@Abigail_Joanna
I won the February 2020 edition of the Red Feather Award.
1 what's one Wattpad goal?
To hopefully win the Wattys, at least once, and maybe-wishful thinking here-get published by Wattpad!
2 what inspired you to write?
So, The Maze Runner series largely inspired my writing. I started with a dialogue-riddled sad rip-off of The Scorch Trials, the second book in the series, and thought it was very original. My characters did nothing but eat, sleep, and walk through the heat of the desert. Many thanks to James Dashner, though, because those books are *awesome*, and likely are why I am a writer today.
3 who is your favorite author?
Probably Eoin Colfer or James Dashner. Colfer has amazing world-building and twists through many of his books, and they all have stayed clean and wonderfully humorous thus far.
4 what's your favorite holiday and why?
Thanksgiving, because I get to spend it with my family and it's a great excuse to spend all day baking desserts. Also, eating said desserts; that's very satisfying.
5 Are you still surprised when you get a new vote, follow or comment?
I can't say I was ever really surprised to get follows/votes/comments, but I can definitely say I am still grateful and humbled that someone thinks my work deserves any of those, and I think I'll be feeling that way as long as I continue to be a writer.
6 what's your dream vacation?
I don't really do vacations, but I suppose a four-hour drive to the nearest NASCAR track to stay the racing weekend would be fun! At this point, it's just too far of a drive, so if I go anywhere in the future for a vacation of sorts, that would probably be my number one place
7 if you could hang out with your favorite celeb for a day, who would you choose and what would you do?
I think I'd pick Brad Pitt or Robert Downey Jr., solely for the ease they seem to play the slick, charismatic character in many of their moves. I think I could learn a lot for my writing by actually being around someone like that and picking his brain. We would probably just talk on a bench, about life, playing his different roles, etc.
8 what's the best way to handle a bully?
Kind of depends which medium you're talking about here. If it's online, either block them or call them out publicly with proof. If it's in person, well, you could start carrying a gun. I think they'd leave you quite alone if they see you with a weapon.
9 what's your favorite thing about Wattpad?
No Capes, the book! It's honestly one of the big highlights of my time here, and the sequel is looking *amazing*.
10 if you could gain advice from your favorite author, who would you choose and what would you ask?
I'd probably ask James Dashner how to kill off a character and make is *so emotional*, while making sure the readers don't really hate you for it. I think that would be very helpful to me, and especially getting it from someone like him who has had great success.
11 what is a song you enjoy? Who is the artist?
Darkside by Alan Walker. I discovered him the other day, and his work is fabulous!

Lady Slave is a good read for all ages, I think. I wrote it with good plot and character development in mind, but also for it to be for all ages. There are some fight scenes, but I don't add anything like gratuitous gore, if they contain blood at all. I think a lot of people will identify with the main character's struggle to overcome what the world has branded her to be, and to carve out her own identity. She is very likeable, but also deeply flawed, and that causes her to make mistakes that get others hurt. Those are the best kind of books, I think, the ones where you can identify not only with the perfections of the characters, but also their imperfections.
