3rd place in the chicklit category of the Butterfly Awards
I've entered a lot of contests but I've never really won anything before, and honestly I was getting a little bit discouraged in my writing. Then I checked Wattpad, saw that I'd placed in the Butterfly Awards, and basically started jumping up and down and screaming in front of my entire English class. Now I'm a lot more inspired to write more because I feel like my work is actually worth something.
1 what inspired you to write?
I've pretty much always loved writing, my whole life. To me, writing is a way of taking the messed-up parts of this world and escaping from them into a place where things can be whatever I want. In the words of Thanos, "Reality is often disappointing. That is, it was. Now, reality can be whatever I want."
2 what's your favorite holiday and why?
My favorite holiday has to be Christmas. There's just something I love about that time of year, maybe because that's like the one time it's not unbearably hot, plus I have more time off of school to chill or visit family.
3 who is your favorite author?
My favorite author... I love Erin Dionne, particularly Notes From an Accidental Band Geek (the book that got me into marching band!), but my favorite author is probably Tolkien. I enjoy reading books with complex language, because I find myself adopting some of the complexity into my own writing and then I sound smart.
4 if you could hang out with your favorite celeb for a day, who would you choose and what would you do?
If I could spend a day with a celebrity, it would be Gerard Way. I'd love to sit in on a rehearsal of My Chemical Romance, or even perform with them someday. I love their music and I'd be honored to be a part of it, especially because I'm a huge music theory geek and an amateur composer/songwriter and it would be interesting to get a closer look into how they write their music.
5 what's your favorite snack?
My favorite snack is pretty much anything chocolate. I used to like all candy, but I developed an allergy to Red 40, which is in pretty much everything from M+Ms to Sour Patch Kids, so chocolate is just about all I can have.
6 what's your schedule regarding your writing?
I don't really have a schedule right now. I like to try to write the whole book before publishing any, because I'm the kind of person who gets easily distracted from a particular story, either I lose interest or I get a new idea, so I have dozens of stories on my computer that I'll probably never finish. But right now, I'm just kind of posting new chapters as I get inspiration to write them.
7 what's one Wattpad goal?
I don't really have a specific goal either, it's just nice to get my stories out there. I would love it if more people read and commented on my books, but I don't really have a specific number in mind.
8 how would you celebrate a publishing deal?
You know, if I ever got published, there's a good chance I'd pass out because of shock/happiness. I'd probably eat a lot of ice cream. However, I hope it doesn't happen for a long time, because technically I'm not supposed to have Wattpad and I don't want my parents wondering how a story I'd been forming in my head made its way to the shelves. It's a nice thought, but definitely a long-term one.
9 Are you still surprised when you get a new vote, follow or comment?
Yes. Mostly I just wonder how they found me, I guess; my corner of Wattpad is still relatively small, and I'm curious as to how they wound up on it. Mostly it's through either my books, or my comments on other books I read (I comment A LOT).
10 what's your favorite movie?
My favorite movie right now is probably the Lord of the Rings saga. I'm not a huge fan of over-romantic plots, and I have to say I'm the only one in my family who doesn't want to fast forward all the fight scenes.
11 what's a song you enjoy? Who is the artist?
Just one song? Ugh... I love My Chemical Romance, but it's hard to just pick one song, so I'm actually going to say Tchaikovsky's Sixth Symphony. I know, I have a really weird taste in music- on one hand, I'm a classical snob; on the other, I'm a Killjoy- but that's just how my weird self works.
request time
Personally I'd recommend Whispering to the Night. Technically it is book 2 in my series, so you can read A Careless Whisper first if you want, but I think it stands alone fairly well. In my opinion, Whispering to the Night is better because the characters are developed better, the writing in general is more mature, and there are actual plot lines. Plot is something I really struggle with in my writing, a lot of my earlier stories are just collections of related events that don't really do anything significant.
