2. welcome to corroded coffin
August of 85'
Kathryn stepped out of her shiny red car. That car of hers was her baby that she had begged her parents to get for her as compensation for staying in Hawkins. With much reluctance they finally agreed to buying it.
Out of the back seat the girl grabbed a notebook so she could take some notes about the music they were going to practice .
Walking into Jeffs' garage with her notebook, she got an overwhelming whiff of weed and paused.
"Are you guys seriously smoking weed right now before my first practice back as an official member?" Kathryn questioned them.
"No definitely not." Gareth hid the blunt he had in his hand behind his back.
"Bullshit Gareth I'm not stupid, no one else is hiding it." Truth be told she wanted in on the fun.
"Alright fine, yes we are."
"I want to too." Kathryn blurted. Gareth and Johnny were a little shocked, but Eddie and Jeff weren't at all.
Gareth wasn't sure what to do.
"Your brother is a fucking cop!" Gareth shouts out.
"It's weed it isn't crack Gareth. We literally did this freshman year all the time up until when we got caught. Come on."
"You heard the lady, it's in there." Eddie pointed to the black box located on a folding chair.
In the box was an extra roll that Garreth grabbed and lit for her.
She blew a puff of smoke when she finally had it in her hand. She was still at it after about 20 minutes had passed.
"Yea my ass is going to get beat when I get home if they smell this weed on me."
It wouldn't be her first time getting caught smoking weed. There was this time her freshman year when she did, her parents were livid and grounded her for months.
"Maybe it'll be better than it was freshman year. Eddie said.
It would either be 100 times worse or a 100 times better, no in between. Her parents would either scold her because she was fixing to go to college and she's doing drugs or they would be okay with it since she was older. With her parents she never knew.
"Slight chance, but If they knew I was with you guys again they would go absolutely ballistic."
"Your parents never have liked us, have they? I want to know what's so bad about us. I mean we're really good role models." Eddie spit out causing Johnny to cackle. Corroded coffin was nothing but bad influences.
"Cough cough. Says the drug dealer." Kathryn did a really bad impression of coughing with the joint in one hand.
"Touché Callahan, Touché."
"She knows about that!?" Jonny exclaimed.
all of them except Johnny (the only sober one) decided to sit down on the floor right then sorta in a small circle where the instruments weren't at.
"Of course I know about that. I know all of Eddie's darkest secrets. Remember the time he went bald in middle school? He was literally trying to impress Chrissy freaking Cunningham, the guy she liked had a buzz cut so this idiot got one too and then complained till it grew out." She kept pointing thumbs at him.
"I remember that, that was hilarious." Gareth laughed.
"We tried to tell him not to." Jeff shrugged.
They all busted out laughing uncontrollably.
"Cut it out guys, that's not what happened." Eddie whined
"Pff sure." Kathryn recalled the memory vividly.
"Okay maybe it is, but you remember the time Earl Hackle had a crush on you and you cried for weeks because he wouldn't leave you alone?" Eddie stretched the truth just a little bit.
"First off I absolutely did not cry for weeks, I cried one day. Second off he was weird as hell. The boy made me poems about my pigtails." She stopped "poems plural!"
"That's no where as bad as the time when we were 10 and Jeff had that big crush on your cousin. You thought it was hilarious so you told her and made her write a note to meet her at the playground, then you gave Terry Outermen your lunch to dress up as Michael Myers and scare him." Gareth was crying from laughing so much.
"He was so scared he shit his pants." More laughing abrupt from Kat.
"I did not shit my pants!" He defended.
"I don't know man. That sounds like something someone who shit their pants would say." Eddie snickered.
"Eddie you can't say anything either, you almost shit your pants at the hideout when we first started playing there. There were 3 people in the crowd. One of them was your uncle." Jeff stuck his tongue out.
"Real mature." Kathryn uttered.
Eddie stuck his tongue out in response.
"Well there goes you being the oldest of us all." Kathryn spoke again.
"Suck it."
"You're such a child." She cackled.
"Am not."
"You totally are."
"I am n-."
Jeff cut him off. "We're not doing this. Not doing the back and forth am not, are so thing."
"are so." Kathryn whispered.
"Who's the child now?!" Eddie waved both hands over at her.
"You!"
"No you." Eddie was once again cut off, this time by Gareth.
"Enough. Let's talk about happy things so we can stop arguing, how about the fact that Kathryn's here right now?"
"Oh wow yea! This is the only good part about Hawkins" Kat tried spreading out almost hitting her head on the drum set next to her.
