On a hot summer's day when still in my early teens, probably fourteen or so. I'm not saying it was in the time of the Dinosaurs, but I wasn't old enough to ride a motorbike or drive a car. It was during one of those long summer school breaks when boredom, not a pandemic was the biggest enemy we faced. Being kids who spent most of our time on the streets, we had already used the last penny in our pockets, to get us into town. We kicked a few cans around, before coming up with the crazy notion, that it would be a good idea to thumb a lift, hitching a ride to the nearest beach. 

Taking the road out of town, we walked along the roadside kerb, and with no success, we wagged our thumbs in vain, at the passing traffic. Then suddenly, I was brought to a thudding halt, walking blindly into a chest height power hub. After suffering the humiliation of my friend's laughter, I carried on unperturbed. The next thing I remember is waking up in the gutter, staring at the sky, this time I'd walked headlong into the street lighting.
