FIVE. RECOGNIZE

Destiny packed up the school camera, asking for permission to keep it till the weekend. If she was going to help Julie and Flynn with the Instagram page, she had to keep the camera just in case of anything. Excitement filled the small body of her, the brown hair was pulled into a high ponytail, her bangs just getting in the way of her sight. The tapping of her foot started picking up pace, at any moment her ankle would start cramping if she didn't change the taps to her other foot, her brother's vehicle appeared in front of her, the silhouette of her father in the driver's seat made Destiny happier.

"Hey Kiddo, how was school today?" Her father said that even before she had the opportunity to place her seatbelt.

"Amazing Dad, I actually have an invitation to Julie's house, I am helping her with her band on social media and Julie said she could drive me to the school dance," Destiny rambled her words she thought she might need to repeat herself "which is today by the way, sorry forgot to remind you that." Her words slowed down, but her father had gotten used to her rapid mumbles.

"Well that sounds amazing, if you have her address I think I could drop you off right now, I got work to do, and, if you haven't eaten I'll give you money, order something with Julie and you two have fun, of course." Destiny pulled the note from her backpack, saying out loud the destination. "Yeah, I know where that is, not too far from Logan's house actually." Logan, a friend of Kendall's, Destiny remembered him very well. Logan was a very nice guy, always looking out for everyone, smart, and keeping Kendall out of trouble.

"I'll be picking you up at the dance, you text me twenty minutes before, got it?" Destiny's father pointed at her, the girl nodded her head and gripping gently his finger as a response.

Destiny saw the new change of scenery, she hadn't gone to another's house in a while and she missed the adrenaline, the feeling of meeting new people. Julie wasn't exactly someone new but having someone to talk to was new. Even in this different way of doing and having ghosts become the reason to be their talking topic, well, she thanked them.

"Alright, here we are kiddo, remember, twenty minutes before." Destiny nodded her head kissing his cheek as a goodbye. Destiny headed over to the entrance door, knocking a few times, and waited, her hands holding tightly the straps of her backpack, she turned around to check if her father had driven away but he was there, making sure she got inside safely.

The door opened and a man figure appeared, a warm smile drawn over his lips, he looked down at her with his blue eyes, soft and kind, just like the energy he portrayed.

"How may I help you?" He asked Destiny, he looked behind her and noticed the car, waving at Destiny's father.

"I'm here to see Julie? I'm Destiny, a friend from school." She spoke, Julie's father, as she imagined it was, nodded his head.

"Right, Julie told me you were coming, she's in the garage, just follow the steps down and you'll find it, if anything just knock again." He said pointing at the direction for her to go. Destiny turned to wave her father goodbye but the sudden walk of Julie's das toward the vehicle indicated to the teenager that two men were gonna start talking and get to know each other. Destiny chuckled rolling her eyes at the sight of them, it was good to know that even her father would start to make friendships today.

The brunette made her way to the backyard, opening the wooden door that was in the path, she could hear in the distance the notes of a piano, it suddenly came to her mind, she would see those ghosts again, her heard started thumping against her chest, her shaky hands commenced, this was insane, why was she doing these, she shouldn't have told Julie and just continue living her life, but these ghosts and their familiarity was just like a little rock in her shoe that she really wanted out.

She knocked on the garage door, the notes of the piano stopped playing, hushing sounds were heard from the other side of the wooden doors, Julie appeared and smiled at her eyes looked at Destiny standing there.

"Hi Des, come on in." She step aside, the brunette walked inside, Reggie and Luke were standing beside the piano, Reggie waved at her but didn't say a word.

"Wait, does Julie know you can see us?" Reggie asked Destiny, both girls looked at each other and back at the boys "Oh she knows, how do you know?"

"Destiny told me you visited her home last Friday," Julie explained and took a step forward, her hands on her hips "Why were you two doing there?"

"We didn't know she could see us." Luke blurted out both is his hands up as surrender.

"You haven't answered my question, why were you two there? You almost scared her to death." Julie looked back at Destiny who shrugged at her.

"I saw a flyer that said about talking to spirits and well I told Luke about it and we were hoping that maybe we could ask for help, we had an idea of contacting the medium with messages and notes around the house but," Reggie stopped and looked at Destiny "she was able to see us and it changed everything."

"Wait, you can talk to spirits?" Julie was now curious, her body turned to face the other girl.

"I don't, my mom was the one who was able to contact spirits, ghosts anything really, I am actually a non-believer, well," She chuckled "Your friends here, are actually making me question everything I used to know or unknown about the afterlife." Destiny said, Julie pouted, she hummed as she was thinking of something.

