him a sense of purpose, a sort of surge of power. He hurried, still holding on to the cakes from the café, to the bundle of bushes that acted as an archway to a hidden lake. The lake that he and Alec both dubbed their special place. He went through he archway and smiled widely as he saw Alec sitting on a picnic blanket, on the bank of the lake. He ran and practically tackled Alec in the biggest hug he could muster. Hearing Alec's angelic laughter ringing in his ears.
Magnus cupped Alec's face gently and kissed him. Alec returned the kiss gladly. Alec sat up with Magnus in his lap and pulled away after a bit. He smiled at Magnus and handed him the last letter, which Magnus took gladly and opened.
'My Beloved Magnus,
This little hunt of ours was to see if there was still the spark of passion within you for me. I love you more then my words can say. So I'll just let these words do it for me:
Some people long for a life that is simple and planned
Tied with a ribbon
Some people won't sail the sea 'cause they're safer on land
To follow what's written
But I'd follow you to the great unknown
Off to a world we call our own
Hand in my hand and we promised to never let go
We're walking the tightrope
High in the sky
We can see the whole world down below
We're walking the tightrope
Never sure, never know how far we could fall
But it's all an adventure
That comes with a breathtaking view
Walking the tightrope
With you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
With you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
With you
Mountains and valleys, and all that will come in between
Desert and ocean
You pulled me in and together we're lost in a dream
Always in motion
So I risk it all just to be with you
And I risk it all for this life we choose
Hand in my hand and you promised to never let go
We're walking the tightrope
High in the sky
We can see the whole world down below
We're walking the tightrope
Never sure, will you catch me if I should fall?
Well, it's all an adventure
That comes with a breathtaking view
Walking the tightrope
With you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
With you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
With you
With you, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh
With you, ooh-ooh-ooh
With you ~
I hope this shows you how important you are to me, Magnus. I wouldn't trade anything we have. Simply cause I don't want anything else. I don't want the world, I want you. Please remember that.
With the greatest of loves, Your Alexander ~'
Magnus looked into Alec's eyes and saw the love and sincerity swimming within the Shadowhunter's ocean blue eyes. He kissed him softly, Alec returning it greatly. "I love you too, Alexander," Magnus whispered. "For now and forever."