"There are more things, we'll show you eventually." Jeff said before everyone went quiet.
She really zoned out when everyone was silent.
"Wow I'm really hungry."
"Yea me too. Jeff!" Gareth yelled out even though he was right next to him.
"Please get us food!"
Jeff got up after a lot of hungry pleads and went inside to grab something
When he came back empty handed there were a lot of groans.
"Jeff come on man where's the food?" Gareth frowned.
"There's no food! It's like my monster siblings ate it all."
"Monster siblings!" Kathryn roared in a fit of laughter.
No one else really laughed much, they just stared at her and went still.
They were noiseless once more when Eddie started getting up.
"Wait I have a great idea." Eddie broke the quietude.
"What is it?" Gareth and Jeff said at the same exact time.
"Let's walk to that one bakery. It's like two blocks down from here." Eddie suggested.
"Let's do it!" Kathryn swiftly raised from the ground- followed by the rest of the boys. Johnny trailed behind them as they walked straight out of the garage. He was the one who was going to make sure they didn't get their selves into trouble.
They all kept a tight pact walking on the grass beside the road.
After a few minutes they made it to their destination.
The bakery was called 'Elsie's Baked Sweets' a small older looking brick building with white banners strung from either side of the small place. It looked and smelled like an ordinary bakery.
the smell of fresh baked goods wafted outside making Kats' stomach twirl.
"What do you guys want? I'm going to go inside since I'm the only sensible person right now." Johnny stated.
"Cookies. Chocolate chip" Kathryn insisted. She had always loved cookies and since coming back, every time she's had them in Hawkins they've reminded her of the ones her Nana made in Montana.
None of the other boys objected to having the chocolate chip cookies she was so fond of so Jonny headed in to buy them. He was going to make them pay him back later.

While waiting, someone from school ran into them. Lori Chén was wearing a nice green shirt with a denim pair of overalls covering it.
"Kathryn hey!" Lori looked down at the ground where the members of the band layed spread our.
"Hey Lori. What are you doing over here?" She retorted.
"This bakery's really good. Also what are you doing hanging out with them?" She stared at them.
"Never mind that was rude. maybe we can do something out with Judith. I'll give you the number to my land line.
She wrote it down on a small piece of paper.
"Okay I gotta hurry. My grandma will be mad if these raisin cookies are cold by the time I get home."
"See you at school tomorrow Lori."
"Bye." She waved. It was back to being frustratingly silent.
Around 10 minutes later everyone was still sitting in the parking lot of Elsie's bakery when Johnny walked out with a pink box of a dozen cookies.
"You're a fucking life saver!" Kathryn said practically stuffing her face only a few moments after.
"Slow down you eat like a pig." Jeff joked.
"Shut it. I'm starving. Lunch at school is absolute shit." She continued eating.
"Let her enjoy them, these are fucking delicious." Eddie holds up his cookie like it's an actual angel, before taking a huge bite.
"An absolute work of art." Gareth agreed nodding.
"Come on. I know the cookies are great, but let's go back it's probably almost 6:00." Johnny pushed them towards the direction of Jeffs' house.
Walking through the neighborhood Kathryn started remembering more old memories from before the band had even been founded.
"Look over there!" Kathryn pointed getting closer.
The place she was pointing at was one of their places they hung out at when they were younger.
"No way. That's Mr. Warner's house." All the boys remembered and ran closer after Kathryn. Mr. Warner was the bunch's fifth grade teacher. The place looked the exact same.
They hung out there all the time, along with half of the now senior class of Hawkins. His granddaughters were in the same grade till they moved away and everyone wanted to come over to swim in the pool.
"Do you guys know what I'm thinking?" Eddie queried.
"Hell no! If it's what I think it is it's not happening." Johnny declared trying to stand his ground. He was not letting them get arrested.
Eddie taunted him by taking a step closer to the old man's backyard.
"Stop that! For all we know Mr. Warner could be long dead and the pool could be dug up." He proclaimed in a low voice.
"We're just checking it out." Kathryn ogled at the backyard as she looked through a hole in the gate that stood mostly firm.
"Unbelievable, the things still there and it looks like it's still open." Johnny gasped.
Jeff started climbing the fence followed by Gareth and Eddie. Kat was contemplating wether she should or not, taking only a few second to decide before ultimately jumping over.
Once all over they stared at the pool.
"All of you are idiots." Johnny was still behind the fence sitting down to keep watch.
"Relax fellow companion. There were no cars parked in the front. Nobody's home." Eddie looked through the fence right at him.