"Well whatever is the reason behind this, I am happy to know I am not the only one who can see them outside of any type of performance, which we are having today." Luke and Reggie looked at each other confused, Julie chuckled making her way back to the piano where she had placed her backpack, Julie pulled out the flyer Flynn had made, she set it on the piano for the boys.

Destiny sat on the couch behind them, her eyes looking at the ghostly pair, if she hadn't seen them before she would've thought they were real, actual boys, not dead guys whose spirits got stuck on earth for whatever reason. Julie kept on doing her stuff as the ghosts looked at the flyer.

"We're playing at a school dance? Sweet." Reggie exclaimed with a grin on his lips and showing it off to Luke.

"It's not exactly the Strip." Julie chuckled at the comment of Luke, her focus returning to watering a plant she had at the small section of a greenhouse.

"You guys never played at a school dance?" Destiny asked, both of the boys turned their head to look at her, Luke was the first to shake his head.

"We were more of club players, that was our area of specialty." Reggie answered Destiny, he looked back at Luke the flyer still in his hands "and you're not exactly alive, so you should be happy we have our first gig." Reggie had a point, things were now different, if they wanted to get to a bigger spot they had to start small, even if it meant a school dance.

"I wasn't in love with the idea at first either," Julie spoke up again getting the attention of everyone "but, it could be a great way for us to build a following, right?" Destiny agreed with Julie, this was an opportunity for the band.

"Yeah, yeah." Reggie nodded his head, agreeing with the girl "We need to play, wherever we can, whenever we can."

"I mean, you guys can play whenever, you are kinda stuck here." Destiny tried her best to not come off as rude, even though she felt as if it did, but the snap coming from Reggie showed her that she had a point and that they knew she was right.

"No, you're right." Luke's voice changed from being down to agreeing with the idea "Let's rock those kid's faces off and then play the clubs." Julie's smile appeared again on her face coming closer to them.

"And then record a single that gets a billion streams?" Luke looked at her confused unknown of what it meant "Then we release a bunch of hit albums."

"Put out a country album that does surprisingly well," Reggie suggested, the comment made Destiny chuckled, if her brother had heard that he would be supportive of it, hell, even Destiny would buy copies of that country album, but she wasn't going to accept it out loud. "I shred at the banjo, so." Reggie added as if it was an explanation as to why they should make the album, Julie just said to him that she would learn how to fiddle, being supportive of his dreams.

"And before you know it, we're being inducted into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame." Luke pounded his hands into the top of the piano, the emotion was clearly shown, he was excited to reach his dreams.

Destiny drifted off in her thoughts, she was looking at the pair, their names ringing in her mind, Reggie and Luke, Reggie, his name continued to repeat herself like if it was the banging of a drum, why was his name too familiar, Destiny started thinking back to bands she had listened, bands, her brother had listened to as well, the names of the members coming to her, she shifted one by one as if it were pages in a notebook.

"Hey, Des?" Julie called out for her, the brunette looked up at Julie, Luke and Reggie had moved away from the piano, Luke had his guitar now on his hands and Reggie had his bass over his shoulders, they were looking back at her too. "You okay?" She asked, Julie was now beside her, the keyboard was now in front of them, Destiny nodded her head and scooted to the side.

"Okay then, let's start with Stand Tall." Luke chuckled, Julie nodded her head with her smile, the notes started playing when her fingers pressed gently against it. Destiny listened to them practice, heard their voice, she bopped her head to the rhythm of it, Julie's voice matched perfectly to the instruments and to Luke's voice as well when he joined on the chorus.

Their singing came to a stop and continued to match the instruments and see how they could even make it better, Destiny's feet tap against the floor, if she knew the lyrics she was going to be bursting up in singing, the song came to an end, Destiny clapped at them, the boys gave a little bow to her. Suddenly another ghost passed through the garage doors, blonde and tall, Destiny recognized him as the band's drummer, he had a smile on his face and he radiated such happy energy.

"Oh hey Alex" Reggie greeted the blonde who hadn't noticed Destiny's presence, she was just sitting there and didn't say a word.

"Where have you been man? We need to start practicing" Luke looked between the guitar to his friend, Alex tilted his head in confusion, his eyes looking around finally dropping on Destiny.

"Hi." Destiny waved at him, caught him off guard, Alex blinked a few times, his eyes looking from her to Julie and to his friends, maybe too fast for his own liking.

"Oh, yeah, that's Destiny, the girl we talked to you about? Her mother is a medium, pretty cool huh?" Reggie pushed Alex's chest, the blonde waved her hello and turned back to look at Reggie and Alex

"Yeah? That's cool, and for what do we need to practice for?" Alex asked and at that moment the garage door flew open, Flynn with her widened smiled appeared and both hands up in the air.

