Interview #19 @so1tgoes
1 what's your favorite holiday why?
I'm a huge fan of Halloween. For the entire month of October, I like to watch horror movies, and I recently moved into a new house out in the woods that's PERFECT for decorating all spooky-like!
Plus, candy.
2 are you still surprised when you gain a new vote, follower or piece of feedback?
The fact that I started the Runner series over four years ago and that it's stillbeing discovered by new readers is always surprising to me! There's nothing Ilove more than being able to bring a stranger along on Kay's adventures.
3 what's one tip you'd give a newcomer?
I always fall back on the same piece of advice when people ask: know your characters, not your story.
By that, I mean that you shouldn't be afraid to change the trajectory of your original idea based on the wants and needs of your characters. If you can understand the motivations of the people you've created, they will eventually create the story for you.
4 if you could gain advice from your favorite author, who would you choose and what would you ask?
I would love to talk to Michael Crichton (RIP), Stephen King or Kurt Vonnegut.
I would ask Michael Crichton how he could create such believable ideas about our future world, whether it's the result of painstaking research or pure imagination.
I would ask Stephen King how he finds the motivation to complete so many original works, whether he ever simply gives up or if he forces himself to keep going.
I would ask Kurt Vonnegut everything. I would want his life advice; just take in anything he could tell me.
5 what's your favorite aspect of Wattpad?
The users! My experience with Wattpad has been finding an amazingly supportive community of writers and readers. The readers of the Runner series have been encouraging and so expressive in terms of giving me feedback about the kind of emotions my stories bring out in them, which is all the motivation I need to keep writing.
6 what's your favorite song? Who's the artist?
"Lover of the Light" by Mumford and Sons
7 if you could hang out with your favorite celeb for a day, who would you choose and what would you do?
GordonRamsey. I'd want him to cook for me and share a couple drinks.
8 how would you spend a rainy day?
Has any wattpadder ever answered this question with something other than 'curled up with a good book'?
9 how would you handle a bully?
Stand up for yourself. Bullies are just sad, insecure people who take their frustrations out on other people to avoid forming their own personality. Show bullies that you're above them by living your life fully and loudly.
10what's your favorite book?
"Jurassic Park" by Michael Crichton, "The Martian" by Andy Weir, "Ready Player One" by Ernest Cline and "Robcalypse" by Daniel H Wilson
11 what's your favorite movie?
I will never be able to pick just one.
The Princess Bride, Ex Machina, Shaun of the Dead, A Knights Tale, Indiana Jones (Temple of Doom), The Mummy, Shutter Island... I'm going to think of so many more.
Request time!
If you're into action/adventure, I recommend that you try out my Runner trilogy, starting with book 1: "The Runner".
It's a story of Kay, a common thief with a knack for jumping across rooftops and the uprising she begins with the help of a handsome, rich revolutionary.
It might sound like your typical dystopian romance, but I promise that "The Runner" will provide plenty of surprising twists and turns!
