Alive
You gasp, eyes flying open as you crash against something like stone and it breaks beneath you, making you sink into the water just below the surface. You blink in startled confusion feeling water invade your suit, your back stinging from an injury on your back. You gasp as the water starts to invade your helmet and swiftly claw for the hole you had just made. An odd bellowing sound like a roar surrounds you and you swim faster, practically leaping from the water when you reach the surface, looking back as a massive midnight blue creature breaks through the thin layer of crust, sending water all over. You stagger back in horror at the crocodile and whale type features just as it flops onto the ground, breaking through and cracking the ground around you. Your eyes widen in terror as your piece of ground breaks off from the main. You swiftly hop to a bigger piece, looking around and finding you were in some type of crater. You start to hop from piece to piece for the closest hill out. You hear light splashes behind you and feel your heart squeeze as you hop onto the main ground and start to run glancing back as the creature breaks through the ground behind you, long razor sharp teeth glinting as it opens its massive jaws.
You scream and duck making it leap clear over you and through the ground again. "Fuck you! Fuck you!" You shout staying on the main ground and running around the gaping hole it had just made, too scared to look at the pitch black water. You near the hill and release a breath of relief too soon as the ground in front of you suddenly erupts and the creature comes flying at you. You dive out of the way and swiftly regain your footing running up the hill and stopping at the top looking around red and rocky terrain.
"Mars..?" You murmur in amazement and pause taking a deep breath. "I'm alive??... No... No that can't be possible..." You mutter fidgeting and removing your helmet, looking at the severe burns on the back of the helmet. "I should've been crushed... I shouldn't be breathing at all!" You feel your face before turning your head to peer at your back and wince at sight of the burn that covered your back.
The ground below in the cater erupts and your eyes widen as you stagger out of the way, watching the slick wet body crash onto the spot where you had been standing a moment before. It turns it's head trying to snap at you, body turning and losing balance before rolling down the other side of the hill.
"Well, that's ov-" You shut your mouth as a giant red furred feline leaps onto the creature. It looked a lot like a sabertooth from where you stood but instead of one pair over sized fangs it had two pairs side by side. You stiffly and carefully move away from the seen as the Er... Let's call it Red Saber tears into the other creature.
"Nope.." You mutter glancing back every so often to make sure it didn't spot you.
After some time you relax no longer feeling as if you were in immediate danger, instead, now you were becoming aware that you may not survive until the ship landed there. You stop briefly to look around, tensing when a slender dark shape disappears behind some rocks. A dog??
You shake your head and swiftly check the ground around you for something that looked like a weapon. Finding something ivory sticking out from the soft soil. You stoop down and pull it out, pausing as the large shield shaped ivory plate comes out. You raise an eyebrow and shrug, gripping it with both hands as you look around carefully.
"Alright... I need... Shelter, then food, then... Water..." You peer back toward the crater and shiver. "Ah... The water can wait..." You mutter looking toward the mountain as you near it. You walk alongside it silently, looking over every now and then when you hear a clicking sound.
You swallow and walk faster as the wind picks up the clicking sound becoming more frequent. You find a hole in the rocky wall and swiftly duck in wedging the ivory plate in place. You sit back against the wall and wince as the burn sends waves of pain through your body. You lean forward letting put a pained breath.
The wind outside begins to roar louder. You close your eyes and start to count again, ignoring the clicking on the other side of the plank.
One. Don't give up... Two. Better things will come... Three. You're not alone... Four. You are loved... Five. Everything is going to be okay.... Six. Come back to me...
The wind dies down, and your eyes ease open. What time was it? How may hours have passed? Your stomach snarls, reminding you again that you were hungry. You carefully push the ivory plate out and peer around.
After a few moments you ease out, taking the plate with you as you continue along the wall, looking around for something to eat. Something catches your eye and you stop, kneeling beside a red stemmed plant with round pale green fruits that weighed it down to the sand. You kneel and pick one.
"I hope this doesn't kill me..." You mutter taking a bite into the sweet minty and banana like tasting fruit. You hum in pleasant surprise and silently pray it wasn't poisonous. You finish eating it and smile thoughtfully grabbing a few more before carrying on. You look up at the lavender starry sky. "They should be landing soon.." You murmur searching for an orange dot.
Clicking makes you look over with a jolt seeing the short haired slender dog like creature easing toward you with its head lowered, long fangs hanging down an inch past it's chin, two pairs of reddish eyes boring into you. You move the ivory plate to shield yourself, watching it cautiously. It clicks it's tongue head jerking to keep sight of your helmet. You blink and pause reaching into the helmet and grabbing a fruit.
You toss the fruit to it jumping slightly as the dog creature catches it and devours it in a flash, drooling slightly. It's pointed tongue runs over it's lips. You swallow starting to ease away but it follows, two tails swishing behind it. You shift watching it warily before your attention is drawn to the sky as sonic boom shakes the atmosphere. The creature flees at that and you look over as it vanishes behind some rocks.
You look back up and smile to yourself. "Thank god they're landing on this side of the planet..." You murmur as the shuttle comes into sight.