"Dance news, I don't have a date, but I don't care because I'm so psyched to see you guys perform." She looked at Julie and her eyes landed on Destiny, it seemed like everyone was surprised by the new member in that area "Hi Destiny." She greeted but her attention went back to Julie when she spoke about Alex "What? The guys are here?" She huffed and smiled, waving where Destiny was seating "Hey, guys"

"Other way" Destiny and Julie said in unison, Flynn turned to wave them hello in the correct area.

"Wait, Des, you can see them?" Flynn questioned the brunette, Destiny moved a strain of her hair behind her ear and nodded her head "That's so cool and so unfair, why can you see them and I can't?"

"That's a mystery I want to resolve actually." Destiny chuckled, her explanation was just nonexistent, the reason why, was eating her inside, why could she see the boys? Who knew, but of course she wanted to find out.

"Okay, well, now that Alex has graced us with his presence, can we start working?" Luke had sat down on a couch his fingers strumming the chords of his guitar.

"Yes!" Julie answered Luke, her head back on Flynn "We're gonna rehearse, you wanna stick around?" She asked, Flynn looked down for a moment before responding to Julie.

"I'm supposed to blow up 500 balloons for the school dance, but this sounds way better." Flynn's smirk appeared again on her lips, Julie huffed in response to what her friend had just said.

"Isn't there someone at the school who can help you with that? And also are 500 balloons necessary?" Destiny was curious, maybe the number of balloons weren't that many, she wasn't much of a party organizer, Flynn nodded her head but the expression of disgust made it seem like even though they were people who did that, Flynn was the one to be in charge of everything.

"Hey, Julie," a little boy's voice was heard from outside, a young kid came walking inside passing through Alex without any problem "Remember those orbs in Dad's pictures?, I, I think they're ghosts." The little boy placed the pictures on her keyboard and took a step back "But don't worry. This room is," he turned to look around, his eyes up to the ceiling as if they were up there, but the boys were just looking at him "This room is clean. I'm not getting the ghost tingles." He turned back to look at Julie, so confident of what he had just said.

"Wrong again, little dude." Reggie said out loud, a little chuckle escaping his lips, Luke chuckled with him.

"Have no fear, if they come back, I will protect you," The comment made Destiny smile, he had to be the little brother that's for sure and it made Destiny's heart warm "Because I am the man of the house." His voice was too confident now and Julie chuckled about it.

"Isn't dad supposed to be the man of the house?" Julie crossed her arms as he asked it, her little brother looked down for a moment saying that they could be two. The ghosts looked in aw at the little Molina boy, he was too adorable and it was funny as well that he couldn't see the three ghostly boys behind him.

"According to the internet, salt burns their souls out." The little boy pulled out a plastic can of salt, the expression on the guys' faces changed from smiles to worry. "A little sprinkle will keep them from ever coming in here." Destiny wanted to jump on and say that that isn't real, but, this was getting entertaining.

The younger Molina swayed the salt first to Reggie's spot, the dark-haired bassist pulled his feet and instrument up to him letting out a gasp. The salt then made its ways to Luke's seating position, just like Reggie, he pulled out his feet and gasped. The boy aggressively swayed the salt in Alex's place, the fragments of the condiment passing through his body, the blonde screamed out in pain, his bandmates watched him with terror in their eyes, Destiny had her hand over her lips to cover up a laugh that threatened to come out.

"Oh god, I'm," Alex said in pain but stood up, smiling, relived "I'm fine, I'm fine, totally fine." the blonde passed his fingers through his hair as he looked over to his friends whose faces changed again. Julie cleared her throat, the attention of Destiny fell upon her, she noticed how there were unspoken words between Flynn and Julie.

"Oh, Carlos, you know who's hungry? Me" Flynn called out Julie's little brother, the little boy looked at her smiled "Salt me a path to the kitchen." Flynn moved her body to the side motioning the boy to be the one who walked first, the duo walked away and outside the garage door.

"Shall we try this again?" Julie asked, her head turning to look at Luke.

"Yes, please. But remind us later," Luke stood up from the couch "There's some Sunset Curve songs to show you." Destiny's attention from her fingers jumped to Luke. Sunset Curve. She recognized that name, she knows them. Reggie has to be the son of Lauren, the woman who always came to the sessions when she was a child, that name, Sunset Curve, their band. Was this a right time to jump and speak up, maybe this was a conversation she had to have with Julie first, maybe she could help her figure it out more or maybe even Destiny could help the boys figure out their unfinished business.