"Okay whatever you guy's have fun."
"We will." Eddie pulled off his shirt , socks, shoes and pants cannon balling in.
"Sick." Gareth spoke doing the same, Jeff undressing to.
Kathryn sorta folded her arms. She wasn't sure if she should undress too at first, but she told herself fuck it and stripped to her underwear.
She strolled over to the edge of the pool and sat down. With her feet in the water, she was watching the boys fake fight for a few minutes when all of a sudden Eddie pulled her in.
"fuck! This pools cold as balls. It's only August." Kathryn wailed.
Eddie just smirked.
"Perv." She griped as they all laughed.
"I'm hurt." He assured dramatically.
"I'm sure you are jerk."
"I am not a jerk."
"You pulled me into this damn pool."
"That is a fair point, but alas what is there to do about it?"
She splashed him.
"Oh we're playing that game." He splashed back.
"We are so playing that game."
Soon they were all splashing each other.
Unfortunately this lasted all but a matter of seconds before they heard something or someone coming from the door.
A petite older lady with gray hair and glasses came outside.
"I thought I heard racket. You kids better not move. The police are on their way." Jeff was listening from over the fence and boy was he pissed at them.
None of them knew what to do so they got out.
"You all better hope they show up before my husband does."
They didn't.
All of them got out and dressed quick.
Her husband had just pulled in the driveway.
Kathryn wasn't sure about the others, but her heart was beating rapidly, especially when she heard the man's shoes patter through the house to the back door, and as it slowly cracked open.
Sure enough it was their old teacher Mr. Warner. The man looked the exact same just older in the face with grayer hair.
"What in God's name are all of you doing in our pool? This is our home."
"We're really sorry sir, this is my fault. If you're Mr. Warner we were once your students. We used to always come here to swim and wanted to see if the pool was still up. No one was home."
"Your names?" The man inquired.
"Eddie Munson."
"Kathryn Callahan."
"Gareth Lane."
"Jeff Campbell."
The man pondered. He remembered them, the little ones they used to be.
"I remember the lot of you, but that doesn't excuse trespassing. You all have to promise you won't do this again unless you ask." They all promised to him.
"I'll tell the cops my wife didn't know I invited my old students over to visit and I forgot you were all coming and had to grab groceries, so I left a note at the door telling you to go outback to swim."
"Thank you sir we are so sorry." Eddie admitted honestly.
"Don't thank me, just don't do it again. We're going to wait till the cops get here."
Katheryn was shivering. Not only from being cold in partially wet clothes, but also from the thought of her brother finding her at a random persons house.
"Welcome to Corroded Coffin Kat. How many other bands do you know that would welcome you with weed, an illegal pool party and a criminal record?" Eddie put a hand on her shoulder as they waited. He noticed she was shaky.
"Zero thankfully. Is this going to be a new annual initiation to the band?"she scorned.
"Look I'm sorry about this." He kept his hand on her shoulder still.
"You should be. This was all your mess. Now my brothers either going to hear from his friends and tell our parents or see it with his own two eyes and tell them."
The truth hurt.
Everything went silent for a little. The couple brought towels and everyone dried off. Then the cop car showed up.
"Officer i'm sorry I forgot to tell my wife about some students of mine that were coming over to swim. I had to run to get something, and told them to go ahead to the pool. I truly am sorry for the misunderstanding. It's getting later so please make sure the kiddos get home safely."
That cop didn't believe a word he said. This was Eddie Munson. In his world the freak would always be one bad trouble maker.
"You're fine Mr. Warner, just make sure you tell your wife things next time." The cop replied blankly.
"Will do young man." He shook his hand goodbye. Kathryn put her head down trying to face the floor so the cop couldn't see who she was.
They went through the back door and the cop almost walked straight out without saying anything else, till he got a nice look at her face.
"You have to be kidding me." The man with a mustache puts a palm to his head.
"Get in the car. I don't know where the hell yours is, but you'll get it some other time. I'm sure mom and dad are going to love the fact that you're with that Munson boy and his posey of freaks."
Kathryn got in the car as fast as she could. She knew she was in tor a treat, a not so nice surprise.
A/N heres this chapter unedited! I wrote most of this at 3 am yesterday and it now 1 am so here I am finishing it. Rereading this it's painfully obvious that I wrote this on the verge of falling asleep.
Also I have never smoked weed so I have no clue how it really feels, but here you go!
(I think I'm going to edit this chapter to be more like the scene in it with Beverly and the boys at the quarry. )
